Absolutely love this resort in Punta Cana. Check in was quick and painless, resort was well maintained and kept clean everyday. Our room was also great and we were given an amazing view. We didn't get to see our view till the following morning because we arrived late the night before but needless to say we were very happy when we woke up to see the view. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food selection was pretty good as well as the a la carte choices. Make sure to book your a la cartes as soon as you can as they book up fast. The beach restaurant was also good and the usual everyday buffet too. There was never a shortage of beach towels and there was always a chair available on the beach. However, once we wanted to transfer to the popular pool area it was hard to find a beach chair. The entertaining staff always had something going on and kept the guest informed on the bulletin board as well. Overall the resort was great!

The facility was the best we have ever stayed in amd the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative part of our stay was the food. The Pizzeria and the Dominican restaurant had a more bland flavor than what I like. The Japanese and Mexican restaurants were much better, but my husband still found his food to not be as tasty as he would have liked. However, the buffet breakfasts were the best!

Amazing place to stay and enjoy the Caribbean island nation. Service is amazing and the people who there are great. They don’t expect you to tip and provide a great service with a smiling face. Exceptional service, period. I would rate it as an average for their cleanliness of the hotel. 5 stars for the food and drinks, unlimited. If you happened to stay at this place, please go with lots of singles to tip them for their exceptional service though they don’t expect you to. Nice large swimming pools, liquor bars serving unlimited drinks everywhere within the facility, right on the shores of a beautiful beach, etc etc.

Great hotel. Yes the rooms arent that updated but it served its purpose. Could use new beds and better plumbing as the toilet only flushed a couple times a day. Drinks were great, food plentiful and always available. Lots of entertainment provided. Check in and check out were smooth. I loved the fact that everything was so close to each other, the walk to the beach, pool, buffet were all within a few minutes walk. Lovely grounds.

LOVED the beach, great activities on resort and good food. Only thing I wished was better insulation in rooms as no matter if AC was on on full blast there was constant humidity in the room. I've been to other places where it's humid but room temperature is able to be controlled. Over all a good place to party.

Resort was ok. Fluent English not spoken by staff. Food mediocre. Many peddlers on the beach. Do not walk alone at night. Would not recommend.

The staff were amazing with everything we asked for. I would definitely recommend Occidental Caribe to everyone. If you want a relaxing and fun trip, this is the place. A lot of different varieties of food to choose from. It was really good.

I stayed at Occidental Caribe in November. While I was there, I was raped by another guest. I brought it to the hotels attention, and they completely disregarded it. I asked to file a report with the police and take legal action. The two women that I spoke with told me that under Dominican law, I was truly not able to take legal action. They said I would actually be the one to be arrested because I had no witnesses, I would also need to stay in the country throughout the entire case and if I left, the case would be dismissed. I also asked to see a doctor, and they told me that they didn’t have one for me to see (which I found out they have one staffed 24/7 that is commonly seen fraternizing at the reception.) They instructed me to take a shower and enjoy the rest of my vacation. The only thing they did was change me rooms. I contacted the American embassy and they told me that I need to go to the police station to file a formal complaint. The police told me that the hotel has an obligation to report a rape to the police and/or embassy, which they failed to do. I was in the middle of filing the report when two members of the hotel barged into the room and completely took over what was happening, calling me a liar and saying that she gave me everything she needed (which she didn’t). The woman was very obnoxious and was shouting and not handling the situation delicately. She lied to me, the police, and the American diplomats. I am so disappointed and disgusted by the way that the hotel handled my sexual assault. I have been trying to get in touch with the hotel ever since I have returned home and they will not respond to any emails I have sent.

This resort is amazing! Very clean, the staff is really nice, especially the guys of the entertainment team, Julio and Alexander, make you feel part of the resort, respect you and they try so hard to make you happy so that you can have a great time there!
The restaurants very nice environments, especially the buffet is located close to the beach, you really enjoy eating breakfast or lunch there, looking at the beach and feeling the breeze!
The swimming pool is super nice too, to music, basically pretty much everything was clean, nice and we really loved it!
The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is that during the time that we were there, they were doing some construction adjustments and our last day there , very early in the morning, the workers stated working with the hammer and they were making a terrible noise, we called the reception, they said that they would send somebody to stop the noise, but the noise never stopped, which is ashamed cause after all those wonderful days there, waking up like that your last day wasn't that good!

Love the food by the pool and the beaches. I think this hotel is the most entertaining, fun bubble bath pool party, music, souvenir shop and lots of food options. The hotel rooms however were not updated and were smelling of mold, but you hardly in your room which is a plus if you want clean go stay at hard rock..better option

Fantastic place for a fun and relaxing vacation. I spent a week at the beginning of October which is low season so understandably there were some maintenance and renovation activities happening. I wasn't disturbed by any of this, never short on food, drinks or entertainment. The check-in process was fast and I got the room I expected. The location of my room was near the lobby so one of the bars and the buffet were conveniently close, steps to the pool and access to the beach. The room was clean and it had the usual amenities like TV (Fox sports), balcony, safe box and a fridge that contained a few soft drinks, water and a couple of beers, all included. I like the arrangement of the hotel being so close to the beach. The elevators were near my room but I always used the stairs. I loved the service at the bars, the staff was quick to acknowledge you and then prepared your drink swiftly and with a smile; I have to recommend you look for Michael, Carlos, Ismael, Guillermo, Maria and chief of staff Luis as they were consistent in providing excellent service. They could gladly prepare pretty much any drink you can imagine. Reservations at the specialty restaurants was not an issue, although you had to go every day to guest services to book dinner. If you are dinning at the Paris themed restaurant wear light comfortable clothes in case some of the ceiling fans are not working, this restaurant is open air. The buffet had plenty of options and even during the busiest time the lines for the fresh grill were not that long, that was my favourite station as it varied from omelette for breakfast, chicken breast for lunch and Dorado fish fillet in the evening. The menu changed every day while maintaining some basics like fruit and bread. The specialty restaurants offered a different experience, while the appetizer was quick to be served the main course could take a bit longer, worth the wait as everything reflected the expected quality. If in a rush you can always go to the buffet or the snacks station by the pool for a late night bite. There are cold water stations in every restaurant and bar, fantastic idea. The pool area was well maintained and there were many chairs. The beach was clean, soft sand and also many chairs available; note that there are big waves in case you are expecting a pool type. There was a band playing during the weekend evening that was really good, in general decent entertainment but I was more attracted by the relaxing time. The checkout process was smooth, no surprises. Oh, using the included Catamaran was fun as well as trying the trapeze.

Overall, my vacation with my family was moderately good. The beach was absolutely breathtaking, the rooms clean and spacious. The drinks were great too, but we had some issues with the staff and food. The staff were poorly run and the service was just below average. In general, they were friendly, but when it came to serving drinks, or food, Non-Spanish Speakers would almost always be served *last*, despite being first in line. The food at the buffet was rather bland but country themed restaurants ( Paris, Italy, Tokyo [Tokio], etc) were delicious.

Still, we had a good time together. It's just not something I'd recommend going back to.

Beautiful place, great food, pool, gorgeous beach and nice rooms. Restaurant service and check in service need some improvement.

The waitress at the Japanese restaurant acted like she didn't want to be there, and was kinda rude to my girlfriend.

At the check in, the man at the front desk gave someone else the same room as us and later that day that person came knocking in our room thinking it what hers. If I hadn't looked the door, she would've come in because her card key was able to open our door.

Great resort for laid back traveler. I'm writing this review while I'm still here, but been here for 5 days so far so it's okay. Grounds a great. Resort is laid out really nice and it's close to pools and beach. All the restaurants are by the lobby so within a short time you figure out where everything is and there is no worrying about finding stuff. The restaurants are good food. Buffets are a mix between okay and pretty good depending. Fairly satisfied with the food and if you're not digging the buffet that day by the pool there is always hamburgers and hotdogs. Which I just might add the hotdogs and their fresh made buns are amazing. The large pool is really nice, never felt crowded, actually never felt crowded anytime I was around the resort. Beach area is good and they have a really nice rows of palms that provide natural shade. Staff is very friendly. Pizza is terrible. Overall great trip and I would stay here again.

We loved our honeymoon here. Great hardworking staff and food options. Beautiful beach and pools. The only things I would recommend would be more consistent room service and towels. Also, for them to streamline the check-in process because we waited quite a while. Otherwise, the room was comfy, the entertainment was better than expected, and the excursions are well done. We would like to return with our family!

    OCCIDENTAL MORE LIKE ACCIDENTAL!
I've never seen such poorly run staff. The staff gives off a vibe that they do not want to be bothered. They are very rude and they just don't look like they want to work. The front desk is an absolute joke. It took my family 45 minutes to check in because there is no order. Everyone just clumps around the front desk with no lines or anything. The room was an absolute laugh. The bed sheets were ripped and dirty as well as the blankets. I'm pretty sure the bed sheets were not changed once and we were there for 7 days. We had to beg the cleaning lady to give us new towels and after giving her a tip she decided we deserved towels and drinks. My family also went 2 days without any water in the room and we had to get water from the bar. The shower was abysmal. There was dirt and cobwebs on the ceiling the door hasn't been cleaned in lord knows how long. The bathroom light was leaking water and we called someone to come fix it and it took them 20 minutes to come and fix the issue. Our room's a/c was also dropping water and the room in general was very humid. The walls were dirty, the pictures on the walls were dirty, the chairs were dirty, and the floors were dirty. The whole place was just a septic tank. The food however was pretty decent but you had to reserve the restaurants you wanted. We did not know this because we were not informed by the people at the front desk about reserving restaurants. The pools were filthy there was cups, sticks, rocks, glass and much more all on the floor. On the website when it says unlimited snacks there was no snack bars with those snacks. they also had a bed on the beach that is part of a whole other resort. This place all and all sucks and does not justify the amount of money you pay to stay at this appalling hotel

Poor service. Rooms were dirty and fixtures broken. Had to request housekeeping twice, still no housekeeping. Waited 2 hrs in lobby for a room after 2hr flight. Waited an hour for beach towels because they ran outthis is a beach resort. The food is good though, and the location is beautiful. They just need to renovate the rooms, hire more staff and buy MORE TOWELS.

We just returned from a wonderful 6 night visit at this hotel and we are glad that we did not listen to the bad reviews. The staff was very friendly and there was more than ample amounts of food choices at every meal. We had plenty of towels all week long and our housekeeper Maria did a fantastic job in cleaning our room and stocking the mini-bar daily.
The Occidental Caribe has the cleanest beach in Punta Cana and the grounds are well kept.
The nightly entertainment was wonderful, you never had to leave the premises and of course there is an ample amount of bars, including the swim-up pool bar!
Even we spoke different languages they made a great effort to communicate with everyone.
I will definitely return and will stay at this hotel again.

If you get the right room this is the best, tip them upon check in, they will help you pick another room if you don't like your first one. Try to avoid rooms above the buffet area, it may be noisy and smelly.
    Also avoid during spring breaks.

If I could give zero stars for the hotel staff and their operations, I would. I'll count the one star for the beautiful scenery, sunshine, hotel appearance, and country overall.

As for the staff here and how they operate - zero stars. Guest services is non-existent..when they say 10-15 minutes, just interpret that as NEVER. They waste your time with commitments to do normal room items in 10-15 minutes such as bringing bottled water (as included with your stay), fix the broken room safes, and bring food you ask for. However, commitments are false here. "We'll take care of it in 10-15 minutes" means "forget it, we'll take care of it when you ask us 5 timesor maybe never "

If you are ok with poor, poor, low quality service, come hereIf you're used to Marriott or even Holiday Inn or even something slightly civilized, book elsewhere.

Loved the beach and nature there is to enjoy, disliked the disregard for proper service here.

On day 1, nobody explained or showed us how the place works. After that, we placed several calls to the front desk before we received our all-inclusive bottled water, then the grand finale: we had our beach towels, Bluetooth speaker, hats, and other belongings confiscated by security after leaving them by the pool for an hour. To put things in perspective, everyone marks their pool chairs by putting their stuff there for hours on endbut at sundown they take your items.

    Feedback to hotel:

Explain how things work and where they are at check in.

Don't make commitments you can't follow through on.

Provide your staff training on basic customer service standards.

The resort looks very good, outdoors. The beach is wide, the are a lot of available sunbeds, and you are free to move them around as you need. What I really appreciated was the shadow between palm trees. There is a swimming pool with a bar in the middle, which is really nice in the evening. The food is good, there are a lot of different options and something new daily. Every day there are a lot of activities, like pool parties, foam parties, dancing courses, they even have their own theater with a nightly show, etc.

BUT, the room was not that well maintained, it had a strong smell of mold (fungus) coming from AC. As long as AC is off, is good, but the cleaning staff turns it back on daily, and closes the windows, so smell comes again. The "american type" toilet does not flush only once in 3-4 tries.
The hotel is all-inclusive, so free drinks all time. But the people who serve them are the same for the whole day, they look tired and frustrated, and there are always long queues.

Nice beach, great garden work, mostly clean. For Dominican Republic food is average, almost like Cubans. All restaurants, bars and room service are terrible, waiting time to get table cleaned or asking for coffee is ridiculous!!! Every day after room been cleaned we never had towels, have to call reception to get towels in the room, good tips didn't make any difference. Even beach towels boy been given attitude to me.
I enjoy beach and facilities but professional and welcoming staff is who makes your vacation.
Will never go back there again.
