The Iguana Perdida is a jewel of a hotel ,the setting overlooking San Pedro volcano ,the welcome staff ,excellent food ,simple and safe rooms ,water transportation to Panajachel and other towns around lake and above all these the very reasonable prices ,it is a must to stay at La Iguana ,you will love it !!!
The place is magical, no city around it just the beautiful lake.
Food was delicious. Lots of foreigners so be warned. Wait staff was mostly nice.
Quiet and nice. Could just have better beds. Otherwise perfect
We stayed at a B&B place close by and went to this hostle for dinner and drinks. We reserved the nightly meal with them ahead of time (by 3pm is the requirement). We sat with three other people and enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan. The meal was great and the drinks were cheap. No wifi.
Wonderfully quiet and right off the dock. A great place to stay while you tour the lake!
Lakeside Evening Relaxation.
Friendly, helpful, and talented staff. I would recommend them to anyone.
Food was amazing. There was a live band playing some great music blending well with scenery
This was a great hostel. We had the private cabin which had a private bathroom and comfy beds. The front porch was nice to sit and enjoy a drink and chill. Dinner was family style, which allowed us to meet and talk to other travelers. I would love to go back and stay here.
Great place if you want to get away, only problem is there is no kitchen. Also no wifi, it's nice to unplug and they do have computers available if you need to book your next leg.
Best busget place on the lake with fabulous views and great staff! Dont miss the Sat BBQ
Nice vibe there nice saturday night! Yoga morning. Sauna perfect for relax the body juste a beautiful view !!!
Friendliest place on Lago Atitlan! Stellar staff, clean rooms, and great food. Come for a weekend and stay a month.
Hard to find the words to describe the view, especially when a lightning storm hits the volcanoes and you just sit comfortably on the other side of the lake to watch it
And the breakfasts, amazing.
I've met there great people and had a great stay.
At the time they had a very solid organisation for the evenings of the week.
A terrific blend balanced between modern travelling and laidback hostel on the water. Thanks
Great staff, great facilities and great guests. The Iguana seems to be a focal point for travellers and expats in Santa Cruz and the delicious family style dinners, weekly quiz and open mic nights along with no wi-fi make for great evenings chatting and meeting new people. The Iguana offers a variety of accommodation types, from dorms to family rooms meaning there is a nice mixture of people staying there. Views of the Lake and volcanoes are stunning and this is the only place on the lake that offers diving lessons. We didn't partake, however we did meet their instructor who seemed very knowledgeable and professional. Santa Cruz is a quiet place and it is great to just go there and relax, that being said the other towns on the lake are very easy to get to using the many water taxis, so it is a great base for exploring the whole area. One other thing, for those people who can't stand the thought of not having internet, there is a computer room with 4 or 5 PCs if you need to use them.
Price of Cabaña (not Cabana as they call it) acceptable, but you get what you get in exchange.
Insects of all sorts in the room, including spiders of different sizes and sorts. I got bitten 2 out of the 3 nights I stayed there despite using repellent.
Toilets don't always work (quite common in Guatemala unfortunately).
The place is totally disconnected from the local atmosphere. It's full of Western guests and staff, most of them volunteers. It doesn't feel like you're in Guatemala or even central America but in a random American or English speaking European camping site. What they call "family dinner" is extremely overpriced (Q65). No bread available during the dinner.
Cheaper local better options are available in the town nearby, Santa Cruz.
Staff don't speak Spanish.
Noisy music till about midnight coming from the reception, which serves as a dining/sitting room as well.
Located next to the lancha stop, but totally isolated, as it is not in a village but literally in the middle of nowhere. To access the nearest village, where there is not even an ATM, you must either take a tuc tuc or walk an extremely steep road.
Every time a tuc tuc goes up or down the road, the noise is heard all over.
Payment for reservation must be made upfront, rather than once you're there.
Staff not very friendly, except for a couple of volunteers.
Definitely the worst choice during my 6 month trip around Central and South America.
No hot water in the showers.
No wifi at all. Unbelievable but true. Just a couple of computers.
No 24/7 reception. It opens at 8 til whenever they want at night.
Absolutely not recommended, even if you want to save money.
Better options anywhere else around the lake.
in a quiet pretty little town, great place to disconnect from the internet and. on next with a lot of cool guests and staff over communal dinners - stayed here twice now - favorite place to stay on the lake
One of my favorite hostels in Guatemala. Super friendly and helpful staff, huge family dinner (a little pricey but very tasty and big portions) great dorm rooms and lots of hammocks to hang out. Go for some diving as it's the only place on Lake Atitlan that offers scuba diving.
Amazing hostel for am small budget with beautiful surrounding directly at the lake! They are offering different activities like kayak, diving, bicycle- or boattours!
International hostel with an amazing location over the lake. Showers are cold most of the time. The staff is nice and has a big offer of activities. Dinners are nice and affordable. It's an awesome place to chill out
While traveling and staying at hostel there are certain minimum expectations - however La Iguana Pérdida exceeds in many ways. The social atmosphere created through no WiFi, family dinners, the open mic night are all great additions. Live music provided also makes it easy to forget this is just a hostel but can boasts a pretty cool venue too!
Unbeatable location and very laid back atmosphere. Easy to meet other travelers through the communal dinner. Dive shop on site. Great value
