Avoid at all costs. First it took almost 2 hours to get my car. They want to charge you a $2500 deposit if you don't get their insurance.which is really expensive.
Returning the car was just as terrible. Everyone moves as fast as sloths. There are employees standing around talking instead of helping customers. I'm trying to get l catch a flight but have to wait 15 min to return a car.
Our flight was delayed so I returned the car 3 hours later than expected. Even though it was not any more days from time we picked the car up, they charged me for an extra day. I've never heard of such a thing. The person looks for scratches like a forensics expert when checking the car hoping to have any reason to take your deposit.
These guys are complete scammers. Most positive reviews are probably fake.
Honestly, the company was just fine until my last day. I have sent numerous emails requesting documents so I can settle a claim with a 3rd party insurance company. 1 month later and I still have not received anything. I have a $2,000 hold on my credit card that can't be paid until I have this information. I spent a lot making sure I had every insurance possible. All I need are pictures of the minor damage and documents I signed. Very very disappointed with the customer service.
DO NOT RENT FROM GREEN MOTION.
Their office was completely full of people waiting to pick up a car. It ended up taking well over an hour once I was at the office, over two hours if you count the time I had to wait at the airport for the shuttle. Based on how slowly they were processing people, this seems to be a common occurrence.
Even if it costs you $50 or $100 more, it will be money very well spent.
As you'll see in other reviews, this place can be great for the price or horrible. I was careful based on other reviews which made things much easier. I had good insurance through my credit card so declined all their insurance (which doesn't actually cover the entire vehicle). Be ready for the $3000 credit card hold by doing that. In terms of the car, they tried to get me to sign the damage form showing almost no scratches. I told them I wanted to inspect the car first. I'm very glad I did because I found another 50+ scratches including some big ones. I also took pictures of the entire car and then documented all scratches before signing. This made it super easy to then return the car. You can have a good experience and not be charged for repairs but give yourself at least an hour to get and drop off the car. It's annoying you have to be so paranoid with the car but seems all car rental companies do that based on reviews. Car itself was very very nice. Blind spot monitoring and easy to drive.
DO NOT USE - Worst customer service experience ever.
Currently waited an hour to pick up our rental car which was pre-booked online. Many people in same position, takes a very long time to pick up the car. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t use again.
Furthermore, on booking online it stated that ‘make and model are guaranteed’ which turned out to not be true at all. We paid for one model of Jeep but were informed they didn’t have any of those and that ‘guaranteed doesn’t mean guaranteed it means ‘similar’’. This meant we were given a less expensive option than we actually paid for.
Staff are exceptionally rude.
Don't go there - it's a total rip-off. They pretend to be cheap but they will always find something that you "broke". For us it was the windshield which was definitively broken before. The car had scratches everywhere and we took pictures of all of them, only forgot that windshield. So they made us pay for it - the exact same thing happened to the couples before and after us. Apart from that they try to talk you into expensive extra insurances for wind and ash storms - we were there in winter time so it was def. not necessary. They really try to scare you by talking about 10.000s of euros in damage. That whole old toy car was never worth that amount of money. Go to a real car rental, that one ist just a rip-off. I even think that those few positive ratings here are fake.
So, i booked fiat 500 before i landed in the airport and without did any observations related to this company.
Once i arrived. It freaked me out a bit to read about those negatives reviews but it was too late to cancel, so i decided to go for it.
So, summary:
Pick up times: on time, very nice
About car: it was good
Hospitality: very nice
Advice: what do you expect more from the cheapest price from them? Personally i paid extra 149euro for 4 nights premium insurance just to avoid any unpleasant situations since i travel for joy, not for anxiety. So. If you don't have a will to pay that much for premium insurance, please look for another company or pay attention to every single detail to your car.
Wish you all happy travels!
Wonderful experience! We arrived at 5 in the morning and really appreciated the quick shuttle to the rental building. We got a great reliable car which was so good on gas. We were able to do the golden circle on a bit more than half the tank. Everyone was friendly and gave great advice. 10/10 would do again! FYI gas is a wallet destroyer
We recently rented a jeep through this company and the whole process was smooth and we think the team at Green Motion were wonderful. We were met at the airport promptly and taken in a shuttle bus to collect our car. Bridget processed our pick up and was really lovely and helpful - lovely free hot chocolate in the office too! Our car was really great - did a thorough inspection before we took the car as there were lots of tiny scratches (these were correctly logged). When we dropped off the car my boyfriend left his phone in the car! I called the office and they immediately whizzed over to the terminal to drop it off to him. They really went above and beyond.
Be aware you need at least €2,500 available on your credit card!
I bought a full insurance cover through the broker while booking online, so I did not need any additional insurance. If you can't authorize €2,5K on your credit card then they force you to buy an additional useless insurance for €26 per day, blocking €400 on your card, and it doesn't even cover everything.
This was a total rip off of €78 for my 3 days rent.
Also, I did not enjoy quite long waiting time, and frequent interruptions during my turn.
I give 2 stars and not one because I appreciated the car was a nice Fiat Tipo running on diesel, and they have free coffee at the place.
Staff were nice and had someone to meet us at the airport which was great. Didn't have the car I ordered and claimed a Dacia Duster was an upgrade. It wasn't. It's a very cheap feeling car, nothing particularly nice or luxurious about it. The radio and USB port were intermittent and the cigarette lighter didn't work at all.
Only gets 2 stars because the car was very nice. Airport pickup was very difficult, as there is no schedule for pick ups and they did not answer their phone, so we ended up waiting for nearly an hour.
Actually renting the car was much harder than expected, as the agent refused to allow us to rent the car with a credit card in a passenger’s name and ended with the agent having me sign the rental agreement before seeing the car. When I got to the car, I noticed two large scratches on the front of the car, which I immediately reported to the rental agent, and he assured me that they were fine. Luckily, I documented these scratches.
Upon return of the car, a different agent noticed another small scratch which had not been documented (and was invisible to the untrained eye). I’m certain that it was there before I rented it, but I have no proof of this. Luckily, I had purchased their insurance, so not liable for it, but still a very frustrating experience.
Also, the car did not come with an owner’s manual, which just seems odd.
Great overall services and price but the car provided was not like the one on picture. Driving a fiat panda cross instead of a Jeep across Iceland was really tiring
Also their insurance are honest and kind of mandatory if you count driving far.
I think next time I will choose a bigger company to have more choices at the pick up.
We landed at 4:30am and the gent was really helpful, met us at the airport with other travellers, and took us back to their brand new office which was quite nice and had an awesome coffee machine. Staff there explained some details about travelling on the roads in Iceland, gave lots of info about the local weather forecasts and how to get that info. Set us up with a nearly new vehicle, a thorough inspection, and we were on our way. Beware that in Iceland, there is a lot of gravel on the roads which tends to result in rock chips, so if you don't have solid coverage through your auto insurer, take out the extra coverage.
