Anything BUT luxury at this property. Garden rooms are musty with horribly shabby bathrooms. Towels are threadbare, incredibly thin and, in the case of our room, stained with faded brown spots. I've honestly seen better towels at every other budget motel I've ever stayed at. The bathtub was old and poorly patched with wobbly fixtures. Shower doors were dirty with water stains. Plenty of random 'hair' all over the bathroom. Bedroom was average size, very far from a 'suite' and dark. Floors were dirty and our sliding doors didn't work, resulting in a cut finger after I attempted to close them properly. Service is totally aloof and misdirected. Yes, they have a lot of people working there, but no one seems to know what to do. I was never asked 'can I get you anything?'. The beach is gorgeous here, but you're paying a big price for a nice beach. This hotel should be priced at about $250/night, not $750++. It's comparable to an Embassy Suites or Marriott Courtyard. I offered to pay for a nicer room, but the hotel was sold out. We all agreed that I'd be happier at another property in the area, but I'm still waiting for the hotel to refund my deposit. Management should visit a Four Seasons or St. Regis hotel to see how comparably-priced hotels operate. I suspect some of their positive press is courtesy of the free trips they give out to 'celebrities', social media influencers and bloggers. Perhaps they should spend less giving away freebies and more on staff training, property maintenance and room improvements.

It's an ok "relaxing spot", if you don't mind kids playing right in front of your breakfast or dinner table. Definitely over priced for what it is. The location and architecture is not interesting enough for the price. You can find better no far from it. Matress and pillows were very uncomfortable and barely had a good sleep.
The food, sadly is not authentic mexican food and lacks flavor, specially dinner dishes. I don't recall having a warm meal & staff never could give a straigh asnswer as of why dishes were always on the cold side and stail.
Bartenders lack knowledge on drinks & are extremely uptight on the servings, given the high, unreasonable, prices. Disappointed to say the least, given we chose 5 days when in reality is worth 3 and half of the cost.
Tried to use the catamaran 3 times and was told that couldn't cause of weather, which I understand, but the other times the excuse was that there was no staff.
The staff , overall was typical staff. Friendly and attentive. Would I come back ? Absolutely not. Do I recommend it ? No, unless you want to spend unnecessary amount of money.
One last thing. Don't bother going to their "exclusive" cenote. It's not, anyome has access. Also it's dangerous, filthy & you may most likely bump into locals taking showers.
P.S: last day they ran out of guacamole. Yup no avocados. I guess wasn't the season.response / report this review -

Just back form 4 night at the Esencia.i have to say pleasantly surprised
.this is great place to stay.it really takes in the feeling of being relaxed.special i enjoyed yoga classes. the teacher was friendly warm. and easy going .the classes are not too challenging but not too easy and makes relax and peaceful. i like the different teaching styles every morning.i never thought i would be able to do enjoy yoga .it's awesome accommodations for stay.response / report this review -

Great staff, great rooms and amazing beach access with private cabanas. They staff took such great care of us and prepared a special birthday desert for my wife without request. Will visit again. Plus dozens of iguanas and three peacocks if you are into that sort of thing. Extremely fast internet too.
