Customer service could be a bit better. Was there with a friend who mentioned he was wanting one if the guns in the case. You would think the clerk would ask " would you like me to open the case and show you it"? Didn't happen.
Good shop people are very helpful
Love this shop! Great staff who are super friendly and helpful!
Would love to support this local shop.BUT they are extremely rude. Not sure how they remain in business. Have made a few small purchases there and each one felt like I wan an inconvenience. If I could give zero stars I would.
Update : You are better off going to the small bait/outdoor shop in Dewiit, IL. Its about 20 minutes away, but you don't have to deal with Smiley's BS.
I work with small businesses every day. I know that customer service is a huge part of your business profile, and it travels by word of mouth which is the best advertisement there is. I have to say, I have been in this store probably 8 times and not a single person has even said hello as I walked through the door. Today was my last straw. I heard two guys arguing in the back, the guy up front never even looked at me as I walked through the door, never said hello or I'll be with you in a minute. I was in there for fifteen minutes watching another guy move boxes around and who never assisted his colleague or make any remark to any of the other three customers in the store. I don't know how you can sleep at night or not have a guilty conscience about how you run your business. Your customer service is at the bottom, your prices are at the top and your reviews suck. Get it together or get taken over. Sad review to write as I try to always support local businesses. Word of mouth is not in your favor today or in the future - I wish you well.
I live just down the street from this store and about 7 years ago I was looking to buy my first "nice" bow. I did not know exactly what I was looking for and went in to ask questions and the guy (he still works there and I don't know how) made me feel like an idiot for asking any questions and they I was not worth his time. It is so close to my house I have stopped in throughout the years and other people the work there are friendly and good to work with. But this one person in particular is awful and always there and he has not changed!! I will drive 2 hours out of my way to by something I could buy from there because it seriously was the worst customer experience I have ever had. The prices on everything have seemed pretty high in there, so really no need to go in unless buying a hunting license that are all priced the same. Go to Select Archery if you need anything archery related as they are amazing to work with.
Best place in town to purchase a bow or gun. Staff is very knowledgeable and eager to help. I will be a customer for life.
Unbelievably rude service. Came in to politely offer a trade which this guy immediately took as a d**k measuring contest even though I bought about $250 worth of merchandise from this guy the day before (I should've learned my lesson because he patronized a teenager asking an honest question about fishing equipment while I was checking out). This person didnt even know what I had because it took him 5 minutes to look it up in his computer. Instead of giving me a counter offer, the guy laughed at me and just told me "not even close." I asked him "well how 'not even close' am I" about 3 times. He tried to lecture me about how he can't price gauge his customers for anything less than 83% markup. He offered me less than half of what the gun is worth on the market. I said no thanks and he didn't even thank me for coming in.
I hold 1 on 1 negotiations for $1 million - $50 million dollar deals in my day job. There is understandably some tension in those negotiations. But this guy is so insecure that he can't negotiate with a would-be long-term customer over only hundreds of dollars without being courteous and polite.
I concur with other reviewers, this place should be called "Frownies" and it's the worst place ever. Just wish I could return that purchase from the day before in protest of this customer service nightmare. That guy's momma did a bad job.
Never shopping at "Smiley's" again. Go out of town to avoid this place. You'll be smiling if you do.
