What an amazing place. A glacier claves icebergs into a lake. It is one of the most amazing things I've seen. We took a boat ride around the lake, it was spectacular. Worth visiting the nearby beach too.

Easy stop. Not really a rec area so no real bathroom facilities or store. Cafe was cute but it the heat of tourist season it will be very busy. Stop across the bridge for a different view or the opposite side for some beach views. This is a must do in our books.

Took our two children (4 &6) on the amphibian boat tour and we all had a wonderful time. The girls loved being able to hold a chunk of the glacier and were even more thrilled to be able to eat a bit of it. The views were amazing and it was worth every penny.

Amazing sight of this glacier. Chilled waters. Atmosphere absolutely chilled. Would love to visit this place when it rains or if at all it rains here. Water freezes so fast. The river surface is absolutely ice hard inviting visitors to walk over it. Brilliant atmosphere.

We've visited this place today. I'd agree with everyone else it's a must see. It wasn't as impressive now, end March, as I see on many photos here. Only two large ice chunks were floating in the water. Nice to see but not super spectacular. The glacier a little bit further down the ring 1 towards Reykjavik was more impressive. Large parking lot. Free of charge. Clean free restrooms in the white building where you can book the ice cave tour. The diamond beach right across the road was lovely. Our kids of 1.5 and 3 very much enjoyed playing in the black sand, with the beautiful rocks and the large ice chunks washed ashore. We also saw a seal struggling to get through the current into the water pool at the glacier.

Great place to go, where else in the world can you see a glacier and just park your can and go and walk up to it with kids. The whole area is a wonderful place. From the black sand beach with chunks of ice (glacier) on it. To the river of ice and seals that you drive over to get to the parking lot. Was there in winter and the place was still packed. So be prepared for people. But there is enough room. That you can take a picture of the glacier with no one in your picture. It is also very cold the wind in the area is bone chilling. But we'll worth it.

lovely place to walk have nice photos and just be here. This is the closest glacier you can drive by. After you need to walk if you want to step on it. Still be very careful as you need to have special equipment to do it. Better do not risk and go through local guide companies. Must have this experience once in the lifetime glacier caves and glacier walks.

Out of all my stops this I think was my favorite. The blue colors and the scenery was amazing. Make sure to bring your crampons (locals call then spikes) in the winter! Cheap ones will do, they sell them at local stores for 10-20$. If you keep walking past where most the tourists are (about three little hills - and the views from the top of the hills are gorgeous) you may get to see seals chilling on the ice!

We did a glacier walk, not a boat tour. It was good and the guide was very helpful and friendly. The hike could and probably should have been a greater distance, the whole group were young and fit enough. We found ourselves standing around a little too much. Amazing views though! Still recommended

This was one of my favorite tours. Our tour guide( I think his name was Thor?) took us to the lagoon, and then afterwards we got to see the glaciers on "Diamond Beach". We were lucky and on this particular day, the river current was moving particularly, which made for some amazing scenery. I would highly recommend booking this tour.

Definitely a place to do in your Iceland trip! We visited during winter and the landscape was amazing (but freezing!). The tours are good but a bit short for the price. Anyway you don't have many choices anyway. They all go to the same spot. I wish I ve had seen more of the glacier.
I also recommend to check the black sand beach near by ;)
PS: the staff was very nice!

Wonderful natural scenery! We were lucky enough to see the lagoon after rains with clear floating blocks of ice slowly flowing out to sea as well as the next day when the same area was covered in snow!

Definitely worth crossing the road to visit the beach side area! Many different ice blocks had floated on the shore to look at.

The tour to the ice caves was also fantastic. A scenic 20 minute drive in an offroad vehicle to the cave and just a short trek from there into the cave.

One of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. All of the southern coast is breathtaking with beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches and highlands filled with 🐑. But the glacier is something special and to be in a small amphibious boat to travel through a lagoon filled with pieces of the glacier that have calved was quite exciting. There is also a Zodiac boat that goes faster and a bit further out if speed is your thing. Well worth the price. I think it was a little over $100 for the two if us.

One of the best places, must visit place in Iceland, where the icebergs are kept with wires just so that people can enjoy and see what mother nature can create. Real beauty of Iceland. If you are visiting this place in autumn, be sure to have warm clothes, as it's gonna be WINDY

Very friendly and informative guide. Icebergs were superb and everything ran punctually. When it's cloudy you get really vivid blue icebergs with high definition in the striations.

We came and viewed everything ourselves and did not pay to take any boat tours.

This place had unbelievable, breathtaking views, and was completely worth the trip to Iceland all by itself! As an added bonus, there is another amazing sight just across the street: the black diamond beach.

We pulled off the main road and into the parking lot. We were stunned by the natural beauty of these glacial icebergs floating in the lagoon, slowly creaking and melting.

To our delight, there were dozens of wild sea-lions swimming around, and sea-birds hovering over the icebergs.

We spent about 30 minutes marveling at this marvelous sight before we headed across the street to another breathtaking view: the black diamond beach, which was equally remarkable!

Zodiac Boat Tour = Awesome. If you don't get sea sick (or motion sick I guess) and are looking for a quick thrill as you drive down the south coast road in Iceland, do the zodiac boat tour at the Jökulsárlón Glaicer Lagoon. I went in mid-August so it was super busy and tried to book my tour same day, but everything was already booked. They had a spot the next morning that I snagged by booking online and I'm glad I made the spontaneous decision to do it. The ride was bumpy, exciting, and beautiful. The crew gets you into a jump suit and life vest (just in case) and then you ride a bus form the parking lot to the docks where the boats await. You sit on the edge of the boat and hold on to some ropes on the side - like I said, it's a thrill. If you have a bad back you are cautioned away from this tour and more towards the tour that takes you out on an actual land/sea boat versus the zodiac which is an inflatable speed boat essentially. The entire crew was awesome and the boat captains knowledgable and friendly. They take you weaving through pieces of the glacier that have drifted off and into the lake and bring you right up to the big one - Jökulsárlón. The water is turquoise and clean, the glaciers are beautiful and enormous, and you might spot the occasional seal. Bring your phone is you're brave and you're camera if you plan to keep it strapped to you body or at least around your neck (and don't mind either getting a little wet from the water splashing into the boat) - like I said the ride is bumpy.

Summary: You just have to do it.

Spectacular. This was definitely one of the best things we experienced on Iceland. We booked the zodiac tour and it was just great. We wore huge suits to keep us warm and safe, there were 9 of us on the boat. The trip took approx. 40minutes, we got really close to the glacier and even saw some seals! Totally recommended.

Beautiful, no words to describe it! Luckily it is not (yet) very crowded and we could take our time there, walking, watching the ice move slowly. We even saw seals!! Such a peaceful place. And the black sand beach on the other side of the road is also amazing, like a landscape from another planet. Don't miss it!

Be careful where you park. Legend goes that a tourist once parked his rental car too close to the edgeby the time he came back his car had become one with the lagoon and was soon seen drifting into the sea.

Winter notes: great location but water's edge is frozen so be careful I personally slipped and fell.

Summer: you should be fine

Other than that a great view and experience for all ages and photographers.

Epically beautiful. The ice floating in a dark blue lagoon is just magical. We also travelled over to the diamond beach and got some great photos of the ice up close. We had suck a great experience here and it's always changing given that the ice is constantly in the move. A must see for those visiting.

Incredible to actually see how fast this glacier is melting away. 100 meters a year! As you walk to the face of the glacier the Ranger would say "In 1983, the glacier used to come to here." We would look up and see it still a way off Then again for 1997 Then for 2010. It's time to open our eyes. The only thought that consoles me is how scared I would be if the reverse was happening!

This is a must for all visitors. The "flowing" ice over the lagoon changes every day or every 2-3 hours. I don't think you can have the same picture twice. This is what makes it unique. Stay over the west side of the bridge, there is more to see and photo over there. Across the side facing the ocean (also on the west side of the bridge), you will find huge ice lying all over the black sand beach. The ice is as tall as a human, and some are as big as a car. Go there during the evening sunset hours. Unfortunately, the black sand beach is also covered with foot print by tourist, thus making it difficult to get the texture of the black sand with the ice.

Very beautiful! If you have the time and the funds check out the blue ice cave. It's very beautiful! The only downfall is the number of people in the cave, but even still it is a beautiful site! Then head across the street to see diamond beach. There is bits of ice washed up on a black sand beach. The contrast is stunning.
