Good hotel for it's price. Close to highway, but I wouldn't say it was a problem. Trivial ham-cheese-omlet-coffee breakfast was good.

The food was fine and the cleanliness of the room was good.
However, I believe they were racially prejudice as they put both my friend and I in an area where there was a missing ceiling tile and another friend they put in a room where the heated towel rail had fall off and could have caused a serious incident.
Although I reported the missing tile nothing was done and the towel rail was never replaced.

To be fair, it was cheap, but it was clean. Basic amenities, good breakfast. Not too far from the centre of Reykjavik but a short distance from then nearest shopping centre.

Small and simple rooms. Breakfast was excellent. There's a heating unit by the window. It's hidden and we didn't see it first night

I am Christie Varisano (Isaiah's mom) who just returned from Iceland and stay at Hotel Smari.it was a fantastic stay! The Staff being their best asset just wonderful and helpful always!!! Rooms were clean, beds comfy, and BREAKFAST was a wonderful experience of delights! I read another review mentioning some maintenance could be improved(which I would agree) but as with any home there is always something needing something.but I would recommend staying here to anyone making a trip to Iceland! Loved it!

This is my 2nd trip to Iceland in 18 months. For what I paid, this is good value.
Not your Ritz or Marriott resort kind of accommodation which I've been to many times. But the experience was good. All 8 of us in our group felt the same. Front desk personnel was extremely helpful and friendly - both young ladies - one from Poland and one Hong Kong. Good breakfast, and Clean serviceable rooms. Bathroom is a bit small but definitely functional. I will recommend this to my savvy traveler friends without hesitation.

We booked on Expedia. They somehow overbooked our accommodation so the room e wanted wasn't available. Malwina the lady working at the front desk worked to get us a room as it was very late. She accomplished it and we were very pleased. The room was also very nice and a great breakfast!

Had a terrible time. The water doesn't snelle and taste good. It is not the typical fresh, clean and safe icelandic tapwater, bit more like transparant sewerwater with a hint of dead fish. Even without the water running, the bathroom didn't smell pleasent. The WiFi connection was not strong and we had plenty of times where the WiFi wasn't working at all. Furthermore, breakfast was always crowded. There is not enough space for everyone to dit and there was only one counter for food which caused a long line every morning. The staff was friendly though.

People at reception are very helpful. Small rooms but standard facilities. Good breakfast. Booked all tours with Gray Line. They pick up guests from Smari - so no transport related issues.

Nice comfortable little hotel, with amazing staff. The rooms are warm, the beds are comfortable and everything is clean. Yes, the hot water smells sulphurous nut this isn't the first place with geothermal heating in the world I've been where the water smells - it's a quirk of a volcanic island!! Free breakfast is included (although our travel agency told us we weren't getting breakfast included) and a good spread too.

The only 2 negatives for me - it is located quite a way from the city centre and a taxi will cost around £25 each way (although there is a bus route nearby which will obviously be much cheaper). Secondly, our room (212) smelt of drains (specifically urea), which seemed to be coming from the floor drain under the sink. I minimised the smell by putting the bin over the drain, but it was still there in the background and you occasionally got whiffs of it.

Regardless of those 2 comments though, I would stay here again.
