I love this place! I was there taking engagement photos. It is free! They have different sections of gardens including the rose garden, Japanese garden, Alabama wildflowers, and a greenhouse full of fruit trees and succulents.
Twice a year they open the tea house in the Japanese garden and anyone can go in and get tea.
Please give a donation! It's amazing that such a wonderful place is free. There is a donation box where you can drop in a couple dollars or whatever you feel like. Putting in $1-5 in the donation box is a steal for the immaculate garden experience.response / report this review -

Great place to relax and take in nature. My family and I did our Christmas photos here and were able to get some really good photos with beautiful trees and flowers as the backdrop. Will definitely go back in the spring to see everything in bloom! Highly recommend bring the whole family.

It's a beautiful place, even in January, with great walks and lots to see. There is a variety of attractions. Including small lakes, woodlands and ornamental gardens. Very clean and well maintained. Most footpaths are suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, etc.

The Botanical gardens is free to the general public and provides a lovely place to walk through and enjoy nature, relax on your lunch break, or educate yourself on native species. The main building houses a branch of the Jefferson County library but focuses mainly on gardening resources. However there is free WiFi so it makes for a nice place to sit and study.

Fantastic public, no cost gardens!!! Awesome gift store with healthy large and small plants, and all things related. The gardens are divided, on many paths. Some are surfaced, most are mulched. Wheelchairs were on the paths pushed be accompanying adults. Children were having a grand time playing.

One of the treasures of Birmingham. We go here with our children, I often walk around at lunch (I work nearby) and just love it. And best of all it's free! Great little garden shop and restaurant as well.

Beautiful collection of gardens. Featured Gardens include a Japanese garden, a wildflower Garden, a vegetable garden, a water lily area, hey beautiful beautiful rose garden. The greenhouse areas are filled with tropical plants a cacti and succulents of thousands varieties.
The Landscaping makes the parking areas looks very inviting and comfortable. The walking areas are wide and gently sloping. The library includes mini books on different Garden needs including books on trees, wildflowers, weed control and a variety of other subjects all plant related.
Whether at a catered event or just going to visit you need to try the restaurant at the gardens. The food is delicious and service is very good because of a very attentive staff.
In summation, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a jewel within the Birmingham Park and Recreation family. It is right across the street from the Birmingham Zoo. It is located in the Mountain Brook area. The only nice hotels an additional restaurants in the area. The gardens offer something for everyone in the family.response / report this review -

Great spot for a romantic daytime date. Sure, it could be better but it couldn't be cheaper. The BBG store is entertaining in itself. The library is an excellent horticultural resource. Rose garden is best around May. Both desert and tropical habitats available in greenhouse. Ample free parking.

Attended a wedding here. Great spot for such an event. Beautiful gardens and dance hall. Love love loved the permaculture information inside. Wonderful place, wish we had more time to explore!

Great location for visitors to Birmingham as well as residents of the area. It's beautiful, family friendly, safe, and plenty of walking trails. It also has a greenhouse with a wide variety of plants. It's one of my favorite places to visit in the Birmingham area.

Very impressed by the botanical gardens here, especially the Japanese garden. We visited during Memorial Day, which I was surprised the park to be open. I don't know if the park is normally free, or if it was free because of the holiday, but definitely worth going back to again.

The name spells it out. Marvelous variety of plants; trees, shrubs, flowers, and otherwise. Bathrooms and a cafe on the premises as well. Fun experience with the wife and kid also a great place to take photos.

I'm sure this place is gorgeous at certain times of the year. If you want a place for a nice Sunday stroll it's great. The Japanese garden made it worth the trip.
