The outside of the hotel looks a bit dated but don't be fooled. As soon as you walk in everything has been renovated. The staff is friendly and provided us with great service. There is a bar available right next to the pool so you can have a cocktail outside while lounging. The rooms are very minimalistic with a lot of open space and not a whole lot of furniture but everything was very clean and comfortable. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area

I have no idea how this place got 4 stars. I just booked a 9 day stay and am leaving after 1 day. The hotel is nice at first entry but once you get to the hotel, mine was filthy. The bed had crumbs all over it and the sheets/blanket smelled unwashed. The walls are pretty thin and our neighbors were jerks. @12, 2AM, & 4AM they were either screaming, running through the halls, or slamming doors. The walls are so thin, music playing through the phone could be heard pretty clearly. Staff is nice, but that's just a bonus if the stay is nice.
I wouldn't recommend staying here.response / report this review -

I visited for a company holiday party. Lovely grounds. Nicely decorated for the holidays. The buffet food was very good, especially the vegetarian and vegan options! :-) which is surprising

Tl;dr: a good sleep for a decent price, but not something I want to return to.
The beds were very comfortable and the linens were well cleaned. The pool and hot tub felt great and the lobby looked quite nice. I did not see any signs of insect or arachnid infestation. The few interactions with the front desk were pleasant.
Unfortunately the hallways had threadbare carpet that probably has not been changed since the hotel was built. Paint was peeling on the balcony railings and some of the exterior walls. The hallway paint was an awful green that assaulted the eyes.
The first bathroom shower had been painted over the grout and tile and was severely peeling. The second bathroom shower had paint covering the tile grout which seems like a cheap fix to cover up dirty grout that should be replaced. The bathroom walls were cracking due to excessive moisture from showers with no fan for ventilation. The bathroom vent was an old never-cleaned grate above the shower.
The elevators are very small and only one was working and it was slow. The other was being repaired and made the area smell of oil. There are only two plugs at the desk and they are already occupied by the light and coffee maker. Another guest mentioned that their bathroom plugs did not work at all.
The shuttle to Universal Studios was convenient, but felt slightly unsafe. The emergency exit window on one side had no closing handles and was not able to securely shut. It may have been jury rigged closed so I am not sure it would fully open in an emergency.
We did not try the room service, but would be unlikely to do so having seen some of the food partially uncovered and unattended near the elevator while the employee was nowhere in sight.
It seems like they may be in the middle of a very long and slow renovation that is hampered by past "fixes" that hide the problems and balloon costs to fix correctly. But it could also be that they barely cover operating costs and only do minimum maintenance to cover up problems without truly fixing them.response / report this review -

Internet does not work at all, bad for me I stayed and had work to do. The pool area and great but the hotel is starting to get older and run down. Elevators did not work, I got suck in one for about 10-15 and they were able to get me out! This is due to with many things being dated and older. This place is in a good location but needs a overhaul don't let the website photos fool you. Very noisy party hotel bad for me I was here for work and had tons to do.

Went here for a wedding. Felt like you're walking back into the 80's. Definitely needs a remodel with a lot better lighting in the ballroom. Outdoor ceremony was beautiful though.

The room was clean. Basic but clean!
We had to pay to use computer when we paid almost 200 a night. There was only one working elevator and it is slow. You end up sharing with cleaning crew. So you have to wait for them to get off. Ended up using stairs from 5th floor. Secondly you have to pay to park in a parking spot. Last when I arrived i was told they had to put a $250.00 hold on credit card. No where did it say that ahead of time. Other than that cold ac comfortable bed.response / report this review -

If I could give this place no stars then I would. The workers here had no Customer Service skills. The guy from the front desk was very rude and gave me attitude. This hotel lied to my friends and I about our check in time after saying they would request for early check in, but when we showed up the employee stated that they don't even hornor that. So I don't understand why they would tell us that. We drove all night to make it to the hotel around 8am, but they wanted us to come back around 3pm. Not a great experience with this hotel.

Nice clean rooms, include the bathroom facilities. Comfortable beds and basic amenities. The pool is great. Both the diner and the restaurant serve great food at reasonable prices. There's no gym for a work-out, and no hot water for tea in the rooms, but the grounds are lovely. It's surrounded by lots of restaurants and other shops in the local area.

Great hotel for universal studios. Checked in no problem, room was perfect! Shower could do with some improvement maybe a cubicle installed instead of a bath + shower curtain. But overall excellent. Balcony was a view of the rear car park, but didn't bother us as we didn't spend much time in the room. Pool view rooms were available, however they may be loud at night, as each time we came in relatively late there were still people swimming and drinking by the pool. Hotel reception staff were very pleasant and more than happy to help! WiFi again very good. Didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment. Would definitely recommend the hotel, especially for universal studios. The area of studio city is great, some good food around the area.

Close free shuttle service to the universal park, lots of choice of resteraunts within walking distance. Modern clean hotel with comfy beds and spacious rooms. Would recommend.

Have been here a couple times for company retreats in the Caribou Room. Open space with lots of light, surrounded by windows overlooking an outdoor fountain/dining area, relaxing but not placid. Lunch was a basic sandwich deli style buffet. Overall it's a nice place while not overly fancy.

The staff is really nice and friendly. Our room is pretty good. The bathroom is beautiful, but it is ruined a little by the paint chipping in the shower and weird, questionable vent directly above your head while showering. I can't tell if there is just rust/ crude built up in there, or if there is mold. The room is spacious, clean, and trendy. If there was a mini-fridge, it would have made it perfect to stay here. The biggest thing for me is that the website said free parking, but I was charged $18 per night. Not too happy about that. Otherwise, it was a nice place to stay. I did like the free shuttle to Universal Studios, even though the last pickup was 8 pm, but the park didn't close until 10 pm.

We stayed just one night. It was not terrible, but not great. We had two rooms and both had items/trash from the previous guests left behind. Beds/pillows were fine, but not particularly comfortable. They have a shuttle that goes to universal studios, but the return times were not convenient for us. We decided that for the price, next time we would rather pay just a little bit more and stay at one of the hotels within walking distance.

Minimalist retro, both taken a bit to the extreme. Super thin walls. We were told it was a four star place, but after the first night I would have been reluctant to give it 2 stars. Since the hallway carpet looks like it is reused, faded 1970s miniature golf carpet, you expect the rest of the place to be old and dirty. Notwithstanding, the rooms seem pretty clean with newer flooring, paint and fixtures. Tub and shower were clean.
The place grew in me after the first night. The retro is legit. While walking between the buildings or pulling up a chair poolside, you half expect the Rat Pack to swing by.
That said, this is NOT a family vacation hotel, since there are not enough chairs in the room, and table/desk space is almost nonexistent. And if all the parking spaces near your room are blocked off due to a film shoot on site, just expect the front desk to tell you to buck up little camper and park on the other side of the complex because there is plenty of room over there. No parking refund, no sympathy, no help.
Maybe for a couple getaway, especially those bitten by the nostalgia bug from the 50s and early 60s.response / report this review
