1 hour for a phlebotomist to remove blood from my 1 week old. Excruciating to watch, turned out she took so long that the sample was not longer good for testing. All the while telling us how good she was at her job. Went to Piedmont the following week for the same test and the lady there took less than 5 minutes. I will not be returning to this hospital. Even if on my death bed.

Had to take my oldest to the emergency room tonight. All the nurses were amazing and the physician's assistant doing his stitches was totally understanding when he freaked about the local anesthesia. She talked him thru it and answered all his questions. Thanks for taking care of my son!

Super frustrated with scheduled out patient surgery today. Told to be here well over an hour before we were even allowed to go back into a room. No receptionist was even in the outpatient center to greet us since they told us to get here so early. Just a total waste of our time! Also didn’t want to let anyone go back because there wasn’t much room even though there actually was plenty. Terrible experience, especially compared to Piedmont/ARMC. Hope to never come back here!

Saint Marys Estimated the procedure to cost $13700-$17,900. I was able to obtain from my insurance that Saint Marys was charging me for everything. The pillows on the bed,the scalpel, the kit used for the surgery, as if these items can’t be reused. For example the knife and camera to cut me with they were going to charge me $6000. Given that my share of the surgery is 10% they wanted $1370.
After speaking with my insurance I discovered that the hospital has a $5000 cap for the procedure. This means that St. Mary inflates the price well above the contracted rate so they can bill me my maximum out of pocket cost of $1790 but then only bill the insurance $5000. Meaning the hospital gets $6790 instead of $5500. Anesthesia would’ve been an additional bill.
The surgery center of Athens is charging $1450 for the facilities. This means my out-of-pocket cost is $145. I also confirmed that number with my insurance.
So surgery center of Athens is $1645 cheaper for me than Saint Marys.
This type of billing scam should be illegal.response / report this review -

If someone has an emergency, they go to he emergency room. One should not have to wait over 3 hours to see whether or not their condition is life threatening

We had to make a trip to the ER on a Sunday evening, and all of the staff, nurses, and physicians assistants were amazing. Polite, responsive, and they knew exactly what to do. I am very glad our community has a hospital like St. Mary's to turn to.

Was transferred to the hospital from Lavonia with chest pain and pressure. Nursing staff was wonderful, but doctor assigned to the case was AWFUL! Left next days after countless EKG's, blood worth, heart catherization, and iodine CT scan with no update, no plan, no medication prescribed. Felt like Doctor brushed us out. Dread the bill, because I am being billed, and no solution to health issue.

My wife just delivered our first child at St. Mary's. From the birthing classes to inducement to delivery and recovery to lactation consultation, the staff was absolutely unbelievable. They continuously kept us calm, confident, and comfortable. They earned my complete trust with our child and we cannot thank them enough.

Last weekend my mother in law was on the ICU floor, there were 2 nurses working and talking very loud about politics and other things that were not appropriate to talk about at work. It was very uncomfortable to listen to, my family was making arrangements for her to be moved to another facility. The other nurses and secretary was very helpful and caring.
As long as they are working at St Mary's, I will not be a patient.response / report this review -

Yesterday my husband was injured badly, I thought the best place to take him would be St. Mary's because they've always taken great care of my family in the past with any of our urgent needs. I had to wheelchair my husband into the ER, and he was triaged and put into a room quickly. So far,so good! After waiting 20 minutes,a nurse practitioner came to access my husband. He could barely stand, could barely walk and tearing up in pain. I thought for sure they would treat his pain,and make him comfortable before moving him to do any testing he might need,but they didn't help him at all. The nurse gave my husband a steroid shot,that made him break out in hives, sent him for x-rays, and when he came back from getting x-rays, he painfully waited for the nurse to give him the news that his spine looked good. What a relief right? So wrong! They sent my husband home in a great amount of pain,with nothing to ease his suffering. Only Prednisone,which didn't help,and a muscle relaxer that only broke him out in more hives. The practitioner wrote the medication knowing it would break him out because we both stressed to her bad break outs of hives in the past. The practitioner treated my husband like a drug seeker, when I can't remember the last time the man had a pain pill. His condition was not chronic, so they're was no reason for them not to treat his pain and suffering. I am truly appalled by this hospital now. if this nurse practitioner is reading this,you took a oath to do no harm,well, my poor husband lying in bed right now, who's in so much pain he can't even sneeze says otherwise. You work at a Catholic hospital, and you completely lack compassion and understanding,no bedside manner at all! I wouldn't bring my sick dog into see you! Thank you for judging​ us, and I would say thank you for the amount of pain and stress you've put my husband and family through, but apparently crying in pain and begging for relief doesn't affect you. May God forgive your harshness and cruelty because I sure as hell don't! There was no reason to act the way you did,your an embarrassment to your profession and should be fired!

If you come in for complications or anything related to a chronic condition/pain they will tell you they don't deal with that, no matter how bad your pain is. They're good with acute problems, though. I've had a few ruptured ovarian cysts and each time the nurses were sweet and I was dealt with quickly. But it really depends on what doctor you get. There are some who treat anyone in pain as though they're suspicious and probably there to get high. In my opinion it's more ethical to treat everyone as though they're pain is real instead of punishing the 9 people in real pain because of the 1 person who was looking for a fix. It's inhumane to give people no relief, then send them home to be in more pain. I've thought about making a report about one doctor in particular. It's awful being treated like you're mental or a junkie. I get that the doctors can become cynical, but it's better to treat everyone well. Err on the side of kindness and treatment.
