Maradana Railway Station is a major rail hub in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The station is served by Sri Lanka Railways, with many inter-city and commuter trains entering each day. It is the terminus of several intercity trains.
Maradana is home to the suburban-Colombo network's centralised traffic control centre.
When the railways first opened in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in 1864, trains terminated at Colombo Terminus Station, a now-retired station near Maradana. In 1906, a project was launched to reorganise the railway within the Colombo area. Colombo Terminus Station was closed and replaced by the new Maradana Station.

Fort Railway Station was opened in 1917, as a new central station for Colombo. Today, Maradana and Fort are the primary rail gateways to Colombo.

The station is served from the north-east by the Main line, which leads to several other major routes in Sri Lanka's railway network. To the south-east of the station, the Kelani Valley Line connects Maradana with many other area of Colombo. The station is served to the west by the Coastal line, leading to Galle and Matara. Most of these Coastal-line trains terminate at Maradana Station.

Maradana station is also a hub for commuter rail within the Colombo metropolis.

One of the main station in sri lanka. Unfortunately there is no train time table in side the station. It's not easy to identify the trains that are coming and where it's stops. Coz some time they are not announcing. The station is well maintained and clean. Always people need to be more care full to keep the trains and station clean and protect those.

Second largest station. lot of trains are traveled through this station. There are 10nos of platform. There are toilets for both male and female, canteen at 5 and 6 platforms. Every matara and galle trains are started from here. Times table of trains are available at enterance.

Busiest railway station after Fort. Quite fair facilities. Have a time table board displayed at the entrance. Most of the architecture belongs to british colonial era. There are 10 platforms. Tickets and passes are checked when you leave the station. Staff is not that much friendly. Downsouth trains are starting from this station.

This is the second main railway station in sri lanka. Majority of the trains which are going in southern line is starting from this station. Crowded in mainly office hours. Restuerent situated inside the station is not up to the standard and they are charging high amount. Better if u can take foods from out side.

Though a one of the main railway station no enough facilities to passengers esp rest rooms.Trains to southrn part of the country start from here,so better to begin the journey from Maradana rather than Fort,Colombo.

If you plan on going south the Galle or Matara then go from here rather than Fort station as this is where the train begins and you will more likely get a seat on the train. We got a seat straight away and it filled up pretty quickly so there were not many seats left by the time you get to Fort. Screens didn't work and we did not know of a platform change as sound system is not very good. Luckily another passenger told us about it.

Train terminal for most trains. Starts or ends almost all trains. Two way entrance inside. Very busy during office startup and off time. Announcing in three language for all trains should be accommodated.
