Unique and inviting! If you are looking for privacy, upscale rooms, in-room kitchens looking further. It's also right next to downtown so it makes for real easy access to get around the city

I've never left a hotel the same night I checked in until now. I don't know what hotel the pictures are from, but nothing I saw looked like these updated remodeled photos on Google. The room was hideously dirty, every corner looked as though decades of dirt/dust/grime, and multiple light bulbs were burnt out. One of the door locks was broken. There was peeling wallpaper, holes in the walls, a "kitchenette" matching my grandmother's from 1960 was missing a stove. The white sink was warn through to the black. All of this is carefully hidden by the angles of photos on their website.
The non-smoking hallways and lobby smell like cigarettes and pot, which makes sense as we were informed it was "cannabis friendly". This bed and breakfast doesn't serve breakfast, or have parking. The spaces out front are metered, but free late at night, you just have to be up by 9am to move the car or find parking down the street in the neighborhood.
Our window view consisted of a gas station and sidewalk of wandering panhandelers. There's a reason they lock the front door 24/7.
Finally, the windows are paper thin. I checked multiple times to make sure they weren't open because the sound of every passing car was so loud. And since the gas station is across the street, cars pull in and out all night long. Colfax (hwy 40) is, of course, one of the busiest streets in the city running all the way through Denver.
By 2 AM with no sleep from the road noise and shouting from the sidewalk, we packed our things and left. We tried to cancel the remaining days of our stay, but they don't offer refunds. Wonder why?
Denver has a LOT better to offer for the price. Check out Castle Marne near by instead if you want to be transported into a true 1890s style B&B.response / report this review -

Such a cute a cozy place! The room was very nice and spacious with it's own kitchen. Staff is friendly and super helpful! The beds we're very comfortable and the decor was Victorian and adorable.

So cute and Victorian. Staff answers the locked door after you buzz. It might take a minute for them to answer because there's not much for the front desk/caretaker to do, so they probably come from their apt. It was super quiet, but like old places, floors creak and groan. Nice little kitchen surprised me and made it really homey. Would definitely recommend!

Adorable rooms, with very attentive staff. Cute little courtyard on the side with lots of sitting space, surrounded by large trees. Very comfy beds. Our room had a full kitchenette, but I'm not for sure if all the rooms have them. Pet friendly!

The staff was friendly. They seemed a bit understaffed, but friendly nevertheless. Were having some technical difficulties when we first arrived, which caused some unorganized chaos. The three staff I talked to were accommodating and kind despite this.
The location is on Colfax across from a bus stop, which is a pretty sketchy area. A bunch of shady people hang out around there at night, and throughout the entire night we heard people yelling and cars/motorcycles revving engines. Also not a super safe road to walk down at night, so I would advise to take a Lyft or drive your own car if you want to go somewhere.
Smelled pot pretty much throughout the night. Not sure if it was coming through the window or if one of our room neighbors was smoking a blunt. We are in Denver, at a 2-star hotel, so I didn't expect much else. Just something to be cognizant of if you stay here.
The drapes are translucent and let light from the street in, so perfect darkness is not achieved. Bring a night mask if this bothers you. We stayed in a king bed room & the bed was really comfy. You can definitely tell this place was built in 1896. Shower was temperamental, floor creaked with each step, walls are paper thin, but otherwise it is decent.
They also don't do B&B anymore, as I was disappointed to find. Instead you get a coupon for a free egg & toast breakfast at Pete's Cafe, which is a block down the street. Not a bad deal. However, if you stay on the weekend, go early to get breakfast or be prepared to wait. We went around 11am and there was a line out the door waiting to just get their names in.
Overall, my experience was average. The room itself didn't quite meet my expectations. It was cool to stay in a small Victorian-style hotel, but I probably won't stay here again.response / report this review -

The Holiday Chalet is a solid place to stay. The rooms are comfortable and large. However there's not much soundproofing as we heard people walking around on the floor above us. Overall I'd recommend this place.

This is a GREAT location if you are in the Denver "Proper" Area. Parking is a bit tough, but they have it. Breakfast is not served in the location, but rather at a GREAT GREAT GREAT place down the street. Which covered the meal with the Room Rate we got. Sort of odd, but I'll do it again!!!
I'll be back here. It is a Victorian "OLD" Building, with quaint and loveable features.response / report this review -

We had stayed there 2 years prior for a week and had a great time. Thus time we stayed there for only a few days, but the experience was lacking. They're under new management, and didn't tell us when we booked in March that breakfast would actually be off site. It was a very short walk, but one of the original things we loved was the homemade breakfast. The cookies left for guests were store bought and obviously so. They had renovaters there and a few things appeared left half finished. One of them actually followed me back to my room and asked if I had any weed. Really? 2 years ago it would have gotten 5 stars. Now 3 is generous if my opinion.

I would give less than one star if it was allowed.Our daughter reserved a room four months in advance and was told the day before the event that her room had been given to another party. She had even called in the interim to check and confirm the reservation, as well as having received a confirmation of the dates from the bed and breakfast as well as Travelocity. This is completely uncalled for. She and her friend went down to the actual location and the front desk clerk refused to reason with them. I suggest if you book in advance and are coming from anywhere other than the Denver area, don't count on having a room when you arrive.

Here's the real deal on the Holiday Chalet. The rooms are all different, so you either have to know which room you want or just take your chance and inspect your room before you accept it. I stayed there for a week around April 23-30 this year (420 week), and by luck I got a very nice room. The exterior is fun and the halls are really cutely decorated (my daughter fell in love with all the old pictures from earlier times, and the needlepoint and bric-a-brac on the walls. It's not the nicest, best maintained or most well-run hotel in town, but if you get a good room and aren't expecting the Ritz-Carlton you may find that you fall in love with the place yourself. And the staff are great, especially Carter, although Chloe was very nice and helpful too.
My first room (number 4, I think it was - the closest to the front door but on the side away from Colfax Street) was pretty great, with nice kitchen, bathroom, bureau, dining nook, and a second bedroom. I spent several very comfortable days there. There was no closet, but there was this strange metal sculpture about six feet tall, to hang clothes on. The last night I had to move to another room because of a scheduling conflict, I think. There are some rooms in which the heat valves for the antique steam radiators have become irredeemably stuck full open, and my second room was such a one. I spent a very uncomfortable night - I couldn't find any staff to try to get the problem rectified - and in fact had to open a window in the dining nook and place a small fan there, then sleep in a chair leaning on the dining table just to be cool enough to doze. I know that sounds, terrible, and it wasn't particularly pleasant, but hey, it was all just part of the unique experience of this quirky little inn in the heart of the funky East Colfax/Capital Hill area.
Just before I arrived the B&B was sold to a new owner, and at the time I was there they were no longer serving breakfast. In fact Carter, the desk clerk, had formerly been working as the cook there, and had just been shifted over to desk duty. In lieu of a custom-made breakfast they were giving out vouchers for breakfast at a little cafe down the street, but I never ate there personally; there are just too many great eating places around the area to waste a meal at an ordinary little cafe. At any rate, I am hoping that the new ownership will institute a thorough revamp of the rooms (and the smoking patio outside - see my pictures for the poor state of affairs at the time I was there) and that the next time I stay I will find all the unfortunate little problems and inconveniences solved. And I hope they start serving breakfast again. After all, it's not even a real B&B without the breakfast, right?
And I will stay there again. It's just too special a place not to relish it, even with all its warts and scars. For an inveterate street wanderer and city-scape photographer this is well-nigh the perfect location; and as someone who hates cookie-cutter highway motels I am MUCH happier here amongst the nineteenth-century amenities than in a Holiday Inn or Best Western. I know now that I have to go over whatever room I get and make sure it is in reasonable condition before I accept it. By the way, I didn't look upstairs but I heard that many of the rooms on the second floor are nicer than the first-floor ones, but maybe they are pricier too. My rooms were certainly reasonable enough.
Parking is on-street only; during the day it's metered nearby, but at night it's free and reasonably plentiful. I don't park my Corvette convertible on the street unattended so I parked it downtown at the Museum of Art parking garage, where there's full-time security. Between the transit system and Uber/Lift you really shouldn't miss your car anyway.
Recommended, but only for the adventurous and incurable romantics like me. If you are allergic to street noise, or homeless people, or random chaos, do yourself a favor and go stay at the Art downtown. You'll spend two to four times more, but you'll be much happier.response / report this review -

Quaint BandB with decorations that mirror your Grandma's style. The rooms are large with some open space. The kitchenette is perfect for storing leftovers or trail snacks for your next hike. Would return if we visited Denver again.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and accommodating. The kitchenette had everything we might need. The bed was SUPER comfy and the pillows did not hurt my neck like some hotel pillows do. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing! I do recommend getting a room in the back of the house, as there is some street noise on the Colfax side. As long as you are comfortable in urban environments and don't have an issue finding street parking, this is definitely a place to stay more than once!

We enjoyed our stay here. Very friendly and informative staff. Beautiful rooms with comfortable beds. Located in a very urban neighborhood with lots of places of interest within walking distance. We enjoyed our made to order breakfast of pancakes bacon and fresh fruit. We were also lucky enough to enjoy an afternoon tea time with delicious scones and cookies.
