Really enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. Great location, and nice touch w/ breakfast tray served in the room. Our room was cozy and the fireplace was an added plus.
Once we arrived for check-in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting welcome by the proprietors. The room was so quaint with a private gate and courtyard leading up to it.
Once we got settled in, we headed back to the office for dinner recommendations. They were very thorough in explaining our options for dinner/drinks. Would definitely stay again and recommend for anyone looking for a one-on-one experience.
We've stayed here a couple of times and really enjoy it. It's a great location and the rooms are lovely. The complimentary breakfast is also top notch and there's wine and cheese every evening by the fire pit.
Adorable and high quality In. The staff was very friendly even help make reservations for us, the room was fabulous with a huge bathroom and great breakfaet. Location perfect and the complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon the final touch. Would love to come back.
Excellent b&b situated very close to the centre of Carmel-by-the-sea. Randall is super friendly who greeted us on arrival as are the rest of the staff. Breakfast is served to the room which is a lovely touch. A welcoming fire pit is lit every cool evening and wine &cheese is served every afternoon from 4pm. I can recommend the red. We requested room 6 which is the best. Bright room with a huge new television and a fire
What a gem! While many other lodges and inns in Carmel by the Sea get away with descriptions of "quaint" and "charming" to offset the old furniture, pealed paint and general lack of upkeep - you will not find evidence of any of that here at Vagabond House Inn. Beautiful cozy rooms with fresh linens, furniture and paint.
Most rooms are very comfortable in their decor style - with warm colored carpets, fresh paintings, comfy leather chairs and warm lighting. Some rooms have a slightly more modern feel; subtly "cool" with an excellent balance of the use of wood with black, grey and white decor - for the more urban hipster crowd. We tend to prefer the less modern rooms. What's helpful is that you can chose the room you want specifically through their site.
Their beds are sumptuous, as is the breakfast which is served on a tray right to your door and made to order! Fresh eggs, fruit and delicious warm croissants along with tea or coffee. Add in cereal and yogurt, and it's one amazing way to start your day. But you may never want to leave your room, while sitting next to the fireplace (most rooms) tucked under a throw in your provided bathrobes.
At night you are serenaded to sleep with their courtyard waterfall, and without road noise or loud guests. You have a chance to socialize beforehand with the always interesting guests this inn attracts through their complimentary wine and cheese. They've recently replaced an unhealthy tree in their courtyard with a gorgeous custom stone gas fire pit. It's a wonderful new place to site and chat with others, or just to enjoy a glass of wine in the eve before heading out to many of the amazing restaurants. Most of which accept dogs, as does the Vagabond Inn House (small fee).
We've stayed here 8 times in 5 years and have loved every bit of our experience! Right down to the engaging but non invasive hospitality of Thomas and Randall, the non-owner innkeepers, who really know how to take special care of their guests.
Need I say more? Maybe I shouldn't have said a thing! Book in advance, this Inn is a favorite at Carmel by the Sea!
Really cute and great place to stay at. We also got a massage and it was amazing!
The great Coach Vince Lombardi is quoted as saying "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence." Thomas Rogers, the delightful and supremely talented manager of this property, has for all intents and purposes achieved a degree of quality which if not perfection is indistinguishable from it. People who know me, know that I don't give false compliments. To come to this bastion of excellence, in a world of increasing mediocrity, is an uplifting experience. Bravo, Mr. Rogers.
