The staff was helpful in navigating Amsterdam and very friendly in recommending hot spots. The location is on the outskirts of the city centre but close to trams and easy for cabbies to find. Room was spartan and clean - exactly what is promised.

Nice location, close to Amsterdam centre. Breakfast should be renamed to just 'bread' no toaster, limited plugs in the room so had to stand in hallway to charge phone. Bathroom tiny but not terrible, staff were friendly enough.

Lambert at the receptionist was great! Wonderful customer service, however my husband got bed bugs. Don't sleep on the upper bed in room 15!

Not a recommended hostel. Rude staff!!!

We stayed for 3 nights in a 14-bedroom room. We met 3 receptionist. 2 of them were rude to us. When we checked in, we gave the receptionist our name and even a printout of our booking, but he refused to look at it, instead he asked a funny question "When did you book it?". How could we remember at such detail like this? He could just look at the booking number or the details on our printout.

When we checked out, we understand that we cannot keep our luggage at the hostel if that's the rule. We are cool with it. But the receptionist could have say it a lot much nicer and friendly. We dont know what his problem was.

And we also kept getting the question of "Do you understand?" although we understand what they were saying and able to reply them perfectly. We are not dum*.

Seriously, this hostel's receptionists need to be a lot friendlier, cause we were very disappointed with the way they were talking to us.

Don't expect muchstaff was nice, but only thatthis hostels gives only the minimum, it's obvious no love and no effort is invested in it..not clean, wifi wasn't working on any of our phones, beds are so small that you can't turn around (even if you're thin), like if they were brought from prison when prisoners got decent ones, and that's the only thing you have in the room besides one chair, there's no lockers, not even shelf to put your stuff on). In the bathroom you don't have a single hanger so you should figure out where to put your clothes and towel while showering (I mean, come on, how difficult could it be to put a hanger in a bathroom and how much can one cost?)..And the breakfast is very basic (only coffee with white bread and jam, no tea, not even the simplest cereals, no milk besides coffee milk..)..

I paid around £800 for 4of us in a 4man room. Room had no ventilation or window.very basic and could be a lot cleaner.
When we arrived and wanted to check in they asked us to wait downstairs for a half hour, which was a bit annoying but fine. On the Sunday morning we checked out and as we were Ten minutes late they refused to give me our €20 euro key deposit. I thought that was well out of order and I would not ever stay there again or recommend anyone to stay there. Much nicer and cheaper places in Amsterdam.

The staff were kind and friendly, especially the owner (a cute cat named Nico, I believe). My only qualm was for 50€ a night I got a tiny bed very close to the ceiling and only bread with some spreads for breakfast. Otherwise, nice people and atmosphere.

Small but with a great kitchen and staff. People there are so energetic and welcoming. A good recommendation for a small trip to Amsterdam.

Had a terrible experience at this hotel. First there were renovations going on and they came into my room with a second key while I was sleeping. I wanted to prolong my stay with one night and the receptionist became very strange and hostile. He literally pushed me out the door and I had to call the police. They said this wasnt the first time they had to come to the hotel. Absolutely horrible hotel!!

What can I say about this hostel? It's great value for the price and the staff are really cool. However, I had a really bad experience with the manager here. I planned to extend my stay here after being quoted a price that was reasonable and would let me afford to stay a few more nights in Amsterdam and book a flight home also. I was woken up the next day by the guy who took my booking telling me he made a mistake with the price and that I should go and see the manager. I thought 'fair enough, will see what the story is'. I go to the manager and that's when things turned sour. Seemed like a nice guy to talk to but he wasn't afraid to make it completely transparent that he was the boss. He told me I was undercharged for the room and that I would need to pay more. I began to explain that I only extended my stay based on the price so I could afford both the room and the flight home. He cut me off before I could finish and repeated that I would have to pay more. Thinking he didn't understand me I began again, emphasising that I could not afford to pay any more and would not have a place to sleep on the last night if I could not stay there. I was clearly frustrated by the situation and he had the gall to tell me he was trying to help me here. We had a similar back and forth reiterating our points then he just says 'ok pack your things and leave. I have to worry about the security of myself'. Believe me I was in no way aggressive, just frustrated and appalled. I asked him why he would do that after I was trying to get my predicament across and he just said 'because i can'. My shoulders slumped and when he saw that he had 'won' he reimbursed me what I had already paid for the final night and let me stay. I managed to find a room I could afford at 'the flying pig' which i would thoroughly recommend over here based on the stress I had to endure over a mistake made on the part of the staff. There was no attempt to rectify the issue or provide any level of customer service on the management end. I only give two stars based on the staff performance.
