We stayed at La Tortuga for our honeymoon in December for a week and were very happy with the location in downtown Playa, literally a block away from the shops on 5th Ave and close to the beach clubs too. We had a nice room in 218 with a comfortable bed and a jacuzzi which needed some work on the drain plug. The only other problem we noticed was the water quality which was very salty, but we realize that's an issue with most hotels in Playa del Carmen. It was very quiet during the day and night which was good since we worried about staying so close to Coco Bongo right down the street. The complimentary breakfast was good and we chose to have it delivered to our balcony a few times.
By far the best part about Tortuga is the staff! They were some of the nicest people we have encountered and extremely helpful in locating good local places to eat and excursions to take. We decided to change up our entire plan for tours based on their advice and did not regret it. We want to give a special shout to Zeniff and Raffa for their courtesy and professionalism in helping us enjoy our vacation!response / report this review -

Amazing hotel! Have stayed here twice and will recommend anyone I meet to stay. Staff is friendly, location is perfect on 10th and 14th. Right next to the party street (12th) coco bango is on the posit corner. 5th is right there and you are walking distance to the ADO (bus stop) or the collectibos (public transportation).
The pool is gorgeous and one of the reasons we came back. Breakfast was included and it was a full breakfast from 7-1 enough time to sleep in or wake up early for adventures. They have a spot where you can catch the sun and get tan! They also offer spa services.
There is a place across the street that sales tacos if you want a snack.response / report this review -

The people here are so awesome the building is older but it is well maintained and clean. The pool area is beautiful and honestly the mosquitos are not as bad as I expected, I have only seen a few. The breakfast is delicious and plenty of variety and just the size portions. I would recommend it to anyone it has been a really wonderful place to stay, it is peaceful and relaxing and again all the staff have been a pleasure to deal with and very helpful.

Great hotel in Playa. The location is perfect if you plan on bar hopping and walking to the beach. The included breakfast is better than most hotels offer. The bar in the hotel has a happy hour that is good also.
The pool is very relaxing but it is more for the ambiance than swimming or tanning.
I have stayed here twice and highly recommend it if you are looking for a mid range hotel that won't break the bank.response / report this review -

I would sincerely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in or near Playa del Carmen. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with an amazingly friendly staff. The facilities and rooms are spotless and offer a range of activities such as a pool table, bar, restaurant, pool/spa, and lounge areas. The pool side area has the feel of a dense jungle and creates a sense of calm whether you're lounging on your balcony or by the pool. I would highly recommend this hotel and would easily book a room here again if I visit Playa del Carmen in the future!

Its a very nice and cozy place, I only didn't like the salty water in the shower and no elevators in the building and I had 3 pieces of luggage.

We had a wonderful stay, rooms are a bit outdated but clean and comfortable. Great location walking distance from food, shopping, beach. Great breakfast and even better service from all the hotel staff. A good hotel for adults they made our stay very special.

Awesome hotel! I spent the better part of a week searching the web for every hotel, hostel, and vacation rental around Playa del Carmen before choosing La Tortuga. Absolutely amazing pool and lounge areas in the center of the hotel, and a great restaurant overlooking it. Stayed in Junior suite 306 on the 3rd floor, which had perfect views of the pool oasis below from the 2 balconys in the suite. The upper balcony had a private Jacuzzi and lounge bed which was really well kept. The staff was extremely friendly and did everything in their power to make the stay a special one. I don't generally take the time to review places, but this hotel made my vacation, and deserves all the credit for it. Will absolutely be back!

We had a short stay in La Tortuga Spa, and it was a very pleasant one. The staff were friendly, and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable, airy and cool (thanks to air-conditioning, balcony double doors, and ceiling fans). The refrigerator in the room was a plus, given the heat it was nice to keep our beverages cool. The common area is charming, and the are ample books available if you want to divulge your inner book worm. The pool table is also available when you want to get out of the sun. The pool and loungers are very convenient you want a break from the beach, which is only a stones throw away. Additionally, breakfast was delicious. The only qualm I would have was the WiFi speed and strength. But it got the job done when it was needed.

Cute hotel if you don't care much about details. The good: nice sized common areas, lush plants in pool area, nice layout makes the hotel seem serene despite it being in the middle of lively city center. The bad: the hotel common areas could use some cleaning (think hair tumbleweeds everywhere), the pool bottom was dirty and rusty in some parts, the bathroom floor was dirty enough that I felt the need to wear flip flops, room and private balcony were cramped, tv remote did not work, tv only had Spanish language channels, etc. Probably would not stay given the choice again.
