We booked camp site #81 for the last weekend in Sept. Easy reservation and check-in. Site was clean and park was well maintained. Some have commented on buying firewood outside the park. The in-park price is comparable and the cheap stuff locals are selling is pine and will burn in 5 mins. Hiked the trails and the beach, was great time with good weather. Def will be back!

The only problem we had was the wood that they sell there. It was $5.50 a bundle and over half of it was pine not oak. Pine burns quicker then oak. Most places have two options pine or hard wood and then they have two different prices being pine will be cheaper of the two

Lots of parking. Shaded paved walk all the way to the beach. Plenty of room to spread out and get your own spot. No dirty river water run off like Grand Grand Haven and Holland. Just good clean fun.

The hiking trails are a little hilly but beautiful. There are lots of trees and shade to walk in and take in nature's beauty. The visitor center has an awesome little museum with information about dunes, the parks founder, botany, and much more. The beach is also gorgeous and very easy to get to.

Great place to camp if you don't mind the crowd. Playground kept the 3, 5 and 7 year old kids happy while the cleaned-often bathrooms and showers made the adults happy. The sandy hike to the beach was long for the active 3 year old but the 5 and 7 year old had no problems other than sandy shoes. Little Black Creek runs into the camper beach and it often is warmer than Lake Michigan. Don't miss the nature center with its sand dune exhibit, fish, snakes, nature programs and more. Family fun is number one at Hoffmaster.

We camped at Hoffmaster for a week with 3 children (7, 5, and 2) in July 2017 and enjoyed it immensely. The site was pretty good - lots of beautiful trees behind it. The campers beach, despite the walk, was well worth it. The day use beach was fine too, though with small kids, we preferred the campers beach. The Butterfly Hike, turtle program, and dune hike (to find ant lions and tiger beetles) were great activities for us and the kids. Kudos to the park rangers who led them! We like to try different parks, but we'd consider a return visit!

This an absolutely lovely place to go for a day-hike or to set up camp. The facilities are clean, everyone is friendly and the trails are gorgeous. There are plenty of routes to choose from, but I prefer those that take you down past the dunes to the beach, at which point you can walk along the beach or cut back into the forest. The trails can be a bit challenging to those with limited mobility, but otherwise entirely family-friendly and safe.

Beautiful park and loved the trailsthough the 1 mile hiking trail seemed to be longer than 1 mile. Was a little thrown off though about the need to pay to enter the park. It's $11 for in state plates and they do not offer military discount on that.

Perfectly clear day! Temperatures were perfect for a 7 mile practice hike for Isle Royale. Most trails were well marked and easy to navigate.

This was a great RV. park. Very clean bathrooms, had a amazing camp host, huge selection of sites. Lake Michigan access was great. Plenty of trees and if you really needed something wallmart was a 15 min drive away.
Only thing I did not like was the price for wood at the camp ground was high. Plenty of wood is offered outside the camp ground at a huge savings.response / report this review
