A delicious place for lunch. We definitely recommend getting a reservation first prior to planning your visit. My husband enjoyed his “impossible burger” and stills talks about it, 1 week later. I ordered a poke salad and loved every bite. The menu had plenty to choose from, and the menu items are all carefully thought out. A truly tasty experience
I love this place!
Founding Farmers is a wonderful, and very popular place to eat in Downtown DC. There are numerous parking garages and a great deal of street parking available in the blocks immediate to the restaurant.
When I visited Founding Farmers, I had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, and had the shrimp Cobb salad for my entree. The food was fresh, fast, and delicious!
All the servers and hosts in the restaurant are very hospitable and knowledgeable about the menu. I recommend you take the time to ask questions about the menu; they're full of helpful hints and ideas to make your dining experience special!
This is a "must-do" restaurant that you need to stop at when you're in downtown DC.
Amazing food!!! There always seems to be a wait when you show up at the restaurant, but we have no problem getting right in by booking a table on Open Table. I've booked on Open Table 15 minutes before the reservation time and got right in. Good service, bustling atmosphere. For the area this is in, the dishes are very reasonably priced. The fried green tomatoes were to die for!!
Well, we tried it and I won't be going back. Certainly not worth all the hype. While the service was good, the food was mediocre at best and if it wasn't for the fact that I was with some clients I would have returned my meal. We have been to much better places for a lot less money. Come to think about it, I never received the mac and cheese with my country fried slab of rubber either. I expected a bit more out of Founding Farmers.
I loved how the cooks threaten the customers into giving good reviews! The atmosphere is definitely not like a prison yard, the customers haven’t been kept locked up against their will. I thought the food was disgustingly Awfully horridly good. No complaints. This isn’t a help call, please do not contact the authorities to release these prisoners that hypothetically would include me. I love the way they “free up space” in the restaurant. Keeps everyone of the toes. Overall, a recommended location for people of all mental states. Trip of my life.
What can I say about this place? "WOW!!!" immediately comes to mind. A friend and I had brunch here in September 2017, and enjoyed it a great deal. I ordered the Sausage & Biscuit Eggs Benedict with bacon. My friend ordered the Bourbon French Toast with sausage. The portion sizes were perfect, everything we ate was amazing, and the coffee was killer. Best I've had in a long time. The mimosa was also tasty. I'm glad I don't live near this place, because I'd be totally broke and twenty pounds heavier in no time!
Maybe because I'm from New York I'm a little spoiled with food
First, they were really nice about us making a reservation and showing up a few minutes late. They didn't give our table away or anything which was nice!
Second, place has great decor and is really a nice place with great open spaces.
This is where is gets tricky We ordered and before we were told that everything on the menu was good. Again, maybe we didn't order the fan favorite meals But when we got our food the grits were okay, the fries were almost cold but still good and my sandwich was a bit of a mess. Maybe I should have ordered the breakfast foods? It seemed like everyone else loves the place and there was a huge line to get in so I'm assuming everyone else enjoyed it except for our group
It was okay in my opinion and I probably wouldn't wait to come back and instead go to another brunch place.
The service was good too, the girl couldn't be more helpful despite the massive amount of tables she had to wait on!
At nearly 10,000 reviews on yelp, this place lives up to the hype. We both got the chicken and waffles, and did not regret a thing. Each plate comes with mac n cheese and green beans as well. I got the potatoes instead of mac n cheeses and it was some of the softest, creamiest potatoes I've ever eaten. Green beans were pretty well seasoned and tasted fresh. Chicken was out of this world, really filling and crispy and well fried, but not dense in my stomach or unhealthy feeling. The waffles were the best part in my opinion. They were super soft and when you added the runny syrup on it, it tasted like bread pudding but in waffle form. Seriously the best waffles I've ever had. Ya gotta go
Our waitress Hailey was amazing! We wondered into this place without knowing when we left would be one of our favorite places! Great food. Amazing drinks. Great dessert. And amazing service by server, hostess and manager!!! Everything made from scratch. Special dietary needs? No problem! I recommend and I'll be back!
Definitely a spot to check out if you're in downtown DC for a couple of nights. Custom cocktails (made with the restaurant's own distilled spirits), unique sides, and great meat and hometown entrees. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, and although the place was packed (a line out of the door for at least the 90 minutes we were there), we were able to be seated with our reservation relatively quickly. The restaurant is fitted out very nicely and the location can't be beaten. A great meal.
Hearty food from Americana, good size portions in a cool contemporary space. The menu includes many favourites such as chicken and waffles, burgers and steaks. Everything is presented well and options are interesting. I enjoyed the farmers platter. Be careful ordering too much. You get a lot!
Came here at the recommendation of a friend who lives in D.C. She could not have been more spot on with her recommendation. The food was excellent and the atmosphere lively. I was dining alone so sat at the bar. Waited maybe five minutes for a seat to open. Not sure what the time was to get a table, but there appeared to be quite a few waiting. I ordered the crab cakes with the spinach and subbed mac and cheese for the French fries. Very satisfying and delicious. The portion was just the right size. Other meals I saw come out were large. I also ordered the beignets for dessert and got them to go. Easily, one of the best things I have ever tasted. The caramel sauce was sinful, so didn't waste your time with the chocolate or berry sauce. The price was a little high, but it was worth it for the fresh local food. Some of the other menu items looked more reasonably priced.
Superb food and service inside. We had a reservation for our seating and the receptionist wasn't very congenial, was a little rude, but whatever that may be expected. Once we got our table, the service was fantastic. Great variety of delicious food, with fantastic flavor. They have a cornbread that's well known, and to our misfortune they were out when we ordered, but the manager brought us some fantastic candied bacon on the house. Our meals came out reasonable timed, they did bring us cornbread later after it was made. And dessert OMG the cake is fantastic, with a scoop of ice cream. It's plenty to share. Try the sweet tea, with agave Yummy. It's a nice modern place. Busy so make a reservation. I was there a few years ago for lunch and was underwhelmed (I think lunch is a very busy time and I think I ordered a sandwich) but I returned again for a splendid dinner and would definitely return.
This is the type of restaurant that makes you want to write a review because it's so good. The food is beyond amazing and has won me over for the place I go every time I'm in DC. For being right near the White House and being farm to table, it's cheaper than what I'd expect. It's so good that if I even hear anyone mention DC, I immediately bring up Founding Farmers. I have yet to try something that doesn't amaze me with every bite and the drinks are outstanding too. The service is always great and friendly but honestly the food is so good that it doesn't even matter. It is a very busy restaurant however so it's best to make a reservation as far in advance as possible. I don't really write reviews but this place truly deserves it. Hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to. I would give it more stars if I could.
My husband and I went to Founding Farmers in D.C. and had a wonderful dining experience. Our meals were fresh, flavorful and unique. We highly recommend the hand-crafted lemonade! The service was excellent--our server knew the menu very well and gave us helpful recommendations. We even ordered dessert--milkshake and red velvet cake--both out-of-this world good. We will be back next time we are in D.C!
