The phrase "lipstick on a pig" comes to mind when I think about this hotel. The updates to the hotel were purely cheap cosmetic "upgrades". Our experience was so poor that we checked out the same night that we checked in. The walls are thin as paper. We could hear everything in the hallway and the rooms surrounding us. The room was small and cramped. The doors and trim work were pealing and the carpet was deteriorating. The staff was excellent though. They were very attentive and understanding to our desire to leave. But as we were there to relax and sleep and not to socialize with the employees, this Hotel earns the lowest rating I could give.
I stayed here for a few nights. It is centrally located in the Riverwalk area. I had a slight problem that was rapidly addressed and later taken care of. I can only say that the staff there is very coherent of the lodger's needs and the facility has amenities such as fitness center and pool area that make staying there a pleasant experience. The HR manager was of the utmost help and I want the higher UPS to know that they have a gem in their midst.
DO NOT BOOK ROOM 355. It is directly across from the ballroom that has blaring music until midnight. There is no drowning it out. I am pregnant and just want to sleep! They won't change our room either. I am so disappointed. This makes me want to leave right now.
EDITED TO ADD:
Room was not cleaned very well. Hair in the shower. Hotel is in major need of renovations. Pillows need to be replaced as they are very lumpy. Valet takes longer than the time they tell you. Housekeeping did not even attempt to stop by our room in the morning, nor did they drop by while we were out for approximately 10 hours. We had to go to the front desk and ask for towels so we could shower. Disappointing. Mildew in room.
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around
I was woken up by the slams of room doors in the morning. Don't be taller than 6'2" or you'll have to duck while walking in your room. Bed is somewhat worn (has that sinking in the middle problem). Had to put the tourist magazine in the a/c to hush the annoying somewhat loud noise it made while running . Sitting on the toilet is awkward especially if you're larger than average body size. View out the window isn't the best on riverside 3rd floor with the palm trees obstructing the view. Nice friendly staff and good customer service.
This hotel was a blast from the past. Very cute hotel ,the lobby is bright and inviting and located right on the river walk. (However it's about a 10 min walk to the shops and restaurants on the river walk). Pool was really nice it lights up at night with all these fun colors. They have some birds in the lobby and a big macaw enclosure with a turtle as well. We had a room with two Queens right at the pool level. It was nice with a gate that enclosed the "patio" from the pool. M ice especially if you have kids. The rooms had a microwave and a mini fridge. Parking was extra $16 a night and breakfast buffet for 10 a person kids under 5 I believe eat free. They had hot and cold food. Oatmeal bar, eggs, bacon,French toast, cereal, nachos, fruit. We would stay again, they have some good deals on there website.
Great location on the Riverwalk. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was a little small; two full size beds took up most of the space. Interior hallways were a bit dreary. The hotel is a little older and some of it shows. The breakfast buffet was very good and offered a variety of options.
Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Staff was very helpful. Elevators were a little scary. I was there for Alamo City Furry Invasion.
Everyone was very nice and inviting. Loved the toucan! Could do with more parking but I had a wonderful stay!
Was only previewing the facilities for a business meeting, but the space was pleasant. Very Sixties in atmosphere but no complaints if you like that vibe. Layout is typical for an older hotel, with few large rooms. Only complaint I have is that the front driveway is impossible to move through, four or five cars can block it completely and by extension restrict access to the garage. Bad planning which couldn't have made sense even in the 60s.
Very nice classy place. Staff was very nice and helpful. Nice clean rooms some viewing San Antonio's Downtown area and others viewing the pool. There's a nice workout and exercise gym. Also access to Riverwalk rite out the door. Great place to stay.
Great place. Clean spacious rooms. Wonderful staff and great location. We have stayed twice and loved it each time. Kids love the pool and enjoy watching the different birds in the lobby. Big workout area. Will go back.
This is definitely an old classic hotel but that's what makes it so special. Service was excellent and the rooms are really nice and seem like they were recently renovated. Unique design to the building and property and the pool area makes you feel like you are in some classic movie. Absolutely live this place!
My husband and I came here from Austin for 2 nights and were very happy with our stay. We loved that it was very close (about a 10 minute walk) from the downtown area. Even though it is on the River Walk, it's still about the same distance to the heart of the Walk. The beds were comfortable and we weren't bothered by any noise, very peaceful. We would definitely stay here again!
Way better than I was expecting!
At first glance, the hotel looks a little dated. At the front desk, the service was fantastic. Upon entering the room, I was pleasantly surprised that the decor was modern and the room was very clean.
Although this hotel is not right in the thick of things, it is on the river walk. It's about a half mile walk to where the action is happening, but it's a very pleasant and relaxing walk.
For all the positives, there are a few downfalls. All the ice machines were broken, so I had to call for ice or go down and get it from the bar. The elevators could for sure use some upkeep, and there wasn't a hot tub.
All in all, if I visit San Antonio again, I would absolutely stay here.
This has been by far the best hotel. Super friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds and pillows. Roomy bathrooms. Very clean. This hotel used to be a bank. Charming decor and beautiful architecture. Free breakfast, dinner, free popcorn and three free drinks per night. Two rooftop hot tubs and a rooftop heated pool. Outdoor rooftop patio overlooking the city with nice furniture. I honestly couldn't ask for more. Ten short minute walk to river walk where everything is there. I definitely recommend this hotel.
