The city has required Hotel 17 to revert back to SRO Extended Stay Hotel: 30 day increments. But at current 30-day rate, if you divide by 14 days, it's about what it used to cost for a single, $106/night. Do the math for your case. I've been coming here for over ten years and find it adequate. The shared bathrooms are fine. They're cleaned often. And with two to a floor wing for 11 rooms, I've never had a conflict. I haven't found anything price competitive in Manhattan. Rooms are now serviced just once per week. I don't know how this will evolve in time as this Extended Stay has only been in effect for a few months.

Verry vintage. Not a big fan of the bathroom situation.

Well, first off, unless I didn't read it somewhere, or I just didn't understand. there are bathrooms but you have to share?! Didn't know that it also was extremely cold in the room. I called the front desk to see if they could adjust the old style heater in the room but when the maintenance men came to adjust it, he said it was on? (In very broken english. Even if I wanted an explanation on why it was so cold I'm sure he couldn't have engaged it that convo; Sorry peeps, I'm a coconut, I never learned how to speak Spanish.) SO we slept 3 nights in a frozen room. Mind you we visited NYC the week of the Noreaster blizzard. Overall next visit to the city I won't go back. Besides the beautiful authenticity of the hotels architectural design and the VERY convenient location it wouldn't make it back on my list of hotels to stay at.

This hotel is well placed in lower Manhattan. The metro is only 3 blocks away about 5mins.It's very close to many tourists attractions. It's within 15mins walking to the iconic Empire State Building. The hotel is very clean, especially the shared toilet.I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel was cozy, and very friendly, I had a single bed room and the shared bathroom was vacant 99 precent of the time, would definitely go there again

We were put in a non-occupiable room with incredibly loud, banging pipes and an extremely hot heater which could not be turned down. When we called the front desk to complain, we were basically told that we just had to put up with it because the hotel was full and we could not have another room. Sleeping was not possible and our entire planned next day in New York was ruined. We were also lied to and told that we would be fairly compensated for such a horrible experience. Any decent business would of removed the entire charge associated with such an egregious error like putting anyone in a "torture chamber" room. But we started to realize that they knew about the room and it's problems and put us there anyway hoping we would just put up with it. If you have a problem, don't trust a word these people say. The manager is supposedly never there. I guess he's too scared to show his face and makes the front desk do the dirty work. I rather pay more for a hotel that's run like a reputable business. Never again and I'll warn anyone I can about staying in this place.

    It is what it is!

If you need a reasonable cheap (for the area) place to stay with basic amenities (shower, towels, clean sheets) and not much else, it can work. For over $100 it feels a bit overpriced, but then again, it's in a great location. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The shared bathrooms were surprisingly tolerable and I never did have to wait. They are cleaned periodically, and must be cleaned pretty often as it was clean every time I went in.

This would be a decent overnight stay for those who are looking to spend as little time in the hotel room as possible, just needing a bedroom and bathroom. It's a couple steps up from couch surfing or a hostel/dorm but not much more. The walls are fairly thin, the building is very old, but again it's decently clean and in a great location. You just have to know what you are getting into upfront.
