Great place to stay with the Northern Lights on your door step over the lake, easy access to food, shops, and roads to the North and East.
Very welcoming place with the staff willing to help where ever they can, buffet breakfast and evening meals are definitely worth it! Will certainly be back to this place!
This is a friendly quirky hotel in a neighbouring town to Reykjavik. Clean, good buffet breakfast and evening meals at additional fee, and picnic lunches. Overlooks a lake at the back and good parking at front. Probably best to have a car: the snow storms made public transport impracticable. Though if you don't know how to drive in extreme conditions, don't set off in them: tourists create lethal havoc on the roads. There seemed to be luxury and standard rooms. Ours was the latter and clean, spacious and well equipped with kettle etc. English tv a bonus in the evenings. Best part of hotel were staff: could not have been more helpful and kind. Took my daughter sledging when our plans were thwarted by weather. Will wake guests if northern lights appear (if you have so chosen). Highly recommended.
Had the opportunity to to sleep at hotel kríunes, nice room, great service, friendly and very helpful staff. Amazing views. The hotel offers wakeup in case of Northern lights. I traveled with my girlfriend and 4 month old son they were very accommodating and helpful. Will recommend.
Good location, not far from downtown but far enough if you want some piece, quiet and cozy time. We visited during winter and I found it amazing that if the northern light was visible they would wake you if you asked for it. Good breakfast buffet and you can also buy a lunch box to take with you. Rooms are clean and have a good view. Staff is helpful and friendly. We had our 4 month old with us and we felt very welcomed, there was baby bed and highchair. Overall we had a good experience.
We stayed here as a group for three nights and loved our stay. The staff are very friendly and it feels very homely. We ate breakfast every morning and it was a delecious buffet of fish, meat, breads and cereal. We also ate an evening meal which was delicious, and had a packed lunch which was good value. The rooms were a good size, well equipped and comfortable. We would stay here again and recommend to others. The northern lights wakeup call until 0200 is a nice touch.
A lovely quiet place to relax by the lake. We were there in the early dayd of Dec and the land was white with fresh snow. In a distance is the frozen lake. Every thing serene everything peace.
Bit out of town but easily accessible by bus. Friendly staff and can get a knock on if the northern lights appear (unfortunately we didn't see them!) Would stay here again if in Reykjavík
Staff very helpful food very nice room a bit dated but very clean and comfy
Beautiful family-owned property and super helpful, friendly! Some tour companies like Sterna Travel won't pick you up from this location but can pick you up from another hotel closel like Hótel Heiðmörk. The staff at Hotel Kriunes were really nice and dropped us off at Hótel Heiðmörk for our tour. Breakfast is included and features a variety of items including some hot options like scrambled eggs. Lunch and dinner can be requested and get charged to your room. The view is lovely with a backdrop of mountains and a lake. Really laid back and off the path type place - nothing fancy and that was perfect for us! Couldn't have been happier with our stay. Easy to take a taxi from downtown Reykjavik as well. Taxi ride from downtown Reykjavik costs around 4500 ISK.
Lovely place. Very relaxing. The room is brilliant very clean and with a great view. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A must stay
Good place to relax. We had a room separate from the main hotel, which was ok as we had a bit more privacy. The only downside was that the water smelled like sulphur, (rotten eggs), however that may be common in Iceland. Staff was very helpful and accommodating.
I didn't stay at this hotel but I came here to get picked up by a bus. I unfortunately missed the bus but the man in the lobby here was so helpful that we were able to get it. This experience has really made me rethink how friendly iceland is and how friendliness and helpfulness can make experiences so great.
Amazing hotel, outside Reykjavik but still not so far. Next to a very beautiful lake. Luckily we were able to upgrade for few money more to the room number 7. We had one of the most beautiful view from our room. Cozy and relaxing. Food was cheaper compared to the average but still tasty and yummy. We will come back for sure.
Excellent staff great food very comfortable
The hotel was fantastic and very cozy. We loved the location because of how scenic it was. The family that owned it was very welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious.
They treated us like we were at home. Of our March, 2016 7-day trip to Iceland, this is by far our favorite place we stayed. The villa is located on the shore of a nice lake, peaceful, and easy to get to Reykjavik. The room was very comfortable, the open spaces were welcoming and spacious yet cozy. They serve breakfast and dinner. They have a board that if you would like to be notified when Northern Lights are showing, mark your room and they would wake you to see them. They provided towels and robes to visit the hot tub.
Kriunes is family run (Björn and his family) and very much feels like family from the first time we came in the front door. As they visit with us, we feel even more welcomed and treated like part of the family. Even the other guests were friendly and seemed to pick up the family atmosphere. It was a place that enhanced our total Icelandic vacation experience. When we come back to Iceland, we will definitely look up Kriunes and stay with them again.
Five stars is not enough.
