We booked a room 1 week ahead of our stay. Check in was quick and easy. Inn keeper provided information on local transit and provided a Subway map upon our arrival. We stayed in Ella's suite an area named for both Ms. Ella Fitzgerald and Muhammad Ali. The suite was clean, comfy, and quiet. The Inn is close to City College NY, and a healthy walk from uptown's historical sites. The locals were polite and helpful. My only regret is we didn't stay longer! I wanted an organic NY experience in a location with historical significance. Im satisfied! Looking forward to coming back.

Don't EVER stay at this Hotel. I made a reservation through Expedia for a room that was advertised for $70. I was unable to use the room because there was a bad snowstorm in my area which prevented me from traveling so I called the hotel to cancel my reservation only to finout that the hotel manager, Jeremy, had already charged my card and refused to refund my money despite the fact that I didn't use the room. And on top of that, I wasn't charged $70. Instead it was $289.00 which may have been a mistake on Expedias part, but Jeremy STILL refuses to refund me the money that I was overcharged. He was very rude and arrogant over the phone and told me flat out that wasn't getting my money back. I had to make a dispute through my credit card company instead. I wouldn't recommend anyone to ever do business with this hotel. They could have easily refunded my money and I would have just rebooked with them after the storm cleared up but Jeremy's greedy a** blew it. Congratulations a**hole.

Poor customer service. The man who answered the phone was rude and ignorant. Not great for prospective customer. Worse attitude than a New Yorker & I am one! I work in customer service and I would not hang up or speak to my customers the way he did. Deserve less than a full star.

A quiet brownstone style home on the north western side of Manhattan. The place has a push lock to get in the front door. A very traditional entry hall greets you with an old house feel. If you pet the resting cat it will follow you around and ask for more. Don't expect a welcoming party, but don't be afraid to walk through to the next room. The bald man wearing a goatee sits at a computer and he uses as few words as possible. The room is filled with books and Jazz style art. He'll take your payment, offer you a map, and expect you to take your bags upstairs. The stairs are old and creak heavily.

We stayed in the Big Mama room at the top. It was a spacious room with all the fixings. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure was adequate, and there was a full range compliment of electronics and appliances. The neighborhood was quiet and within walking distance to many great restaurants and sites.

We will definitely stay here again if we return to Harlem.
