This was a surprising find in Iowa City. The restaurant is attached to a mercado. Very casual, basically fast food but w table service if you want. I had the street taco combination. Carnitas are excellent, carne asada a little salty, chorizo very good.

I grew up on Mexican food. My Mexican mother's kitchen always had authentic food and flavors from Aguascalientes, Mexico. I also travel to Oaxaca each year and enjoy 'la comida Mexican de Oaxaca.' So, if there is one thing I do know it's this; what is and what is not authentic Mexican food. And the first time I waked into La Regia I knew, I smelled real Mexican food there. There was no other authentic Mexican food restaurant in Iowa City until La Regia opened; The best Mexican food this side of the Mississippi!

This place has amazing authentic Mexican food but every time I place an online order, they don't see it and I end up waiting 15 minutes for my food. That isn't the point of pick up. Get it together.

As of today, I will not support this business! I waited 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge my presence, but instead they were all by the cash register socializing among themselves! The waitress finally came to my table, didn't ask me how I was doing, just asked," What do you.want?" In a not so welcoming voice! The Mexican customers got their orders and drinks taken care off, while the whites and few blacks that go in there didn't. The male employee at the register with the backwards ball cap was down right mean and arrogant to a male black customer, but warm to the Mexican customer after the black man. Long story short, I will never come to that place again! Unprofessional, no customer service skills and racist!

We came to La Regia a month ago with five friends. We sat and waited for a waitress for twenty minutes they were not busy. The waitress took our order, then we sat and waited for food for an hour. After an hour and twenty minutes the manager realized we had not been fed. Then we waited an additional 20 minutes for food. And then we were charged full price!
I loved this place before they remodled, i even wrote them a letter with our bad experience and no response.

Great tacos in a town where good Mexican food is lacking. Prices aren't cheap, but also aren't expensive; very reasonable. The service isn't great, but they make up for it in the quality of their food. Everyone who came in after we did (including us) were confused if you should seat yourself, go to the counter to order, wait for a server, and go to the counter to pay because no one was quick to help or serve any customers. All staff are very friendly and helpful once you get their attention. In my opinion, they should remove the server component and just let patrons order, pick up, and pay at the counter. It would remove a lot off confusion and seems to be how the restaurant is set up anyway.

Best Mexican food in Iowa City. Love how they started out as a food truck and now ha be a restraunt that will seat almost 100 customers. The latest upgrade looks wonderful.

Best tacos in Iowa City, this is where I go when I'm missing the desert southwest!! It's also attached to their own damn meat market/mini grocery and the coconut popsicles are amazing !

Excellent, quickly-made food. Top notch steak burrito. The place isn't attractive on the inside but the food makes up for it.

They have some tasty food, but they always took a lot of time to bring you food. It looks like they prefer to serve the take-out first rather than customer who is sitting there for 10 min. They have a nice service too.

I absolutely love this place! By far the best Mexican food in town. For the very very very few nay Sayers. It's a Taqueria, not a regular Mexican restaurant! So no. They don't wait on you at the tables, No they do give you chips and salsa, and no they don't have someone greeting you. Please learn the difference of the 2. This is AUTHENTIC Mexican food!!! The very best in Johnson county! Great prices, Great food , and great staff!!! LOVE IT!!!!
