I want to like this place and I've only been a couple of times but the vendors haven't been v helpful or friendly either time. I think if I lived close by and made this my regular place for meats, pasta, veg etc I would appreciate it more.
Farmers market on Saturdays on the exterior of the market plus dozens of permanent stalls featuring fresh flowers, cut to order meat and fish, and farm fresh veggies. The lunch counter on the North end of the market building is not to be missed. Try the buckwheat pancakes.
Large market with many vendors all year round- antiques, maps, clothing, jewelry, and produce straight from the farm. Indoor and outdoor section with plenty to explore. Good place to bring with friends and families visiting. Lots of restaurants close-by as well.
Been coming here for over 25 years. A wonderful touch of old style, friendly service just blocks from the Capitol. Great quality. Lots of locally-sourced goods.
This open market is small, but nice. It's a nice distraction from visiting museums and monuments. It is located near the museums so you could certainly do both in the same day. It is, however, not on the same level as open European markets.
Love this place. Various vendors with many interesting artifacts. Food at market is good and street is filled with lots of fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers. Plus, there are many restaurants along the sides of the road where open market is going on. Enjoyed the random musicians playing different instruments as well.
There are a bunch of shops here offering fresh fish, meats, cheeses, pastas, baked goods, and even a few items that are ready to eat. It's a fun place to check out. However, I would recommend coming on weekends when the outdoor market is also open. There's a lot more to due/peruse then.
Wish I had resources to keep going. Overwhelmed by many Choices, availability wonderful produce more at a better price. Art many things you want for yourself are home. Cooking show by a famous Chef and his own cook books by famous Chef. And much more in That area. Restaurants, game stores
Locals know to come here for their meats, cheeses, and fresh pastas. In from out of town and have a kitchen? The EM vendors are great, have been here for years and will add to your 'local' experience of DC. Try fresh pastas (including the dessert chocolate ravioli) from the EM pasta counter; excellent cheese counter - taste before you buy; and great butcher and veggie counter.
Eastern Market Lunch Counter has fantastic breakfast/brunch. Super casual. The line looks intimidating but moves pretty quickly. Arts, vendors, farmers market outside on Sat & Sun.
We bought fresh fish at Southern Maryland seafood, $70.oo worth and all 3 items were very fresh. We bought a multi fruit pie and garlic bread also excellent! We went back today and bought vegetables and rib steaks! Can't wait to grill them! They looked great!
I love to go to Eastern Market. The vendors are great. All types of unique finds. Fresh produce, flowers and food to eat. Being going there for over 30 years
Hands down 'the' farmers market of DC. It's been in operation for over 100 years, survived two fires, and is still going strong. Many of the vendors are family owned and local, and it's still the best place to go on the weekend for that farmers market experience. Lots of stalls, tons of vendors selling literally almost everything you can think of, and great food options.
This is nowhere near as big or diverse as Cleveland's West Side Market. A few places to buy food, but nowhere comfortable to sit to eat it. We bought lunch and snacks from one vendor and she wasn't particularly friendly. The neighborhood however is great, with lots of places where we could have (and should have) had a nice lunch.
