The sink drain doesn't work. There's a pest trap in my room. The "shuttle service" is essentially you paying for a cab. The internet is choppy at best and the ownership will find a way to justify it based on the hotel's low rate. Enjoy your stay! :)
Calm location but old and very steep stairs
Positives: The staff was incredibly kind. The price was not bad, and the hotel is easy walking distance to some of the big museums.
Negatives: You can definitely tell that this hotel is an older building. Although the furniture seems new enough, it also seems like the owners have not put enough money into the building's maintenance. The carpet is old, and in our non smoking room, it, and the drapes, reeked off a musty old cigarette smell that set off my allergies.
The plumbing was also bad in our shower, which was built with no ledge or anything to catch access water. The drain was very slow and backed up and with no separation between the shower floor and the rest of the bathroom floor, the whole room flooded during any shower that lasted more than a minute. Even turning the water off while shampooing my hair, etc, the bathroom still flooded each time. A water line on the bathroom door told me that this may be a common problem here. We let the front desk know about the flooding and they seemed surprised, but as far as we can tell, no actions were taken to fix it.
The sheets and duvet on my mattress were slightly stained. There also seemed to be a small blood stain on the curtains which gave me pause.
Other things to note: breakfast and Wi-Fi are not included. The Wi-Fi was about 3 euros a day. For Americans used to hotels with A.C., note that you will not find that here. We slept with the windows open, but you can hear the church bells ringing all night down the street.
In summary, if you are planning to spend much time at all in the room, have allergies, or are fastidious, this might not be the place for you. If you are on a budget and aren't planning to spend much time in the hotel, then this place is alright.
Shower room is very clean. Pleasant staff. Room is very clean including the carpet on the floor. If you get a room in an upper floor it's quite difficult to carry if your luggages are oversized.
Nice hotel - nothing fancy, but good prices, clean rooms and a calm environment. Staff is super friendly.
Superb building and room, stunning location. Great feel. Outstanding staff, super helpful. Thank you for a great welcome and stay!
Good location walking distance to all the major museums yet in a real quiet neighbourhood. Stairs inside really in desparate need of paint and carpets in need of renovation. Room turned out to be forgotten by cleaning lady and in a big mess when we arrived. Later on room turned out ok, spacious with good shower tv set and water cooker to make tea and coffee. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and with scrambled eggs made on request.
Service was excellent, very small rooms but the price is fair for a great location to museums and tourist spots. Would recommend and stay again!
This hotel is okay if you want to visit Amsterdam and not really be in your room much except for sleeping hours.
The rooms were clean but the hotel has no elevator for its 4 floors, the room service forgot to clean our rooms one day, the common areas are very old and kind of dirty and its front desk is not resolutive at all.
In the end is okay to crash for a few hours but don't expect much from this hotel, I wouldn't come back with my girlfriend.
Great hotel for an affordable price in the heart of Amsterdam, if we will come to visit this city again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Washington again!
The room is ok. Very steap stairs, so be aware!
