As an amateur history buff, this place is awesome for details on the battle for Chickamauga during the Civil War. There are monuments and plaques all over the fields and interspersed along wooded trails. You can take a guided, or unguided tour, by car, hiking, or even on horseback. One of my favorite places to visit is Wilder Tower.

Me and my husband went last year for our 1st anniversary to the battlefields because he and I are civil war reenactors and he had been before and knew I would love how beautiful it is. He was completely right. The forest there is breath taking and the historical audio tour is so informative and really helps you understand the history of what is now my favorite place. The staff are also so friendly. If you have the chance, go. It's the trip of a life time if you love both beautiful old woods and/or history.

Very nice spot atop Lookout Mountain. Great for stretching your legs on a road trip. A self-pay machine is near the park entrance. The park isn't very large, but offers lots of shade during the summer.

Another fantastic historical site. Go to the visitor center first, talk to the guides and watch the movie. Then stay the trip. Bring your walking shoes and plan on hiking into the woods to see the real locations where action from the movie happened. Tough to take I all in one day so is you have a few days, pick a few skirmishes per day then "deep dive" into those each day. Guided tour by cell phone was not very helpful so read up on the history before going It will make it so much more meaningful.

A fantastic Civil War historical park. Excellent visitors center with great displays and an amazing rifle collection. The video presentation sets a great tone of what happened here. I opted for a cell phone self guided tour. You drive from spot to spot and dial in the tour stop number and you listen to great explanations of events as you are standing right on the ground where it happened. Amazing and humbling.

The place is on the right track. Room was decent, the grounds were absolutely beautiful and had alot to offer with entertainment. The feeling with all of the trains around is awesome. Train car rooms need some updating, was very musty.

Lee is a great tour ranger. He is able to convey the facts in a very enjoyable manner. The gun collection is amazing. This park is definitely worth a visit.

Great place to learn about our history. Love to ride through in the evening to spot deer. Very well kept. Great trails to walk or run on. Picnic areas.

My review focuses on the visitor center. The rangers are friendly and knowledgeable. The movie overview provided historical context for the park, along with many of the exhibits. The highlight for civil war buffs will be the firearm collection. They do have many good examples of artillery pieces on the grounds.

How wonderfully they keep the cemetery!! I was impressed with the staff and their willingness to use their own resources to efficiently and quickly locate my loved one's grave. Great experience.

The grounds are beautiful. The civil war history there is sobering. Go into the museum and see an amazing very large collection of unique rare firearms. Tour the grounds and take in the rich history. If you can arrive early and see the fog roll across the battlegrounds it's breath taking.

My wife and i love a good historical site, especially one that deals with the civil war. LOTS to see and beautiful views and tons of plaques explaining what happened and where. A must see for anyone interested in history and offering gorgeous views. Only $5 per person to enter. Well worth it, and your admission lasts all day, so you can come back later if you dont have time to see everything.

Awesome park and history. The trails are great as is the park itself. We did the self tour using the cellphone call-in stops, very cool and informative. Definitely recommend stopping. We planned to spend 2 hours just checking out the historical stops and spent about 5 because there was far more to see than we thought! The trails were awesome, ran out of time to see most of them but really enjoyed what we got to explore.

I had never visited there before. It has a great variety of statues and buildings of the civil war. The site is beautiful and I particularly like that the tour is through your phone. You can just drive to the series of points of interest. Or you can get out and explore. And resume the phone tour at anytime.
