So, a few weeks ago was my first experience. I happened upon the restaurant and was drawn in off the street from the façade. The host greeted me, and I expressed I was a bar patron by nature. From that point I was gestured to the bar on street level. The bar was almost full, and when approaching I was gruffly greeted by fellow patrons warning me of a wait time on beverages. Not to be discouraged, I found out there was a bar upstairs!
Now, I have no idea why the host did not mention this in the first place, but it was the MOVE! Upstairs entailed a great patio with a view of the city, a view on the brewing vats which I didn't know existed as that this is a BrewPub, and I had the pleasure of meeting Vince! Not only did he turn my initial impression around but I brought some colleagues the following day who could only rave of his hospitality! Go to Max for the beer, stay for Vince's southern hospitality!

WOW! We had planned our event a long time ago, pre covid, and were not sure if we could move forward. Thanks to the integrity and passion of owner Alan LeBlanc, the rehearsal dinner was held on schedule. Anthony and his team were so helpful and friendly. The staff provided excellent service, and seemed like friends by the end of the night. The drinks delicious Max Lager's beers and cocktails. The food outstanding! every dish exceeded our expectations for quality!!! The best part? The atmosphere. What a comfortable and unique setting. We are so looking forward to the re-opening and going back to Max Lager's again. THANK YOU ALAN!!!

One of my fav spots for quality american food. Loved this place from the first taste. Prices were fair for the quality of the food.

Went from nearby hotel to find late snack,10:00pm. This was recommended by the valet. Good feel when finally got in (was walking and dark almost went in back door). Loved the decor and atmosphere. Only had pizza and drink. Was alone so service was sketchy at times even though not very busy. However, food runner and another waitress were very attentive. I’m sure getting ready to close. I would definitely go back and take the family.

What a great place! The atmosphere was wonderful with the brewery to be seen from our seat. We had a wonderful waitress who was quick with the drinks. The meal was delicious and the picture should speak for itself. The brisket had a good char on one end and the bacon was thick and crispy! I highly recommend this establishment for dining.

Pounced in when I got there, got a not advertised flight of beer (I think it was the manager bar tending), food came out too fast, but was fresh and hot, then ignored for the other 45 minutes I was there maybe some water or a dessert when you cleared the plates / cups - no! To make it worse check was missing dinner. After waiting 10 minutes, being ignored and finally informing the bartender, I made a stink in the kitchen, 5 more minutes still no manager! The bartender said it was on the House for the trouble and wait, good that they at least empower the employees! Even tried to pay for the beer (so I could at least leave a tip) and they said no/ refused. So minus stars for service, plus stars for food and quality.

FYI - last ATL (4+ years ago)visit I went here multiple times and brought over others and over $500+ business to this place, the service side (and management) is slipping severely. Only good side is they empower employees to make things right, and the food has good quality.

The staff was professional and friendly. The food was amazing! I got the ribs, my husband got the salmon and added shrimp skewers. Even the kids cheese pizza and fish were tasty The only bad thing was we ate everything so there were no leftovers. My cocktail was probably one of the best I've ever had too. This is my new favorite place.

We went last evening as a party of 12 to celebrate my birthday. The food was good and the atmosphere is nice. The service was horrible. Service can make or break a restaurant. It took over 30 minutes just to get our first round of drinks, most of which were house brewed drafts. No appetizers were offered and it appears that the two servers who waited on us weren't coordinating at all. One of the servers even began to take dinner orders before our first round of drinks arrived. She took orders from all 12 from one end of the table, which also seemed odd to me. A man who appeared to be a manager walked around the restaurant and checked on a few tables, but never checked on a party of 12, which seemed odd. Drink refills were slow to arrive because there was little checking in on the table. Some drink orders never arrived until we had to work to get the attention of the servers. At the end of the meal, dessert wasn't offered to the table. When it came time for checks, things once again seemed to be all mixed up. Not sure that I should give the restaurant another try or not.

I can't express enough how amazing the food and environment is here. I got the Manhattan steak plate both days I came and it was perfect each time. My friend got the ribs and they char the sauce on perfectly. The drinks are well made and the staff is helpful and seem to love their job. It's the best place to get amazing food and a relaxed environment. I even caught ATL rapper Russ on the speakers and it made my day. Definitely make this a point to try!

I need to update my review. Because of my original post I was contacted by someone in their corporate office and urged to give them a second chance, which I did this past weekend.
We came in this past Saturday night - at the peak time of 7:30. Though there was a wait, we had made a reservation and were seated immediately.
Our waiter was very pleasant and professional. We each ordered drinks from the bar and they were delivered quickly. Our food came out less than 10 minutes after we placed our order. My wife had the fried chicken and I had the Manhattan steak. My steak was a perfect mid-rare.
All in all, we will be back, though we are still hesitant about visiting during DragonCon, we come downtown often enough that we will consider Max Lager's anytime we are in the vicinity.

Train wreck. Wait staff tried a team approach. It really didn't work out. Manager offered free meal and gift card. Had my girl out for her birthday, asked her what she wanted to do and she said "go home". That's pretty bad. Blown steak temperature followed by 6 other mishaps. It sucked and we will never be back.

They do a good job, even when busy. Son & I went here after the Dragon Con Parade, so it was extremely busy. Half hour quoted wait was correct, once seated the waitress was very attentive. The beer and food is always good and a nice value. Support your local brewer.

It was my first time here. It was busy but the staff was super friendly and efficient. Food was hot and delicious. The beer selection at the upstairs bar was awesome. My wife and I love this place and will definitely be back.

While on vacation to Atlanta me and my husband happened upon this little brewery. The service from our waitress was exceptional. We sampled and drank several of their house brewed beers and all were good. Food was reasonably priced and delicious. Decor was very nice and the place has great history. We would recommend this to anybody visiting Atlanta!!!

Had the Manhattan, ordered it medium. It came out a perfect medium with a well seasoned char on the outside. A great NY strip. The sides tasted fresh. The green beans were perfect with a nice butter glaze, cooked just right having a slight crisp to them. Went on a Wednesday night at 6:30 and got I'm right away. They were busy but fortunately had a table. No problems with the service.

My wife and I were seated promptly. I guess it was a slow night. Despite this, our waitress had the worst attitude. She seemed more concern with her cell phone than taking our order. This was proved to be true. She came back three times to confirm our order. The food was ok. I wasn't expecting anything extraordinary. We left disappointed having paid $70 for a meager dinner. We will not be back.

Great food, great beer, and friendly staff, what more can you ask for?
They were very busy and accomodated a large group, with standing and sitting customers (approx. 12 total at our table(s).) Thanks for a great experience.

This was by far the best food and best experience we had while on our vacation in Atlanta. With three children who are all picky eaters, we were a little hesitant to try such a nice restaurant but the hostess sat the kids at their own table and gave them markers to color with. They loved it! They even cleaned their plates, which they NEVER do! The chicken wings as an appetizer are amazing, even the kids loved those! The child's size cheese pizza is huge and all three children are some of it and loved it! The cheese bread appetizer is delicious and if you like bread, you MUST have it! The collards are amazing! My husband wants the recipe! Our waiter was very attentive and gave us the best service we received at any place we ate while in Atlanta! We loved it and wish we had gone much earlier in our vacation so we could've eaten there every night!
