Pretty hotel in a remote and beautiful location. Sadly doors are everything but soundproof and many details of the set-up don't add up (no towels in wellness area and others). Fantastic restaurant.

Beautiful semi remote setting. The hotel is clean, modern and very stylish. Our room was more than big enough and had the best shower I can recall. The staff could not be more helpful or nicer. Great breakfast and dinner.

NOT STAY HERE. what a waste of money, wish I read the reviews. They call themselves a luxury hotel. You don't even get coffee with breakfast, the "luxury room" has nothing luxurious about it. It's small and nothing special compared to the any other hotel except for the picture of an Icelandic horse. Hair still all over the shower, TV didn't work. Don't have labels on anything at breakfast and you have to pay for a coffee if you want know made properly. Takes an age to get to and is so very underwhelming

We only went for lunch but this was a very nice gem tucked away from the city. The service and food were great, and we practically had the restaurant to ourselves. Stunning views!

Swank, stunning venue with panoramic views
From which to admire the tundra and aurora borealis. Excellent service and cuisine. Great vibe among the fellow guests. Tight quarters compared to other options, but well worthwhile for the unique experience. The spa is exquisite because of the unique hot pool and sauna with amazing view, if nothing else.

I stayed here with my now fiancee on our last night in Iceland. We stayed in a deluxe room. It was beautiful and well-stocked with comfortable linens, nice toiletries, and drinks in the mini-fridge. The restaurant and Northern Lights Bar had delicious menu options. All of the staff were kind and helpful. I especially wanted to thank our bartender Fanney who gave us incredible service with a smile. She went above and beyond to ensure our last day in Iceland was extra memorable. We enjoyed our stay at Ion Adventure Hotel very much and we definitely recommend it to anyone who is deciding whether to stay here.

Decent hotel, rooms are basic and on the small side. Was originally housing for the workers at the nearby geothermal plant so wasn't purpose built as a hotel and it shows a bit. Windows in room weren't sealed completely so was whistling when it was windy which made it difficult to sleep at times. Breakfast was not as expansive as other places in Iceland, basic items were included. Had dinner once and it was very good, food was flavorful, well prepared, and well proportioned. Hotel is in a remote valley, no where else to go within 45 mins. Mountain/hills blocked parts of aurora when it was out at night. Not worth the cost imo.

This afternoon we dropped by this hotel, seemingly randomly placed near a hydroelectric plant among stunning scenery.

We only popped in for a coffee and were greeted by 2 charming reception ladies. They were extremely friendly and chatty and even charged our phones for us. The coffee was delicious also. Please pass on our thanks to them. Xxxx

After 8 days in Iceland, I didn't see the value in the Ion Hotel. The surrounding location is wonderful, but when at the hotel, the views are not the best of Iceland. The plant close by is a little odd - not terrible, but there are so many other amazing places in Iceland, I wouldn't choose this again. Service was friendly and warm. Hotel room was regular sized and well appointed. Welcome sparkling wine was a nice touch. Food prices at the restaurant were the highest we'd seen in Iceland. I just felt it was a strange location for a high end hotel and not all that special.

Very ultra-modern building-looks like the mother ship has landed! Comfortable rooms, great beds, great, friendly staff. Excellent food in the restaurant. Fabulous huge hot pool adjacent to the spa. Clean, great place-loved it!

Although near a geothermal plant, this hotel was my favorite in Iceland. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable, service was strong and the bar and hot pool is breathtaking. The views are amazing. We walked down the road and had a soak in the running river which is heated by the geothermal activity nearby. I highly recommend that as an end of the day (we went at 11pm). Incredibly relaxing experience

Modern with a friendly staff. Welcomed with a glass of champagne and then settled into their private hot spring for a relaxing soak after arriving in country. Excellent restaurant.

Bring your 4x4 vehicle to visit this hotel! Off the beaten path, with beautiful views and amazing natural hot spring fed pool. However, when driving up to the hotel, the first thing you will notice is not the hotel, but the massive geothermal power plant. The power plant is, without exaggeration, less than a kilometer from the hotel and clearly seen. Thus, make sure your room is situated facing away from the power plant and facing the mountains.

Good hotel, overpriced. Very nice hotel. It's pretty isolated, yet close to the nearby national park. Staff are super friendly and even provided us complementary sparking wine upon arrival. We were given a complimentary "upgraded" room? I'm not sure what made it upgraded since it seemed pretty standard. The rooms are very nice, but are a bit on the small side. What was disappointing was the maybe 4 working channels on the TV and that everything in the bathroom gets soaked when you take a shower. The breakfast buffet was amazing and highly recommend it. The last comment, which I've seen from others is that the pool is comically cold. It's chilly outside, if you want people to enjoy it make it warm [even HOT!].

I don't really like it the rooms were very tiny and there was only kid shows on the television and we had to watch it with our 8 children they loved it but there was not any toys the people that gave us a room said they will give us room with toys in there for the kids but the room was Tiny it had Elmo all over it didn't even think about the grown ups we want want to be in a room with kid shows and Elmo all over the wall and like 3 toys which were baby toys we have kids ages 7 and under the toys were talking Angelina who danced and you can chat with her but she didn't understand what you were saying to her all she understood was hi, how are you, good night, and good morning, oh and also what are you going to eat. That's all she understood right there and there was a baby phone for a child who was Age 3 and my children are like 4 to 7

Stayed here for 1 night and was pleasant enough. Quite a small hotel, off the beaten track. The deluxe room was very small so expect standard rooms are even smaller. Staff were decent and the food was tasty (but super expensive, even for Iceland). Breakfast was lacking though. Not as luxury or deluxe as it might appear on the photos

No Luxury or Adventure

We booked into Hotel Ion on the Honeymoon package to finish off our first ever trip to Iceland and first holiday as a married couple. From seeing the photos and write ups we were very much looking forward to our stay. Lets start with the positives:

* It is in a beautiful location (we didn't mind the power plant), there are some lovely walks in the area
* The bar food was very tasty (burgers and waffles)
* We got to see the northern lights

But it was far outweighed by the negatives:

* Booking is a slow process. Long waits for email replies and confirming there is space. They booked us in for the wrong dates originally.
* The building is getting a little run down. Dirty curtains, the window in our room did not close, there were damp problems and blistering walls. We were told our room was unique but it was no different from any other. It didn't feel luxury, it felt unloved.
* Our package included a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate. We had to chase this down twice.
* Our package included a spa treatment, we booked this for a day and time. When that day arrived we were told that it was not happening and it was our mistake with the date.
* Daily 5pm fire alarms with no warning.
* Restaurant food was OK but not varied enough between each day. The first night our food was chosen for us which was unfortunate as we ended up with things we did not enjoy. The dessert tasted like fish.
* With such small rooms it is very hard to dry off hiking gear after walks in the surrounding mountains. It is not geared up for adventure and it made for an unpleasant stay in what became a very cramped, damp room.
* Breakfast was a very average buffet setup.
* Staff were hit and miss. Some were very cold and unwelcoming, others tried very hard to help when they could. Communication between shifts seems to be a big issue.

Our recommendation would be to visit this area on a good weather day to explore, grab some bar food and then head on somewhere else.

Clean room, very design and lovely location. But, there is no lake around the hotel and staff is (for some of them) a little bit unfriendly and cold. Food is way more expensive than its worth but still good. Good tips: ask for the bar menu when you go at the restaurant for dinner or they won't give it to you, only the dinner menu (more expensive and could be not your taste). Combo of snacks is amazing tho. Saw northern lights from the room, lovely.
