We keep coming back to this place with our friends and baby daughter. Food is delicious and people are very welcoming and friendly. We love sharing 8-10 plates and a paella. Usually we save a big appetite for this place and ask for extra bread to mop all the plates up ;) We usually paid around $30 (or $40 with one or two drinks) per people for great food, and were much more satisfied compared to our other experiences with slightly more costly restaurants.
NO STARS!!! (But I have to rate it in order to post the review)
I want to start off by saying that I very rarely post reviews especially if they are bad because every place can have an off night. But in this case, almost 3 months later, I am still dealing with the issue caused by the wait staff at Mundaka because my credit card company is still investigating my claim. Honestly, If it would have only been bad service I still wouldn't have bothered writing this, but the food that did make it to our table was also terrible. Some dishes were too salty and others too bland. So, not sure if the lack of staff contributed to a combination of issues that night but I think others should be aware.
I was traveling with my family and decided to go to Mundaka for dinner. When we arrived it took about 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. When we were finally seated, we ordered right away because we had a 4 year old with us that was VERY hungry. We asked that his order come out as soon as it was done because of this.
Both my brother and I asked the "waiter" (because I think he was really the bartender) if he was going to remember the order because he didn't right anything down. "Oh yes, of course" was his response. So what do you think happened? He forgot almost half of the order and what did come out was cold and took over 20 minutes. The worse part of it was that the food meant for the 4 year old never came out. That's when we decided to get the check for what came out and leave. When the check came it had items on it that were never served to us so I got up and asked for the manager. Another waiter told me that the manager wasn't in, that they had someone call in last minute and that his house had burned down and he didn't need this crap. So he snatched the bill out of my hand and told me not to bother paying. We had a few words and I left.
2 days later the charge appeared on my card. I called the restaurant and spoke with the Manager about the incident. He confirmed that he would credit my account because of the inconvenience but never did.
Fun place for tapas. Really tasty food and great atmosphere.
Get the Duck, the Almond stuffed Dates, and the Fried Chic Peas; this is my go-to trifecta of awesome food the past few times I ate at Mundaka. A favorite of mine for dining in Carmel by the Sea. One of those places you'd like to keep secret but is too good not to tell people about.
Been there to eat at launch, save yourself 100 dollars or more if you want to eat a proper meal. Everything is just way overpriced for regular food.
Anyway the patio is nice when It's sunny.
One of my favorite spots in Carmel! Great food, small and large plates. Homemade cocktails and Sangria. Music and awesome movie alwys going on the protector.
