First time staying at a Hostel. Overall good experience. Nice clean room and bathroom, nice staff. Stayed in a room w four other people, three bunk beds. Didn't get the beds we were assigned (ok), but then the person bunking beneath me decided to have "quiet sex" at 4am, waking me up w the rocking (not ok) i had a 12 year old w me bunking across the room. I'm sure that wldnt happen all the time - so 4 stars!

Pros:
Great location in lower Manhattan and super closed to Chinatown. They have a small coffee bar at the first level. Walking distance to Sub B and D lines. Very convenient for short stays in the NYC.
Cons:
Only one elevator for the entire unit and it moves slowly. So you could end up of spending 5 min getting off from the top floor down to the lobby.
he room is not quite good at sound blocking. Its location indicates that the noise level is higher than average. Particularly for the NYC, a city that never sleeps and does not allow you to sleep, the noise could affect those who are sensitive to the environment while sleeping. It is a critical point that you need to consider before placing your order.
It seems to me that their room cards could likely to fail within a short period of time. My roommate was locked outside due to this issue the night I stayed there. And the next morning I went out to grab some breakfast and I was not able to open the door use my room card. I had to take the sluggish elevator to the lobby and get my card replaced. It will be great if they can increase the liability of their room cards.response / report this review -

Can't really review the hostel, because I never actually stayed there. My flight was delayed and I was stuck in China for a couple of hours. Couldn't contact them because I was on the plane. By the time I arrived at the hostel, jet lagged and exhausted, the girl at the counter told me that because I was less than 12hrs late, they had charged me and given my bed to someone else. So here I was in NY, homeless, late at night, with no way of contacting anyone. The desk lady was unsympathetic. Tried to get me to book a room in one of their affiliated hotels (for ridiculous prices, which as a student I could NOT afford), or to make another booking with them in two days time.
Needless to say I used their wifi to book myself into The Local Hostel NYC. Who had exceptional, caring staff and the comfiest beds. And after spending $150 more than I needed to, I found my favourite hostel in NYC.
Also the lobby had a strong smell of feet, with no shoes in sight. Gross.response / report this review -

The location of this hotel is perfect, the interior is gorgeous but the rest is mediocre. The desk staff is inexperienced and one girl in particular is downright rude. They lack punctuality, patience and most of the staff has limited English skills which makes communication difficult. On to the rooms. There are certain fixes that could make this a better hostel. The mixed gender rooms need curtains around the beds for privacy. The hairy male guests I had the displeasure of staying with liked to sleep in their underpants, they also snored and farted the most obnoxiously stinky farts. Curtains would have helped with many of these issues. Also small fans for personal use to check out at the desk would have been helpful. One of my roomies apparently was visiting New York from the 7th level of hell and liked the room to be a boiling 80 degrees in order to sleep and rudely turned off the air conditioner every time I tried to use it. Hot room plus farts equals one unhappy lady. I would have paid my right arm for a fan. Locks on the bathroom door! This should be a an obvious addition to any mixed gender room. Some small thoughtful changes to help people sleep and bathe better and more safely in the company of strangers would do wonders for this hostel and bring it up to the four stars it claims to be. Overall this place needs to think more about their guests experiences instead of their aesthetic. A beautiful building does not a great hotel make. That comes with service.

This s the best boutique hotel i ever stayed . This Hotel have in one part of the building all private rooms and other part of the building share dorm rooms . The most of those bad reviews comes from people who booking 1 bed in 6 bed share dorm room and thinking and expecting somebody will give them a private room , when share dorm room clearly states "One Bed in 6 Bed Mixed Dormitory Share Dorm Room ". Well , paying $50 for share dorm room and expect you going to get whole private room 500 Sq Feet for yourself in the middle of Manhattan is crazy.
I believe a share dorm rooms a very cheap for what you get : clean sheets , towels, blankets that getting changed every single day , comfortable beds , large rooms with big terrace and big balcony, wonderful view and great stuff !!

I stayed in a 6-person female room for 4 days in August 2017. My friend booked this for us and I was very weary once I started reading the reviews for the hotel. Many reviews said that the sheets and towels weren't cleaned and had blood stains and other unknown stains on them. This was not the case for my experience. My sheets and towels were exchanged/cleaned every day with a nicely laid bed. The shower was nice and the overall hotel was a lot cleaner and nicer than I expected based on the reviews. The staff was very friendly throughout all of my interactions with them. Next time, if I could find a similar price on Airbnb then I would, just for more privacy, but if I couldn't find a similar price (~$60/night), then I'll happily book this same hotel. The hotel is near two subway stops and at least 1 bus stop. Hope this helps!

It's a good hostel for cheap. A lot of the recent reviews left me feeling uneasy about it. Front desk may not have the absolutely best costumer service but they are nice and seem to want to help. I do have to get my key reactivated every day but it only takes a moment and for $60 a night it's not to big of a deal. Not saying the recent people didn't have bad experiences but they were most likely one offs. All of the people I stayed with, Around 8, everyone seemed rather happy about the place. And it is a good location.

Terrible! Abort! RUN RUN AWAY!- always book guests in the wrong beds/rooms then abruptly wake them up in the middle of the night and tell them they have to move! and make you wait three hours for them to figure out the room placement again! And if you are a female in your private night clothes, this will be done by a rough male. What on earth kind of a place! This is preposterous! Horrible, rude, incompetent, sketchy and inconsiderate staff who make so many mistakes then behave as though it was your fault. Should owe so many refunds to guests they have wronged, also they charge 50 plus tax for a late check out fee. Don't stay here! Annoying atrocious, horrendous experience due to very bad management, staffing and customer service is obsolete. Try the Bowery House or HI Hosteling NY.

We stayed with a friend of my girlfriend for a night. He was staying for a few nights. The room was fine, clean but older carpet. Not sure what the cost of the room was so I can't comment on the value. Bathroom was nice and water pressure was good like most places I've stayed in Manhattan.

It's a cute boutique hotel. That's only about it. I stayed here for two nights a couple of years ago. After my first night and when I came back late, I found the cleaning folks threw away my stuff. So I talked to the mgr of the hotel next morning who told me that they were lost and there was nothing they could do about it, rather unapologetically -- as if it were my fault. Quite amazing.

Horrible customer service. On our first night there, our key got deactivated and when we went to the desk for a new one, the woman working at the desk "could not find" any keys. I'm not sure how that is possible
To top it off, I left an expensive item at this hotel and realized it immediately after boarding my plane back to Boston at which time I called the hotel and was told they didn't have my item. I had to call back 3 separate times in order for them to tell me they did indeed have it. They then refused to ship the item to me and said I could pick it up in person (clearly I do not live in the area or I would not be staying at a hotel..) until I offered to pay for the shipping. 10 days later and they still have not shipped out my package which I already paid shipping on. Front desk reps are argumentative and not helpful and managers are impossible to reach. I would avoid this hotel because if you run into any issues, they certainly will not help you.response / report this review -

Clean room for a good price. The "$2 an hour self parking" just means find street parking if you can Other than that it's fine
