Visited fory friends 21st birthday
After reading the past reviews (granted they were 2+ years old) I was pretty nervous at what I'd find. We stayed at the Smokies Cabin and it was absolutely beautiful. Contrary to the past reviews, it was very clean and I'd rate it as a 3-start hotel. The refrigerator and microwave were spotless and it had great pots and pans for cooking. The only downside is that the old dresser in the bedroom was broken and the shower curtain liner was a bit old. But otherwise it was perfect. In fact, when you're in the woods you expect things to be a bit dusty, to have leaves strewn about the porch, and to find spider webs (no matter how hard you clean), but we didn't find any of that. So I felt a need to come home and write this right away, because it looks like the management company took the past reviews to heart and changed things around. So to the rest of you who are planning on going up there, no need to fear! It's the picturesque cabin in the woods you were hoping for.
Deceitful to deal with. Will tell you your reservation is good to only not honor it and try to place you in a different cabin than previously booked. Very obvious that they could careless about retaining your business. Only worried about filling it with more bodies. There are too many other places to stay at nearby than to deal with them.
I had a very similar experience as the last rater. The cabin floors were filthy; if you took your shoes off you could feel dirt and trash sticking to your feet. There were cobwebs everywhere. Behind the toilet looked like it had not been cleaned in months there was even trash stuck back there that looked like it had been soaked in urine. We went to use the oven and upon trying to put food in the oven after preheating it found all the pots and pans, which were dirty. When we went to use the microwave we found someone else's leftovers in a bowl. God only knows how long it had been there. The refrigerator was gross and wreaked of old food though we did not find any. The mattress was horrible; you could feel every spring in it and there was no way to get comfortable. We were under the impression that there would be a grill only to find a pathetic, and dirty, park-like grill. We notified the office and they were very apologetic, however, that does not compensate what we went through or the money we paid for what was sub-par. We wound up going home a day early Strongly do not suggest this place.
I reserved two nights in Smokies Cabin. It ended up being the most disappointing night ever!! We got there in the afternoon. It looked like a cute cozy place. Went in, looked around, needed to go out for dinner so we went into town. Got back to our "cozy" cabin. We couldn't open up the windows in the bedroom or either bathroom because they didn't have screens. Cobwebs had totally taken over them anyway. The beams in the bedroom were covered in cobwebs - 9-10" long ones. There were dust bunnies in big tufts on the floor. I walked into the bathroom to take a shower, and there was a cockroach in the tub. There were pee lines down the front of the toilet bowl. We opened up the fridge, and there was someone elses old food in there. Sort of makes you wonder how well the place is cleaned, besides the cobwebs and pee lines. Sat on the couch to watch tv and a spider came down from the ceiling in front of my face, sort of like in the cartoons. a leg on the couch was replaced by a piece of wood stuck underneath it. the lighting was so poor, i couldn't even read a book there. but this was not funny, the whole thing was just plain sad. I went to sleep with my clothes on, didn't sleep much because i was waiting for something to drop from the ceiling. And the mattress is so old, the springs have to be rusty because all you had to do was roll over and they would make noise.Next morning i removed the thread bare sheets as instucted in the manual when we checked in and there were all sorts of body fluid stains on the mattress pad. then i noticed that there was a puddle of some kind of stuff dried up on the floor next to the bed. yuk!!! I called Tina and told her about the conditions and that we could not stay for our second night. All she said was that she was sorry that I felt that way. I didn't 'feel' that way, that's just how it was - plain old dirty. if i wanted those kind of conditions with bugs I would have pitched a tent. and at least then i wouldn't have to deal with other peoples dried up body fluids or pee stains or old food. aren't body fluids against some kind of health code????? I would have given it no stars, but 1 was the least i could do. oh and there was an old dirty mop and broom sitting out on the deck, too.
