Whaling station steakhouse is very average, at least what I ordered.
I had the French onion soup, decent, but not great. I had the fillet medallions from the bar menu, they were average, not flavorful and a bit overdone.
The bar menu prices are fine, average casual restaurant.
The saving grace is the service, which was excellent, servers are very friendly and helpful recommending dishes, and definitely the marinated olives at the bar are excellent. I would have been fine having several beers and olives.
Overall average restaurant, first time here, not necessarily thinking of visiting again.

Dined here numerous times and every time meat is undercooked. I always ask for medium rare and receive rare! That being said, the meat quality is good. But still, I want medium rare, not rare.
Also, last night I asked for the beef wellington medium rare; when I cut into it, it was rare.
I was told that I would get another one medium rare, but it would take a while.
15 minutes later I received the same piece of meat (that I had cut in half) - it had been scooped out of the pastry shell and thrown in the pan a little longer.

One of the best Steak houses around.Excellent service and the food was AMAZING!!! scratch that PERFECT!!! My husband and I will be looking forward to going back very soon.

Actually 4.5. Wonderful experience. Prawn cocktail, sand dabs with beurre Blanc. Waiter, Paul, dispensed great tips on menu. Amazing attention to detail without being pretentious. Next time one of the great steaks. Strongly recommend.

I was torn between 1 and 2 stars. The food was actually pretty good. Not great mind you. Just pretty good. Now, the service. SUCKED! I asked for a scotch list. The waiter responded with, what would you like we have it all. I said great, I will have Glenlivet Nadurra on the rocks. Response, oh, we don't have that. Same thing with Talisker. And Balvenie. Anyway, it continued downhill from there. Desert comes around, and he brings the desert menu. Guess whats on it, the scotch list. So this could've been a different outcome with a half ounce of effort.

Had an amazing meal here and equally amazing service from Jum. When he heard we planned on bringing our bones home to the dogs he even grabbed a few more from the kitchen for us.

I'll be back next time I'm in town.. best steakhouse in Monterey.

Always amazing.. fantastic atmosphere. Dress code is wide variety, everything from tuxedos to jeans. Great food. Great bar. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant

Better tell them if you don't want onions. They even put it in the caprese salad, which is rather bland. My wine glass had a chip. Steak was fair only.

Just off Cannery Row in Monterey. One of the best steak restaurants around. Service outstanding. They bring the steaks to your table & explain each type so you can choose your own. If you are on a budget, you will want to save up but it is well worth it. Has a full bar. Nice quiet atmosphere where you can enjoy each other's conversation.
