Ive been eating here for 20+ years. Always great catfish and hushpuppies. Service sometimes takes awhile because they get busy, but has been a consistently awesome place over the years. Although I no longer live in Macon, I always make sure I eat here whenever I’m back in town.

Excellent food. Hush puppies were some of the best I've ever ate. The kids menu was a lot of food for a great price. The service was good too.

The oysters on the half shell were the best I've had in the area. They were large and fresh. The clam chowder was thick and very flavorable. Grilled sea sea bass very good.
Our party of 7 had to wait, but the experience was worth it.

Skipper Zimmerman found that he had a passion for fine cooking while doing just that on St Simmon's Island , GA back in the late '70's and early '80's .
So Skipper took a leap of faith and came home to Macon, GA and opened his first restaurant on riverside and called it Skipper's.
I remember eating Blackened Red Fish there for the first time . WOW .
I and my second wife drove from Eastman to Macon every weekend so I could get me some more of Skippers Blackened Red Fish .
Then on another leap of faith Skipper bought his own place on Vineville that really didn't look like much . But Skipper Zimmerman turned that little hole in the wall into a consistantly great place to meet friends and eat great fresh seafood . Skipper's consistance to allways being there among his customers gives an asurring feel to his seafood loving crowds that fill that little Jim Shaws everytime the doors open . He has a casual side with an outdoor fireplace , and another side for that special aniversery or special night . Either side gets the same fresh seafood cooked to perrfection .
Trust me , there is no other place in Macon, GA that has what Jim Shaws restaurant and it's faithfull owner Skipper Zimmer have to offer day in and day out .

Nice people, and great service. Probably one of the best spots in Macon for seafood. We had the catfish and shrimp dishes. Catfish was amazing and so was the shrimp. They have a pretty wide variety too. Prices were fair but is definitely on the pricier side. Can easily cost you $60-$80 for two people once you consider drinks and tip. Give them try, we highly recommend them.

First off I will have to say the food was amazing but the experience was aweful. We sat on the patio in the bar area and after to my amazement it there was no server to take care of you. Even though there was two bartenders for a very small bar area the patron had to go to the bar put in your order get your own drinks and refills, they called your name over an intercom to get your food, Of all my travels I have never experienced this kind of Customer Service or should I say lack of. We didn't have drinks but or tab was $140 for 4 People and you would think for that price you wouldn't have to be a food runner. I witnessed a party of 10 get up and leave because they didn't want to serve there selves. So if they spent the same as we did seems like Jim Shaw's lost out on $350.

We were recommended by a lot of people in town to eat at this restaurant. And the king with high recommendations. They were right. Food was cooked properly the atmosphere was quaint and the service was very polite. We will go again.

Awesome catfish! Met a friend who was here from home so was my first time an boy I will be back! It is situated in a not so easy place to get in an an a extremely small parking lot an fills up fast so get there early. The staff were friendly an the service was great but the food, OMG! Mouth watering catfish, with hush puppies an slaw like grandma makes. They are a great restaurant an offer a variety of food an craft beers. Take the time if your here in Macon an try it out you won't be sorry!

Amazing crab soup and tough to beat clam chowder. Oysters and shrimp are superb. Good beer selection. Prices are very reasonable (for seafood). However vegetables are mostly frozen or canned. Also, very weak cocktail sauce--ask for extra horseradish.

I'm usually in the mountains this time of year to celebrate my birthday with the best boyfriend in the world. This year, we had other priorities and I had to choose a nice place to have a cozy dinner for two. OMG!!!! I have never had food this wonderful and the service we got from Jenny was over the top!

Jim Shaws was recommended on my visit to Macon. I must say the shrimp and catfish was as advertised with great flavor. However the seafood combo was horrible, with to much salt and a tomato paste like consistency. Also the grab cakes were a waste of money with no taste. I ordered a drink to go with my meal and it had to be about 12 oz for $2 plus bucks. When I got back to my hotel room. The waiter did not put any napkins or utensils in my bag. I was highly agitated. Probably won't be back or recommend this place.
