4 stars based on great location compared to price. Room was small and dingey but adequate. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Stayed at the hotel on Oct 28,2017. When we arrived one of the customer service attendants was helping another couple. The other attendant looked at us and ignored us totally. We were waiting for over 10 min to check in, when another couple came in and the female attendant immediately helped them, bypassed us all together. The room smelt like urine, and the toilet seat was broken. Called for another room, female attendant was not very happy we wanted another room. Got another one, though it had mould all around the shower, the room smelt musty, and all you saw out of the window was scaffolding, not much to see at all. There is no elevator, we saw two seniors trying to lug their luggage up to the 3rd floor with no help from either attendant!! You would think with no elevator they would book seniors on the first floor!! They do not know their job description at all. The curtains in the building look like they haven't been washed in years. We do NOT recommend this place at all, dirty, smelly, broken toilets, mouldy showers, rude attendants, no thanks.

For the price in such a good location, I wasn't expecting much. The room was small and dark. The view was of a very close building and windows with scaffolding around our window. The room was clean enough with spartan amenities. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Overall, the hotel is worn around the edges but the price was certainly right.

Nice location close to English bay and Stanley park, kind staff day and night, room was clean, and spacious. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommend this place. I was absolutely satisfied with the place during my stay.

Place looks old and kinda unappealing from the outside. Never judge a book by its cover. Once your inside the entire atmosphere is different. Beautiful big rooms for a very good price. Very friendly staff as well. 20 minute walk from Rogers arena/ BC place. Highly reccomend

Barclay''s location cannot be faulted as it nestles right in with the night life and day life, and is only a short walk to the various attractions Vancouver offers. Step outside and you have a large Safeway, bars, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and boutiques all vying for your attention. I found the staff very friendly and super helpful. Ready to answer questions, and also allowed me to leave my bags there all day on checkout day. I would be able to give this place 5 stars, but the room was complicated in its layout and was a bit of an unwanted challenge after 24 hours of travel. It wasn't especially clean, but wasn't dirty or horrible. It just lacked that finish that could have given it 5 stars. Nothing to complain about in essence, so I can fully recommend a stay here as it is exceptional value for money when compared to the other local accommodation - plus the WiFi worked well.

NOT an accessible hotel. So many stairs. But the rooms are spacious and clean with decent wifi. There is also a nearby parking lot (behind the Landmark hotel) that let's you park all day/night for a price. There are a million restaurants and essential stores, not to mention sightseeing, nearby. Overall a great hotel, however I would recommend staying outside the city (maybe North Vancouver) for visitors, due to parking difficulties and downtown traffic.

Older hotel. Room was clean but there was no air conditioning on the floor I was on. Room got way too hot to be able to sleep. Hot water for the shower took a very long time to heat up, so had mostly a cold shower. Hotel prices in downtown Vancouver are outrageous during the summer so would stay here again due to reasonable price but would ask to be on a lower level floor

I have been visiting this hotel since 1989. The price is reasonable and the staff are courteous and very helpful. The rooms are comfortable with some looking like a historical European guest room.
The Den; a pub below is usually frequented by regulars. But those who are outsiders are made to feel welcome.
The room rate of reasonsable and returning guests get a discount on their second visit.
I strongly recommend this place as it is convenient and one would feel at home.

I have been returning to the Barclay Hotel since 1989 because of the friendly staff and the reasonable rates. Moreover. One would feel they are more like in a nostalgic place than a very contemporary one. It is multicultural and if you are a regular customer; it has its rewards.

Before we get started, I like quirky hotels, especially old quirky hotels. The good first. The rooms are clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. Not necessarily able to solve problems but they go out of their way to try. The bad this hotel is ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCESSIBLE in any way shape or form. In order to get into the hotel you have a flight of marble steps (5 ft?) with minimal brass railing. I almost killed myself getting up them. The staff was regretful but unable to indicate an accessible entrance. They did however ensure I was on the ground floor. The rest of the floors are stairs only (no elevator). As for the hotel itself, it looks like no one has put money into the hotel for at least 30 years. The doors have domestic locks (not even the minimal privacy ensuring flip locks) and the first room I was in the door didn't even close properly. While I was there they indicated that the rooms were being upgraded. Apparently this meant replacing the (cheap) wooden doors with metal and changing the locks. The rooms are beat up and the paint looks like something out of the 80s. The walls are paper thin and the noise levels high. Hot water is in short supply. I never did get hot water to the sink. In short, this is a hotel that once might have been 3 to 4 star, had aspirations of getting back there but has settled into slipping into 2 star. Don't pick this if you expect to spend any time in your hotel room.

Good location, situated on one of the main roads Robson. No parking out front, so sometimes taxis might have to drop you off a bit away, depending on traffic and amount of cars around. Room size good, large enough to have people over. The bathroom light was in effective, felt like I was showering in low light. Lots of restaurants nearby, which made it easy to find places to eat for dinner.

We pretty much cycle through 3 hotels in Vancouver and the Barclay makes the list. Always friendly, always affordable, always clean, and always upgrading us! Great place so long as you aren't looking for all the frills - if you want somewhere warm and clean to sleep this is the place. Don't expect crazy entertainment or freebies, the place isn't showy but it's worth the $.
