This is the main railway station situated in the heart of Colombo. The building was built and put into operation in 1908. At present, the station consists of 10 platforms and caters 0.2 million passengers daily. It consists of passenger waiting rooms, changing rooms (utility rooms) and cafeterias. Station has special arrangements for disabled persons. The main seat reservation counter of the Sri Lanka Railways too is at the Colombo Fort Railway Station.

Heart of the railway.. each and every trains starting from Colin Fort railway station. This place is normally very rush during the office hours. Well maintain and has a good information counters to get the information about the trains. You can receive any train tickets from this place. Well covered from the sun rays and raining. Cafeteria, ladies and gentlemen restrooms has.

We were about to get our tickets to Galle and the tourist information office just wanted to sell their tours. They do offer. Great customer service but sometimes it’s better to do your own consultation before believing on what they say.

Fairly well maintained.
As expected the office end times are the most busiest and crowded during week days. (See 'popular times' graphs.)
The timely departure is good but can and should be improved.
Has 11 platforms and the three sets of stairs cover most of them.

This is main railway station in Sri Lanka. The plus point for the tourist is they have lockers where you can keep your bags safely. It will only cost less than half a dollar per day per luggage.

If you are a tourist there is special restroom, which is cleaner than other public restrooms in the station. Please ask from the staff. You can take trains to any destination in Sri Lanka from here.

The departure boards are somewhat confusing. The station is not well maintained.

The largest and busiest railway station in Srilanka!! This is the central hub for all rail routes. You could get trains to almost anywhere in this island. But not that clean or maintained.

Station buildings are pretty old, can observe interesting architectural features. Very old train engines also can be seen there.

This is the busiest railway station in the country. It is possible to get a train to anywhere in the country from this railway station. This station has some facilities for the passengers and tourists. But those are not good as such. Rest rooms and wash areas are also here. By paying an amount less than 100 rupees you can get wash room facilities.

To move between platforms you usually need to climb stairs. Not smooth if you are with heavy luggage.

Easy to find transportation. After visiting various cities inner country, this was the first with metered Tuk Tuk that I saw.

When train is there, it becomes crowded. Rather than obvious, it its negatively exacerbated by the fact of narrow public spaces and stairs. It is smart to consider being ahead of schedule to avoid problems.

The main railway station for the country and for the capital Colombo as well. Most of the long distance trains are starting from here. There are nearly platforms in this stations. There is a paid washroom where the shower and toilet facilities are available with entry fee. Others toilets also available but not clean always. Advance booking can be done by visiting in person. This booking counter closes from 12.30 to 01.30 pm

Fastest passengers transport mechanism in 🇱🇰. Most of the time it is on time. mostly crowded. Station facilities are poor. Especially wash rooms. Public wifi facility available. But not working properly.

1 of the centres of Colombo. As a tourist train journeys is 1 of the best ways to travel around Sri Lanka. Trains from here go everywhere in Sri Lanka connected by train. I found biking a train here pretty easy and people here speak good English. If you arrive here ton of tuk-tuks and buses to bring you anywhere in Colombo.

Passenger drop parking went smoothly. Train arrived and departed on time as scheduled.

Please be courteous to ticket issuing staff at the coubters since they serve thousands of passengers in an hour. Please use information available around you before troubling the staff and keep fellow commuters waiting.

The ticket counter officials need to learn basic customer service skills. When buying a ticket, I asked whether that is the intercity train, and the guy asks me to go check the timetable and come. What is the point of having a human being sitting there (just warming the chair?) if he can't answer a simple question. We might as well get some ticket machines with the tax payers' money without wasting it on idiots like these. This happened today (31.07.2017) at 6.45am.

Old train station that cannot be seen in some other countries I guess. No air con or fan, but there's still wind blowing if seating the other side across the over head bridge. The train timing and platform is difficult for first timer to understand. So try asking station staff for help, they are friendly.

It's a very historic train station. The middle platforms can be very dark. Try to use your hotel's toilets before coming here.

For the expo train and other intercity trains, you'll need to collect your tickets at the outside ticket offices. When you have a few of them in a tiny room, it can get crowded in the tickets office.

The expo rail to Kandy left on time at 7am. Arrived there almost on time. Left kandy on time as well. So, you can say I'm pretty impressed.

My seat 5D was on the right side of the train and for over an hour, I had the sun shining into our sides and it can get hot. That seat too has an auto (not voluntary) recliner so every 10-15 minutes I'll have the passenger behind, knee me. 5D also has a partial window but when it reclined, you'll get a full view :)

On the way back, I was on 7D but this time, the train was going "backwards" but at least there's a full window without the auto reclining function.

Both journeys came with snacks (doesn't make a difference if you ordered veg or non-veg), a bottle of water and later, hot drinks. I avoided the hot drinks cos the train was very shaky.
