I have been a patron of Dewey's Bakery for over 30 years, and have always been pleased with their products. But my last experience with them left a "nasty taste" in my mouth. I ordered a coconut cake which I picked up early Sat 12/23. I was given the cake in a short box (this was a 3 later cake) with no lid or cover to the box. In other words I was expected to take my cake (which I paid over $70 for) uncovered, out into the elements ( it was a little windy) so that anything (leaf, bug, etc) could land on my cake. I had several stops to make before going home. The thought of me having this cake in the car uncovered was a little unsettling to me. When I enquired about not having a cover I was told that they don't cover these cakes. I was told that they could "build up" a top but it might mess up the icing. I really didn't care. I wanted my cake covered. The person who handed me the cake walked away. Some plastic wrap would have been better than nothing. I had to go elswhere to get foil to wrap my cake. I think the fact that no one seemed to be concerned with my concerns or even make an effort to help me made me not want to come back to Dewey's. In the future, I certainly will not order a whole cake from here unless they are delivering it directly to me. This was just UNBELIEVABLE!!!

My mouth is watering! The morning buns, quichesbasically ANYthing they sell is fantastic. Best Croque Monsieur ever. But be patient, and expect to wait in line at least 15 minutes. Tables are tight, so may want to take it to go and eat on the lawn 1 block east at the Mission Playground park.

Went in one day for sugar cake and immediately could tell it had been frozen. Sugar Cake is supposed to be fresh made as i always got back in the 90s and Early 00's. Use to love you guys.

If you love sweets then this is the place for you! I gotten a birthday cake from here virtually every year since 1980. I also love the sugar cake and the hot cross buns at Easter time. Yum!!!

Went to pick out cake squares on 7/2 and immediately left because flies were buzzing around the cakes inside the case. Also heard employees talking about how they had lost an order. Disappointed.

My family has loved Dewey's since I was a very little girl and I'm not far from 50 years old now. Unfortunately, there is a hispanic/american young lady who works in both locations who makes us just want to turn around and go home. There should be a rule that you have to have a sweet personality and a smile in order to work in a bakery, lol. I am on my way to the bakery right now and if I see her this time I am probably going to say something directly to her about her nasty attitude. If not, then to the manager on duty.

The cake is great. The customer service, not so much. I went in to pick up a prepaid cake on a Saturday night well before closing. The line was long with 2 ladies working hard to serve the customers while another was sweeping and wiping tables almost before customers were walking away from them. I asked her if she could get my order and she directed me to the long line of people musing over cupcakes. No one could have ice cream because they'd closed it down. It was 30 minutes to closing! How about serving until close and then cleaning up?

We love to stop by for the cake squares and ice cream. The chocolate is hard to beat.

My kids like the pink lemonade cake and pink lemonade ice cream.

They also have a nice selection of unique gifts.

I love their baked goods. No problem there. But their customer service is hit or miss. There are a lot of birthdays this week so I went in on Monday to grab some cake squares for a coworker. The woman who assisted me was pleasant and helpful. Went back on Thursday to get a cupcake for a friend and order my mother's birthday cake for the following day and the young lady that served me was unhelpful and rude. If you advertise you can do simple custom cakes with 12 hours notice, then I want the cake that I want. Don't advertise that you have a variety of frostings then rudely tell your customers "No. We can only do chocolate or vanilla". I also didn't appreciate being made to feel stupid for incorrectly naming the flavor of cupcake I wanted.

The only reason I didn't say "No thank you" and leave is because I like to support local businesses, Dewey's cakes are fabulous, and I was already there. But if you can't deliver on what you advertise AND you don't make your customers feel welcome, then I will go elsewhere. Publix cakes are still pretty good.

Unfortunately after recounting my experience there to friends, I heard several other terrible customer service stories. Good product will only get you so far for so long.
