Dropped my 5 1/2 month kitten off for a spay. They wanted my number so that they can update me on her condition after the surgery and I never got a call. Also concerning was the fact that all my paperwork that I got from them had the wrong birth date and said she was 4 years old. Upon seeing this after her surgery I sent an email telling them to update her records with the correct information and never did get a reply email. Do not even bother paying $10 for an e collar. It’s a waste of $$ and falls off within seconds. They had gauze on it which I was supposed to tie around the cats neck. Did not work and not exactly safe.i ended up not being able to use it. Wish I would have known that beforehand because I would not have purchased it. My husband and son picked up the kitten after surgery and the woman was busy and gave my husband a piece of paper and said to read it about the post op info. I would think you would have went over it. On a positive note, my kitten is doing well after her surgery. I could not be happier which is the most important aspect of the whole experience.

My mother has been wanting a kitten for a long time, so I decided I would I take her to this shelter to pick out a kitten. Well, we saw this cute kitten online about an hour prior to going to the shelter. When we got to the shelter, we found the kitten she wanted and I immediately went to the desk to ask to adopt her. I really wanted to be sure that we could adopt her before anyone else. So the lady at the desk told us she didn't know anything about it and needed to wait for someone else. So she just sat there and waited. I waited so long there with my mother for someone to help us get this kitten before she was gone. Nobody helped us they were all too busy or walked right by us. Finally I started to get mad and said I wanted to adopt this kitten. So they said ok and that she was still available and I needed to wait a few minutes while they fill out paperwork for an adoption currently taking place. So I said ok and waited patiently for a few minutes. Well everyone walked away and left me and my mother standing there for a while. I finally saw them put the kitten in the box and give it to someone else and I realized someone else after me had adopted her. Meanwhile I was waiting and waiting to adopt this kitten my mother wanted. Nobody said anything to us and left us stand there while allowing someone else that came in after us to adopt her. Needless to say, we were very angry and upset and left empty handed.

The woman at the help desk was confrontational & verbally combative. She repeated herself redundantly in spite of the acknowledged directive. My dog wasn't feeling well, & her primary veterinarian's office was closed.
My dog wasn't treated here. I left & found a more compassionate facility. Thankfully, my dog was fine :).response / report this review -

Highly recommended. We adopted a lovely kitten a few years ago without any issues. Because she’s technically one of theirs, we get discounts on all of her wellness visits. Veterinary staff are kind, courteous and genuinely love animals.

I have not been to this place but REFUSE to give them anything but a 1 star. They are a high kill shelter and kill animals FOR NO REASON. They might "save" animals but I have heard their conditions are horrible and they don't take good care of the animals! Please please do your research before you give an animal to a shelter, please never surrender your pet for stupid reasons. Most things can be fixed with time and love! I beg you people don't breed! Get your babies spayed and neutered. All this killing has to stop

Very nice. Animal are well tended to. Very understaffed but they do well with what they have to work with. Everyone was very nice and very helpful. We are all so in love with our new little family member, Loki that we returned and got him a playmate - Jack

They are just there to make money. When I surrendered my dog Rocky the girl Barbra said I could reclaim him for 25.00 dollars. Then when I went back to reclaim him this girl said it would be 50.00 dollars plus other fees. Then came back after talking to someone said I would now have to wait and adopt him as if I never owned him. They never asked me if he was up date on any of his shots but gave him shots any way. Please be aware of this place. Do not take your pets there and do not adopt from there. Rating is negative 1000

The staff is amazing and the clinic is great. Our schnauzer mix rescue pup loves going to the clinic here. He is way less anxious and interacts with staff and other pups in a relaxed way. The pricing is affordable and the care level is very good.

This place is incredible. If you don't have enough food for your cat or dog, once a month they give out free food if you call in advance. They help you with whatever they can..

If I could give them negative stars I would. I took my a Brown tabby cat named Leo there to surrender him due to him scratching my son. I learned after that he wasn't trying to harm my son he was playing. So I tried to call them and even emailed them about getting him back. I am so heartbroken about giving him up and was crying the whole time I didn't have him. The lady didn't even try to help us at all with teaching Leo to not scratch. On their website it says that they aim to find alternatives to surrendering and that they'll help anyway they could (I found this out after the fact). I called them about 20 times and was sent to voicemail every time. When I finically got a call back I was told that he was already adopted. I am heartbroken. If the family that has adopted Leo ever sees this he is a loving cat and I hope you give him the best home. I really do love him.

We adopted a cat here about two months ago. After discovering that he had some seemingly irreversible behavioral issues, we decided that we might not be the ones who could best care for him. We took him back to the humane society and upon doing so we signed a reclaim form, stating that if he was deemed unadoptable we would consider taking him back.
One month later, we get a call saying that he will be euthanized in 24 hours if we don't pick him up. They tried to say that he was in very poor health. It turns out, all that was wrong was that he had a few episodes of stress-induced vomiting and he was put on a medicated food to correct it. They gave us NO other reason. And we were told by multiple staff members that he was in good health after being switched to the new food.
We were FURIOUS to hear that during the entire month he was back there, they didn't even attempt to adopt him out to a new home. We took him back home with us today to save him from being killed. We read over his medical records of while he was there over the past month, and over one week ago there's a note that says "Okay to be available." Yet they didn't ever show him to anyone, and instead pressured us into taking him back by threatening to eauthanize him.
This place is great if you're looking to save the life of an animal, but it just goes to show how disposable these animals' lives are even to a "humane" establishment.
AND THE ICING ON THE CAKE:
There was a reclaim fee for saving him from being killed, which they waived for us because we called them out on their bullshit. I am disgusted.response / report this review -

If you're after a dog or cat to rescue, Wpa Humane Society is a great place to adopt a rescue animal.
They have dogs, cats, and even some "exotics" such as birds, snakes, etc. depending on when you go. The process to adopt is involved, too much in my opinion, but I understand from their point of view that they just want to make sure the animal is going to a good and forever home.
Clinics and vet services, on the other hand, need an awful lot of work. Time spent waiting on these varies from bad to downright ridiculous. Case in point.the low cost vaccination clinic held yesterday had an average wait time of 2 hours, with some people waiting up to 4 hours. That is simply just bad scheduling and execution. There's absolutely no excuse for that kind of wait time during a clinic. Should be more of an assembly line, and with the experience that wpahs has, you'd think it would be. This fact alone gives them a huge ding and a two star loss on the rating.
**In fairness, Western PA Humane Society and Animal Friends of Western PA recently merged. Don't know if the trouble is due to that or not.**
So all in all, friendly staff, animals well kept, but very and clinic services need a lot of work.response / report this review -

The staff was okay while we were looking for a dog. We adopted Archer on Saturday Feb. 25, 2017 and have fell completely in love with him. We are so happy that we adopted him. However the first night he had worms and he kept throwing up. Clinic didn't really give us any answers and told us to get him looked at somewhere else. I'm disappointed in how they handled the situation and didn't give us much information.
