Best rental company in Iceland! Calmed all my fears before rentalsmooth pick up at airport at 5am! Car was great with no issues and no problems dropping car off at airport. I will be renting again in september 2018 when i go back!

Got our car early Sunday morning. Absolutely the most professional experience ever. Good car, maps, good instructions that I thought I wouldn't need, but did. Pay a little bit more and enjoy your trip, don't jump on that backpacker rated discount stuff. Highly recommended!

Excellent experience and a very warm welcome.
Route 1 were very professional and responsive before and during the trip, with any questions we had. Our meeting at the airport with Alma, who took care of our booking, was quick and straight forward. The car was as booked and in great condition - we enjoyed it throughout our stay. All in all amazing service!

My wife and I rented a Suzuki Swift from Route 1 Car rental in September 2017. Everything about the experience was exemplary - Communication over mail, handing over of car, communication of all details (WiFi, dropoff etc). We did have a problem with the WiFi device halfway through the journey. I was very impressed that they refunded the entire amount! Overall, would certainly recommend this company and special thanks to Alma!

Great value for the money. We rented an automatic 2016 Vitara, it was in a great condition. They sent a representative to welcome us in the airport (Karen), and she explained about the different aspects of driving in Iceland, as well as for the different insurances we could do while we are there. I highly recommend renting a car from them, I will do so for sure, on my next trip.

Very happy with our experience. They picked us up from the hotel to pick up the car, and drove me back when we dropped it off. The car was in good condition, and they did a thorough check with me before turning the car over to identify any current damage. They were also very helpful by email before the rental to help me understand the insurance requirements, and worked with me to make sure my extended insurance through Visa would apply.

Absolutely greatest rental car option in Iceland. So kind, so helpful and definitely the cheapest. We were about an hour late returning the car at the airport and they were so flexible and understanding we appreciate them and you will too!

This was one of the best car rental experiences we've had! We accidentally booked a manual and didn't find out until the day before we had made the mistake. They quickly and easily took care of it and were able to accommodate us to switch to an automatic without any issue. Our rental also included pick-up and drop off at our hotel in Reykyavik. They were great! Can't say enough good things about the experience.

They're awesome. We considered a number of car rentals but after all I'm glad to have chosen them. No problems with the car, so I can't say about that part, but their customer service was AWESOME. I realized I left my little SD card case in the car after getting back to my country. I was devastated and immediately emailed them about this with the car info & etc, and they replied within hours letting me know that they have found it and was holding on to it, and a few emails later, they shipped it to my address with a tracking info! I was so thankful for their effort. Overall, a great experience!!! :)

We had a great time in Iceland. The car we rented from Route 1 was outstanding. Never a problem in spite of the bumpy off-road countryside. More importantly, when a "Check Engine" light came on, I called them up from Vik (on the south coast) and after a few questions, they assured me that they was no problem and I could keep driving. If I ever got stuck they would send someone in a car to help us out. Thankfully, the car was robust and gave excellent service (and great mileage, considering the gas prices!). Small car, but it never let us down.
As usual, we forgot our cellphone charger in the car. Surprisingly we received an email back in Houston, TX, that they found the charger. Would I like it back? I said yes! 15 days later it arrived in the mail. Thank you, Route 1. Your honesty, customer service, and friendly professional attitude is a fresh change and added to our great memories of a fantastic time we had in Iceland.

Decent value for money and a pickup service is included in the price. The optional damage waivers however are higly recommended if you rent with them: I had a stone hit the windscreen of my rental Yaris, leaving a tiny crack, and it ended up costing me 258 euros, which I felt cheated by.

Very helpful last minute car rental on my recent trip to Iceland. Our hotel normally use another firm but as our request was very last minute they had nothing available. This company pulled the stops out to help us. Very helpful, very reasonable prices under the circumstances. I am looking at a longer summer time trip to Iceland next year and will definitely be looking at this company as first option for car hire.

I booked a Land Cruiser through Route 1 Car Rental December 22, 2016. I had heard horror stories in the past about booking rental companies that had used rentals and were lower priced but their price for the Land Cruiser was 1/2 of what Hertz was charging so I decided to try them out. I also was not going too far into the countryside so it was a good trip to test them out with. The Land Cruiser was not old and beaten up as I had expected, in fact it was in perfect condition and exceeded my expectations. Beyond that, the customer service was excellent. As just about everyone else does flying from the US to Iceland, my flight arrived early in the morning and I wanted to get some sleep before going out to explore. I didn't want to pick up my rental at 6:30 in the morning because that would have added an extra day to my rental. I booked a room at the GEO hotel in Grindavik and used their free airport shuttle to get to my room. I had planned to take their shuttle back to the airport at noon to get my car. I didn't sleep so well and called Route 1 car rental around 10:00 am and asked if we could delay my pick up till 2:00 pm (14:00). They went a step further and said that since I was going to Reykjavik, if I were will to drop their driver off at their office, they would take the car to Grindavik for me so I wouldn't have to go to the airport. That is going the extra mile in my book. I just booked another car through them for my trip in 2 weeks. This time I am going into the countryside but I have no worries because I know their cars are great quality even with the great price. Their customer service is excellent and very personal. They are very willing to work with you to make you a happy customer. I would highly recommend booking with them for your Iceland car rental!

The best car rental company that I have used so far. An employee was waiting for us at the arrivals gate, and brought us to the car.

It was exactly what we had ordered, after a few formalities, few documents to sign etc and then we were on are way. Was very quick, simple and for a reasonable price. Definitely would recommend.
