The congregation is extremely friendly but the Rabbi can make visitors feel very unwelcome.

I am sorry about that pepe neva. That is very rude and bs for them to that. It's likely the more conservative ones who want it to a super private place just for jews all the time and who care little about anyone else. This is wrong is not even a Jewish value and on top of that I don't think it represents everyone there as a whole. This seems to be a pretty decent synaguage from when I went for a service there and heard the speeches. Please disregard This and I hope mayb they will reconsider giving you bs just for playing basketball. It saddens me "gods chosen ones" treat pol this way. And is why I've become very atheistic. Shalom.

Many of my friends and I have been playing basketball at this location, during the evening when no one is there, for many years now. Someone new is now running this place and we are no longer allowed to play here after many years. Their excuse was that it is "disrespectful". Absurd excuse.

Right next door to Beth-El, Congregation Ahavath Sholom is another great option for those leaning more conservative. Camp Shalom is a wonderful event that I participated in as a kid, and the sanctuary is gorgeous. They play host to many big, community-wide events and should be worth a look!
