I have never in my life have experienced issues like I have had at duke on the 6th floor. In ortho. First off I tell them I am allergic to things and they still use it and they are making me take meds that I told them I refused to take.and the biggest thing is I have laid here with a dislocated hip before for hrs and they would hardly give me pain meds at all. They even won't give me what I am suppose to be on. When I got out of surgery I was only give. A .54 mg of pain meds every 4 hrs. I also reported a nurse making fun of me because of the way I was talking. And then she covered it up bye trying to say she found pain meds on me when I hadn't had any that morning. Her name is sasha. I have never in my life been so disrespected in my life. And the ortho resident called a family member of mine without my knowledge or approval. I am in so much pain and I can't get nothing hardly. Not even getting what I am supposed to be getting .. they don't care they want to send me home and I can't walk hardly. The physical therapist found a pill on the floor and told them it was mine. I'm sorry I didn't know you were not allowed to drop one even if it was mine. But they assumed. Guess I'm going home even though I can't take care of myself.. they sent psych Dr down here to see me cause I was mad due to them doing something wrong to me. They insisted on me getting these iv,s when my veins were blown. Now I have mrsa and they are trying to say I don't when another hospital said I did. i am done with these people. I am gonna try and get a lawyer

If you are very sick like my husband was, then by all means go to Duke. The doctors, nurses and all the staff are exceptional. I don't believe he would have survived had we not left another hospital and went to Duke. Everyone in the hospital was so kind and caring.

Staff is nice but ER is horrible. Waited 11 hours, they took blood but we left before results. After 11 hours and homeless people laying all over us we asks about results and we were told we were waiting on a room so they could tell me. I’ll get my regular dr to get them tomorrow. I’ll never go back there. Something has changed because it wasn’t like this 5 years ago

Upon check in, the man in registration was very pleasant and helpful. During my mom's surgery, the surgical waiting room staff was the best. I was so impressed. We were given a pager and notified every step from the first incision to meeting with the surgeon afterwards. The PACU in 7-west is state of the art with hard working knowledgeable caring (young) staff.
3300 heart unit staff were great people as well. Hospitals are for sick people. It is so important to have staff that have caring hearts.and I found them at Duke Medical Center Hospital.

It's a hospital. I've had a night nurse, while I was admitted, insert a latex catheter knowing I have a latex allergy, but the response from the other nurses and doctors and administration was good. They apologized, worried about me, were very patient, explained anything I asked about and stayed professional, courteous.

My oldest was also an ER patient while still a newborn. Yes the wait was long. But the staff nurses and doctors were kind, thorough and considerate.

My fiance has been here for almost 3 weeks and had sugary on his lung. The Staff, Dr's, Nurses, Specialists, everyone we have came in contact with has been amazing!! Everyone is super, friendly, helpful and take the time to explain what's going on thoroughly. Also very clean and sanitary. He has got amazing treatment from the minute we walked into the E.R. Best hospital I've had to deal with ever! I know if we have ANY issues in the future we will be taking the extra 45 min drive and coming here instead of going to the hospital in Roxboro!

I would give Duke a thousand stars if I could. The staff goes above and beyond for their patients and I've never been more supported or comfortable in any hospital. I wish I could do something to show my appreciation for everyone I've been privileged to be around, but from the bottom of my heart.thank you for everything 5th floor doctor's and nurses!

Don't be fooled by the "Duke" name. Worst ER I've ever been to. It's a training hospital. They found out my father had a serve blood clot after an ultra sound & still made him walk back to the waiting room for another hour. The ultra sound tech was really fast and only looked at his thigh to knee and stopped. He walked back to the waiting room and was called in the back to draw blood. He questioned the need for blood work and a doctor came out of a room to inform him he had a clot and sent him back out to the waiting room. We spent a total of 6 hours in the waiting room & the doctor called it "quick" after we finally got a room. I was dumbfounded. My father repeated his story to the nurses and doctors, multiple times who didn't take the time to look at his chart. Had him self inject the medicine and sent him home without consulting a specialist like they promised. My father has a long medical history with multiple surgeries in the last couple years. Dismissed my concerns and sent him on his way. We tried calling duke to have them provide a specialist referral to see a doctor where he lives in Seattle. Duke denied the referral request because the doctors are outside of their network. Take that into consideration if you plan on going to this ER, you will be denied a specialist referral unless your doctor is in their network. Update - after arriving home in Seattle, he immediately went to his hospital where they provided another ultra sound. The Seattle hospital was very thorough and did an ultra sound on both of his entire legs and his stomach & found the clot was from his hip all the way to his calf. Since Duke stopped at his knee, they only said it was in his thigh. Will never think about returning to Duke's ER.
