My husband and I came to The Reserve for our honeymoon and had the best time ever! When we arrived we were assigned our personal assistant/guide Elvis Peralta and he was great. We would have to make reservations at restaurants every night and at times we would be so busy and tipsy on our excursions that we forget, but he would always save the day and book some great restaurants! The all inclusive was THEEE best! We enjoyed some great food, the best cocktails and deserts! Fancy restaurants! And since our gratuity was included we didn’t even need to carry around money. The pools and beach was really nice! Very upscale! And the staff is very friendly and professional. And the place was very safe to my surprise. You will enjoy it here. Give them 4.5/5

I have such mixed feelings. My husband and I had an amazing 5-day stay here for a wedding, and the staff was really responsive and friendly. So friendly that I had a hard time holding them accountable for the bag of jewelry that disappeared from my room I thought it would show up when I packed everything up, but it never did. In looking back, I suspect it was because I complained that the bathtub had not been cleaned well upon arrival (and it hadn't!). I'm also upset that I've emailed and called few different parties at Melia/and the resort and have not received a response. I feel violated and could not come back here, but that is not a reflection on the rest of the staff and resort which was beautiful. If you visit, lock up your items. I will revise or remove this review if there is an update.

We just came back from Punta Cana (April 2018). This is our 3rd times in Punta Cana and we always booked 2 different resorts per trip. This time, we stayed at the Secret Royal resort for 3 nights and the Reserve at Paradisus for 3 nights. This is our second time at the Secret Royal resort and it's still a 5-star. We enjoyed our experience at the Reserve, but here are the reasons to why I give it only 3-star.
1. When staying at the Reserve, you also have access to the Paradisus pools and restaurants, but not the other way around because it costs more to stay at the Reserve. Both properties have beautiful pools and lazy rivers, but sadly they are too deeproughly 4.75 ft deep. My boyfriend is 5'-7" and the water comes to his chin. For anyone who is less than 5'-7", you would not be able to enjoy the pool unless you can really swim. I can swim a little bit, but I need to be able to stand in the pool. They are both kid friendly resorts, but their pools are not ideal. They do have 2 kid pools, but they are tiny. Short adults with no kids would not want to hang out at the kid pools.
2. Food and drinks are not allowed around the pool. I've been to many different resorts and this is the first resort that doesn't allow food and drinks around the pool.
3. We booked the Reserve because of the high rating, but we spent more time at the Paradisus because the Reserve is a 10 mins walk from the beach (or take the shuttle), food selection is limited at the Reserve since less people stay there in comparing to the Paradisus, and they have the same food. We thought since the Reserve costs more, they may have better food, but the Paradisus has lobster, steak, etc. just like the Reserve. The food is really good. The point is we would rather stay at the Paradisus and pay less.
4. The Reserve is a newer property, but walking around the building at night is gloomy/low light level. Not many people around makes it feel a little creepy.
5. May not apply to every room, but the shower in the room that we had did not drain very well due to the improper slope of the floor to drain the water.response / report this review -

My wife and I have been guests of the resort for the last 5 days. We were introduced to Gustavo Rivera as our concierge and since the very first day we have had excellent service. Anything we needed he was able to provide. He is excellent communicator and always responds quickly to our texts. It is a pleasure having Gustavo as our concierge.

This was probably the best place I have ever been to. The staff is so so soooo amazing. You would never have to when on the beach ask for assistance or drinks or any of that, they would always make sure your services were met. If I could give this 6/5, I would for sure do it. Our concierge was wonderful. Everyone, was so friendly, always smiling and saying hello. The cleaning services were so great, the room got cleaned at least 2 times a day and restocked with soda, water and snacks all the time and you were never out. If you needed a extra pillow or blanket, or if you wanted a extra cot (mini bed), they would bring it to you all immediately. Thanks to everyone who made this experience amazing.

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Reserve for the first time in February. We had an excellent time. The overall resort was large, but not huge. You could walk the entire grounds in 20mins, which is about perfect for me.
The food was pretty good, with a bit too much repetition at the buffets and a couple of restaurants were clearly sub-par compared to others. Fuego was excellent, as was the Asian fusion. Fuego actually had one of the best desserts I've ever had, albeit not exactly what was listed on the menu, so I can't promise you'll get the same chocolate cake dessert.
The service was outstanding at this resort and clearly sets it apart from other 4-5 star resorts I've been to. Jose Jones from The Circle was amazing and looked after everything we needed while also understanding days we just wanted to be on the beach and changed our arrangements. This man deserves a raise! He kept us happy, engaged and informed about what was going on in and around the area every day. It felt like he worked all day, every day we were there.
I've never felt obligated to be loyal to a resort brand before, but Paradisus is a chain I'll look up again for future destinations.response / report this review -

Perfect! We went to the Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana for our 20th anniversary. The resort is beautiful. The food was outstanding and the staff was helpful and nice. We especially want to thank our concierge Rosemary for making this a special experience. We would definitely go back. Gracias!

Love Paradisus Punta Cana, the resort is great but it's the people that make the trip special, from the butlers in the reserve to the bartenders at the pool bar. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you are taken care of and having fun. We go every year with friend on our anniversary!

This resort is very large and the rooms at the Reserve themselves are very large and clean. The service was nice and helpful. I would go back to this resort. The resort is very large and has a lot of restaurants, but unfortunately you have to make reservations your first day for all the restaurants which can be a bummer. The food is good though and seasoned well.

We had a wonderful stay at the end of August. Nothing was too crowded, which seems to be the case at other times. Highly recommend paying for Royal Service here, I wouldn't come back without it.

Great place to stay. Rooms are comfy, employees are exceptionally friendly. Easy to navigate. Beaches and pools are good. Ocean is a little wavey. Food can improve. I stayed at Paradisus Palma Real as well before. Though the same company owns both, food is better at Paradisus Palma Real.

Huge rooms, very clean, lots of things to do. Kids club is excellent for those traveling with kids. Beach is somewhat far if you are staying at the Reserve. Awesome resort. It's beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is due to inconsistent room service. (Ordered items missing.) That minor gripe aside, I whole heartedly recommend this place.

I've been living in the DR for almost six months now, and I've received better service and beaches from little Airbnb's and such in the middle of the campo than here. The wait staff, bartenders, and porters were the nicest people without a doubt. The managerial staff though, without any prior contact, had an immediate air of "I hate dealing with English speaking white people". Traveling with family, we stuck to English, and also because most resorts have English as a common tongue. They did "speak it", but as soon as I struck up Spanish, their attitudes, information given, and service immediately changed and improved, which is ridiculous.
The property is very beautiful, no doubt an incredible resort aesthetically and in its practicality of design, but there were small things throughout that should not be found in a resort of this supposed quality and magnitude. Showers were cold by the second or third person. Extensions on the phone for any of the services either didn't work or we're never answered. The "24 hour concierge" was consistently missing from the desk throughout the day. We had 2 dinner reservations made by the main front desk that we found out by the time we got to dinner were actually never made. Upon our arrival, we were not explained our ammenities, given a tour, or told or explained basically any of the logistics of the very large property, and had to find out through Spanish from the much more friendly bartenders.
Obviously this is due to seasonal weather, but the "world class beaches" were absolutely covered in kelp. At a resort anywhere else you would find the beach groomed of this. We were at a much more clean and beautiful beach in the middle of the campo just the day before we arrived here. You'd do better looking for your own non-resort beach anywhere else in the country.

If you're looking for an all inclusive, maybe try another place. If you're just looking for a nice Dominican experience with beautiful beaches, give Punta Cana a skip and try Las Terrenas or Las Galeras areas.response / report this review -
