Horrible ER experience. Nurses were rude, even tried to start an argument with me about my symptoms. Then, instead of seeing a doctor they sent a PA to my room who told me he believed I had bronchitis. 😦 Coughing wasn't even one of my symptoms. Come to find out elsewhere, looks like it's celiac disease!

How crazy to misdiagnose me–but, that's probably because the PA didn't take the time to listen to my symptoms or run any tests (not 1! Not even a urine test which is typically standard.), so stuck on the fact that the triage vitals on my printout showed I was (in his words) "fine." I asked to speak to an actual doctor and he told me that would take a really long time; even though there were only 2 others waiting. I said I didn't mind, he continued to discourage me from doing so. Finally, I just left without being seen.

To already feel as bad as I did health wise, the added stress brought on by the unbelievable rudeness, insensitivity and unprofessionalism just made me feel even worseand, left untreated.

    Just horrible.

I visited the ER early this past Friday afternoon while in pretty bad pain. Knowing that no one really pays much attention to Fibromyalgia, I wasn't terribly surprised that it was two and a half hours before anyone came into the room. Overall, the care was fair. There's only so much they're willing to do about pain management, even though my pain level was obviously extremely high. Five hours later, never actually having seen an MD, I was discharged with some low dose pain meds, and a referral to a pain management practice that I was looking forward to contacting first thing this morning. It was a rough, pain-filled weekend. So, imagine my surprise and complete upsetment to find that the pain practice to which I had been referred had closed an entire year ago. So, I called the other number on the discharge page, the one for Emory Health Connection. They matched me with a pain management provider in my general vicinity. I was able to speak with someone initially during my first call but, after I had to get some information from my insurance company and call the representative back, AFTER ALMOST TWO HOURS of hold time and calling different numbers, I could get NO ONE on the phone to help me or make an appointment. So I called St. Joe's ER to make them aware that they had given me a bogus referral. The secretary was non-plussed. After putting me on hold, she came back to say that the practice was, indeed, closed for outpatient care, but was functioning for inpatient care only. She didn't understand or care how that information wasn't going to do me any good, so I tried to impress upon her to try to tell SOMEONE not to make that referral for other patients in the future. That will never happen. And my pain continues to escalate.

From the first time I entered the front doors, I knew this hospital was a step above any other facility I had been treated in before. Every single person I met was sincerely interested in how they could help me. Doctors were thorough and not rushed, but took their time, answered all our questions and did what they promised. I am proud this hospital is in my community!

Take it from someone who knows. Alter 27 surgeries at 7 Atlanta hospitales this one is by far the best. The care and doctors are top rate. My Mom is currently here with cancer and I couldn't ask for better care. I had her transferred here after a terrible experience at North Fulton. Within hours of arrival at St Joseph the staff of doctors got together and came up with a plan of action. The nurses have been just the best, like family.
