Mixed feelings. It's a lovely hotel with a lot of character. Staff is mostly friendly and helpful. Our first room was awful - dingy and worn out. They were eventually able to move us to an updated room. It smelled like cigarette smoke, but was better. The hotel doesn't have great insulation, so all the noises carry. Both nights I had to call down after midnight because of the noise down the hall - drunken wedding party. Banging doors open and close, yelling, music, and more. You will hear every noise, so don't stay here if you need silence to sleep. One last note - shower early. Ice cold water if you wait!
Historic hotel by Lake Michigan. It isn't lake front so the odds of getting a lake view room are fairly minimal. However it is a building on the historic registry. Architecture is beautiful reminiscent 1930s 1940s. Rooms are nice, furniture modern kitchens formica countertops above-average appliances everything you need for. Beats the hell out of Holiday Inns and Extended Stay Americas. For a country boy like me I absolutely loved it.
If there were half star increments, I'd give this 3.5 stars rather than 4. Nice place, we liked the historic vibe of both the hotel and area. Nice views of the city and Lake Michigan. Seems like a quiet area at any time of the day while still being safe. We stayed in a "deluxe suite" and were happy with it, particularly with its size. The room itself gives a historic feeling, particularly the doors. Do not expect the latest and greatest of everything; this isn't a complaint, it's just a fact. Furniture is fairly basic and has a "lived in" feel to it (a plus for us). Feels more like you're staying at someone's condo vs. the generic hotel room you're probably used to. Washroom was basic, but clean and functional. Was impressed with the massive flat-screen TV and upgraded cable package.
Friendly staff. Free WiFi. Fancy foyer being remodeled. Soft pillows. Comfy bed. Weird bathroom sink faucets and smell. Nice neighbors on helping me open the fancy door. To open the door to room, pull door to you, insert key, and twist like you're locking the door.
What would have been a very nice stay was ruined by very poor customer service. My wife called the morning of our stay to inquire about parking. Staff assured my wife parking would be available. Upon arrival a dismissive staff member told her she was too late and the lot was full. He offered her no suggestions on what to do. When she asked he said park on the street and try again early in the morning. That’s exactly what we want to do get up early on our weekend away. Then he told my wife there was a ramp 5 blocks away and offered no directions. You can have the best hotel in the world but if your customer service isn’t there what’s the point? You have better options close by then this place.
We where contacted by management and they took care of us.
Happy hour drinks & menu made me so happy!
Very nice two nights in the Knickerbocker. Walking distance to most of what I wanted to do in the city. Will stay again next time I'm in Milwaukee.
Great location and very nice interior -- rooms are a little plain but have nice kitchenettes. Really a great place to stay for the price!
The Knickerbocker is a very cool building with some interesting architecture. The rooms can feel dated but they do advertise that and truthfully it's part of the charm. My room was very quite which is a plus. The location is perfect if you like to walk to great parks, Brady St. & downtown.
Stopped at the Knick for lunch during downtown dinning week. Our server was both polite and attentive. The food was all consistently well prepared and flavors appropriately balanced.
Historic hotel that has recently made renovations that bring it close to a modern hotel. Great for the travellers that prefer not to continually eat out or get take-out. Each unit has a kitchenette with kitchen items. Two fine grocery stores are within walking distance.
This is one of my favorite hotels. 1st time was from July 3-4 and even though we experienced a few issues, it was still very relaxing and comfortable.
This was a nice and surprising little hotel near the late. Great location and friendly hotel staff.
Great place for dinner. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious. Good size portions, cooked to order, and served quickly. Parking is on the streets around the area, but they do offer valet parking.
