This was mine and my fiance's second time at this resort and we LOVED IT! This time we were there for 5 days, 4 nights!

We have both been to Cuba a number of times but Playa De Oro is our favorite resort in Cuba. The workers are so helpful and kind, entertainment is amazing, the food is excellent for Cuban standards and the beach is breathtaking!! We highly recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for an affordable get-away.

We are already planning a trip back for next year :)

Great spot if you just want a spot to get away. Literally. You are cut off from you regular forms of communication but beautiful beaches and a pool at your door step. Helps to make you relax!!!! Bbq is amazing!!!! Lots of family bonding time, a few minute drive from town, or a 15 minute bike ride. Right across from a marina.

Just went here for my first time in Cuba since I was a kid. Loved it! Most of the staff were great, really funny. Met tons of cool people on the resort and had a great time hanging out with them. The beach is beautiful, beach staff were hilarious as well. Definitely take advantage of the hop on bus if you're there for a few days. Food and drinks are good, 2 am ham and cheese from the snack bar is where it's at.

Great resort. Excellent food. Clean rooms but no hot water for shower. Beautiful beach. Staff: some really nice, others not friendly at all.

For the price it was an excellent getaway. It has its flaws but is very charming and an amazing destination. I highly recommend this as a budget option if you're an easy-going person.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The buildings are a bit shabby but the room was clean and comfortable. The beach was great! The a la carte meals were wonderful! The nights were a bit noisy when we were trying to sleep. All in all I would easily stay there again

This place is a dump ! The first room they gave us had a broken balcony door, mould on the walls, broken safe and holes in the sheets and blankets. The second room was better - and we only got a second room because we threw a fit ! The food was terrible - employees were super nice but I would never stay there again!

First and foremost, I feel I left a piece of my heart in Playa de Oro with the most warm and loving staff team you can meet. I stayed here for 4 nights and 6 days! Let me explain, first and foremost even with the misheps that transpired, and there was many, I still put 4 stars for the energy of place and people and the fun it provides.

I have a spinal condition and to be honest, their beds suck, so after 4 nights I switched to a hotel with a 5 star bed, the 5 star hotel had the worst energy and staff and visitors I and many other guests were eager to get off that resort, so lucky me I had 2 days left to use Playa De Oro and so on the day hours I would enjoy that resort and only use the 5 star one for sleep.

Ernesto my guide in hotel is the kindest man ever, if you have any complaints he will fix it immediately and help you, in fact any of the staff there go so far out of there way to try and accommodate for you that it will make all the mistakes worth it

While there I changed rooms once, my first room was not very nice, and to be honest, the rooms are outdated for sure, but their beach is amazing and again, has a great mix of people, families and more mature mid 20+ mostly people in their 30s, 40s, 50s,

The hot water stopped working for half a day and the elevator broke down for one day, but you know, I can't rave enough of how enjoyable the experience is here that it makes up for the lack of.
Food was decent, for cuba especially, all staff, ALL OF THEM are amazing, kind and feel like family by the time you leave. FAMILY FRIENDLY, ALL AGE mixes and will come back

This hotel is the works I never been, please believe what other people comment, because I didn't and I regret 200%, the only good thing about it is the beach.
I was here for 2 weeks in January 2018 and I won't go back to this hotel, the staff always expect you to tip if you don't tip you don't get water, napkins or anything that you need, but if you tip, then they try to offer you a service, which its wrong we pay a lot of money for our holidays to get this kind of services.
The beds has Bugs, every single morning I wake up with welts.

I think this hotel need to hire a good management and fire most of the employees that don't care about their customer and only your money, if you decide to go here bring a lot of money for TIPS so hopefully you get a better service.

front desk told me that we expect to much for what we pay and the person that listen to your issues told me that if I want a better service to go to a 5 star hotel, but she is wrong I been in Cuba 6 times an the other hotel is the same start as this one and its 200% better.

I hope my review will help you and you don't made my mistake, if you don't believe you will regret.

Rooms are very bad. Food terrible. Staff, for the most part not attentive and unfriendly. A few staff are okay but the vast majority are unfriendly. Look, you get what you pay for

Horrible experience! The hotel is very dirty and its not the place where you would like to spend your vacation.
Our room smelled really bad, lots of bugs everywhere.
The bed had some blood stains, the bath didn’t work we couldn’t even take a shower. After 2 days spending in this horrible nightmare we demented to move to another hotel.
Regarding the food there is NOTHING to eat at all!!!
The pictures that the hotel posted online and the reality is completely different.
Save your money and time and don’t ever book vacation at this hotel.

I rally like this resort. I have visited twice (November 2016 and 2017). Friendly staff, a clean resort, amazing beach, and decent food for an all-inclusive. The coffee bar will change your view on all-inclusives!

Most of the staff were friendly. They kept the rooms clean. We had trouble with the air con and door lock in our first room and it took over half of our stay to get a room that was cool enough to sleep in. There was a mixup with our a la carte reservations. The excursions were great and the pool was awesome. I enjoyed the food. Honestly, if we had gotten the room we moved to when we first arrived, this would be a 4-star. The resort is aging and needs some TLC, otherwise it was pretty nice.

    11 September 2017

    Duration: Sep. 2 to 9th (7 days), 2017

    The Food:
We got food poisoning after eating at the Italian restaurant. The food in general are relatively poor, compare to the other resorts in Varadero. A lot of its food taste processed and not fresh. Plus most of the food are either under cooked or over cooked.
There're only a few dishes that are relatively eatable for breakfast and lunch. Dinner has a little bit of more options, with fresher and better ingredients.

    The Restaurants:
There are three restaurants: Italian - by the pool and outside. Cuban - by the beach and outside. International - by the buffet and inside. We get to choose two out of three. After the episode with the Italian, we didn't go to the Cuban one.

    The Beach:
The beach is just like any other resort's to the east of it. Only a couple of resorts to the west have worse beaches. So you are not losing out on beach if you go to another resort. Another thing is the "beach restaurant" is actually a bit of a walk away from the beach.

    The Facility/Cleanness:
Like any other resorts in Varadero, the building is outdated. But while we're there, a big section of the 2nd floor in building one is closed and under renovation. And the ceiling of the 1st floor in the building one is leaking (what looks like) water.
The pool is cleaned every evening. The facilities in general are kept relatively clean. But some people we met in the resort say they saw fleas in the lobby - I never did though.

    The Rooms:
Room 2110, looking over the parking lot. The AC was blasting all day without any way of adjusting the temperature.
So next day we're able to change the room without any issues. Madaya (not sure about the spelling) was so helpful, and even gave us a chance to check out the room, making sure we like it before we take it. She even sent technicians to fixed the TV once my friend pointed out it doesn't work, even though we never used it after the move.
The new room, #2036, is very close to the beach, I'm supper happy about that. And we're able to turn off the AC using the control panel behind the front door.

    The Services:
The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is the superb services. At the front desk, it's Madaya you want to help with anything! Can't say how much we appreciate her. We lost our keys twice, and she gave us the keys without any questions or gives us any looks.
Even without giving tips everyday, we still got good services at the buffets, and beach restaurant.
Also a big thank you to Wilfredo for serving us with singing and so much care! and to Chris (Christian) for making us feel like home in Varadero Cuba!

Tip: Make sure to find out when your room is cleaned on the first day, and leave it everyday during that time, so it can be cleaned! Ask for additional things directly from the cleaning staff. You will never get anything (clean towels, toilet papers, etc.) by asking at the front desk after the cleaning time!

    Resort Doctor:
I hurt my finger on the beach on the 3rd day. She didn't give helpful advise at all, pretty useless.
The consultation (which is just talking to her) cost $25 Peso ($33CAD), the three little antibiotic pills are $30 Peso.

    The Animation Team:
Awesome! Especially Chris, a great dancing teacher! The activities move from the beach to the pool in the afternoon. Definitely recommend to join if you are into that.

    The booking/travel agency:
HOLA SUN. A word of advice, they don’t have a representative desk in the resort, she comes to each resort in the morning, so you really have to go by the lobby to wait for her.

    The Flight:
Cabana Air is the flight company for Hola Sun. They're a small company. Their planes are very dated – likely second hand from China. The service during the flight is poor - none of the flight attendants even gave a smile. I’ll not fly with them again.

Tip: They’ll “not” let you board the flight if you make a mistake on your visa card, by saying you need to purchase a new one from them for $20, cash, or at the boarder they might ask you to pay $75 for a new one.

Fairly clean, and well maintained. The food offerings are a little lacklustre and repetitive, but that's to be expected in a Cuban hotel.

The staff were fun, friendly, and engaging. Due to one of our parties' room being inadequate we were upgraded to a suite, which was fantastic.

The beach is great, and the facility as a whole is well-laid out and made for a good vacation.

We had a week long family vacation from April 9th to 17th.
Positives: entertainment was good, including the entertainment staff.particularly Hebert and Ally.
Food was better than expected. I didn't mind it at all.
Negatives: Lack of clean pool towels, the resort need plenty of renovations. Most staff are not very hospitable. Some did go over and above, most did not.
Be aware this hotel has bed bugs.
We are spending a lot of time ensuring we do not bring this into our homes. This put a huge damper on our trip. One family member has bites all over their body. Very itchy and uncomfortable.
Cuba is not for me I realize. I'll stick to Mexico in the future.

Went there with my girlfriend 1 year ago, the motto for our trip was "iss broken"
Everything was broken, including the railing on the 3rd floor of our suite.
I happened to catch as it tore off the wall from my leaning on it.
    (pictures below)
Needless to say they "upgraded" us to one of the nicest room on the 4th where i instantly went to check the rail which was broken as well.

Basically if you like broken things you should go to Playa De Crapo

My husband and I enjoyed visiting Cuba. This hotel was the low point. It was plain awful. Staff are not friendly at all with the exception of one or two gems. If you want any help with anything be prepared to tip. Then they might notice you. Otherwise usually downright rude. Hands out everywhere for every last thing.

The rooms are disgusting. The first night they put us in a room that reeked of mould and had bugs. We moved the second day to a cleaner room.

While the alcohol seems to be free flowing you have to pay for water. One bottle is complimentary. No coffee makers in the room.

Unsanitary cook staff and prep. On the barbecue at the beach, I watched a cool use the same knife to chop raw chicken then cut cooked meat with the same knife. In the main hall, cook staff chewing nails and coughing then serving without hand washing.

Hotel is in bad disrepair. Crumbling walkways and broken lights everywhere. We could feel the bed springs through our threadbare mattress.

Overall, awful. Just awful. Don't go.

The one and only high point was the beach but varadero is lined with gorgeous beaches.

This Hotel is probably one the best I have found and the staff is really amazing. I found really good that even top management is involved to make customer happy no matter what. Also the location is great and the beach is amazing. The service provided is really high if we take into account the cost.
