This is an upscale Mexican restaurant downtown. There is no parking lot and we had to park on the street two blocks away. We went on a Friday night around 6:00. They do not take reservations and the wait was 45 minutes, but once we were seated the service was very fast and friendly. The food was very good and worth the wait.

Good food and vibrant atmosphere. Server was excellent and accommodated party of nine with aplomb. We started with chips and salsa which was tasty and kept replenished at all times by the service staff. The queso was excellent and a favorite of everyone.
I had the meat loaf which was okay; my wife had a salad that she raved about, and one friend rated the chicken enchiladas especially favorably. No one was disappointed.response / report this review -

Husband and I ate here. I got the special for $17.00. It was good, but not $17.00 good. The place is a 20-something crowd, dark and loud. Not real crazy about that part either..but we are just one couple. It's a great scene for younger folks and we are a little older. The employees are very nice and helpful :)

El Barrio is a local favorite for good reason. It's food and service are always as it should be. This was my first time trying the brunch menu, and my table had a bit of everything from it. I would recommend the AM burrito with a cup of coffee.

Great ambiance. Delicious food and margaritas (fresh veggies, hearty portions). Affordable prices. Friendly staff. Sat us even though we arrived a couple of minutes after brunch ended. Will definitely come back, can't wait to try the dinner.

This was the best place ever. Wonderful atmosphere, awesome waitress and the best food I have ever eaten. When I come back to Birmingham I will definitely come back!!!

Delicious modern Mexican food. The pork with green posole and the Mexican meatloaf are my favorite things on the menu. Service is always quick and the atmosphere is great.
Pro Tip: Pay attention to where you park as there are (not always well marked) pay lots very close that will tow if you don't pay..response / report this review -

Although the bartender could use some go-to order help during the day, the service was great and the food was amazing! Super flavorful, yet different combinations that I never would have imagined to combine.

First time there, celebrating my wife's bday. The atmosphere was relaxed , the food was excellent from presentation to taste. Our server was Angela, she was very attentive but not overbearing. We even made some new friends. We will definitely be back.

We arrived early to avoid any rush. Valet parking. A pleasant welcome especially as we had a three year old with us, direction to our table and introduction to the menu. An obvious understanding of the menu and descriptive answers to our questions regarding the menu. Prompt service. Attention to detail. Would thoroughly recommend. Looking forward to eating in the main restaurant on my next visit.

Excellent food and drinks. The unique seasonal guacamole has pleasantly surprised me several times. The margaritas are wonderful and the food is well prepared. The service has been slow at times, and every time I have been there has been a long wait. The food has always been worth the wait.

I loveeee this place! It's my favorite restaurant in the Birmingham area and I frequent it for lunch, dinner and brunch. It's a great example of how Tex-Mex Cuisine should be done. Be prepared to wait, because it's a very popular place around here. If you do have a significant wait, walk on down to Collins Bar and have a drink or two. They'll text or call you when your table is ready. If you would rather not leave, just grab a drink at the bar and order an app while you wait. Everything on the menu is great but feel free to ask your server what they prefer!

Since recently moving to Birmingham, I had heard so many wonderful things about Highlands Bar & Grill. I made a reservation for my husband and me and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed cocktails and baked Blue Point oysters as starters. The homemade tonic with gin was outstanding.

Outstanding hotel. Great location. Spotless clean. Welcoming staff. The entire team was great. Really go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Restaurant and cafe are also good. It's all I could ask for in a hotel for a business trip.
