The beds and beaches are the only good thing here. We paid for some Cuban friends to come the manager took the money the had them removed from the premises. He is as shady as the palm trees. I was so glad to leave. Best resort's in Cuba are the Playa companies very well organized by professional managers.
Very clean resort. Beds are pretty comfortable. Fantastic vacation for kids. Kids pool wasn't too busy, daily kids club allows parents some time on their own and the nightly shows are very high quality. Kids music or clown show at 8:30pm nightly too.
May have been a five-star Resort when it was new but rooms and amenities need updating. Quite a language barrier as well hard to get a hold of front desk for help from your room.
Food seemed good and layout of resort was good as well. Beach was definitely five star
Caught salmonella poisoning in this place. Rooms were full of cockroaches and beds were far from clean. Varadero is great, the beaches are great, but if you want to enjoy your stay book your room in a different hotel.
Hey, it's Cuba. .what do you expect? Beach and resort are lovely. Food and drinks are good! Relax and enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff!
The grounds and beaches at this resort are beautiful. I loved the main building and restaurant architecture. Very open and bright and clean. The staff was also very friendly for the most part. However the service was mediocre and food was subpar. On my first day I had the worst piña colada of my life at the pool snack bar that unfortunately tasted like vomit. After 7 days at this resort I noticed that the drinks were inconsistent in taste. Also the service was very slow. Sometimes we'd order a drink and it would take an hour to arrive. As a vegetarian I found the buffets didn't have many options. Also a lot of the food didn't have labels and was cold even when they were bringing it out of the kitchen. We were only allowed to make reservations at 2 a la carte restaurants. The French one was good (although the crepe was heavy on the salt) but the Japanese one was terrible. We were rushed and the food didn't taste Japanese at all. Our room was good and had a beautiful brand new bathroom. However I did find 3 cockroaches during our stay. Also the cleaning lady never gave us enough towels. We were always missing hand towels. I'll likely not return to
Melia Peninsula to try something different.
Bad service, too slow,food is horrible, waitress take forever to bring water to my table and was hot without ice,no air conditioning in dining room, rooms are ok but old,beach and snorkeling was the best,if you looking for a place to drink and ok beach,is ok,otherwise don't go to this hotel, staying two days with two kids
This is a 4-star establishment, which is representing itself under 5 stars. This is unfortunate, because if they represent themselves more accurately, then there would be less - even no -disappointments for the guests.
. our room was always very tidy and clean, being under the care of a truly wonderful human being, a maid named Alicia -.
. The whole resort was actually quite clean. No complaints possible, in that regard;
. The drinks were waay too watery Added to the fact that there were numerous bars which were not opened, it's as if they're trying to cut some costs, by reducing the consumption of alcohol
. The food was good, in quantity and in variety; but it was sometimes hard to get it !! There were very long lines at the buffet. Despite the fact that the resort was not full, far from it; at one breakfast, the entrance of the buffet was actually restricted, famished guest having to wait outside, until they are authorized to go in and this was not because there were not enough tables, not at all. There were a lot of empty tables, but they were just not "prepared" we're talking about putting some minimal cutlery, a few cups of coffee and some napkins on them so you had all these empty, unused tables, and people outside waiting to have their first meal of the day and when we finally were allowed to go in, there were again those very long lines we had to put up it. sometimes, that's because they are using their equipment only partially, or, when two staff members were assigned for a task, only one of them was working, and the other was just staying there, doing literally nothing; there was also a chronic shortage of plates ! and when you dared ask for them, you were gratified with a nasty face and an angry hand gesture;
. The service was slow, systematically; and it was not because they were understaffed, no the staff was just not dynamic; they were always looking tired (one would wonder why, considering their lack of productivity ), grumpy, peevish, giving the impression that they don't like their work; perhaps they have legitimate reasons to be so but that's not our fault !
. this general attitude of the staff was not really encouraging guests to be too generous with the tips which, in turn, was making the staff even more antipathetic so, there was a vicious circle, in this regard but it was up to them, to change it not the clients, a lot of whom had probably used their line of credit so that they can offer a vacation to their family then again, in poor countries, the population is firmly convinced that money grows on trees, in the western world
. speaking of which, they are now allowing native Cubans to use this type of resorts, so, there were a lot of them around; that is fine, of course, they are entitled more than us to enjoy their own land, sun and beaches, but there is a problem with this : there is a tendency by the staff to treat their compatriots a bit better than the outsiders; this also could be considered natural, but it becomes a bit annoying, when it is obvious that the locals are certainly not paying the same price to be there, while the gringos, who are thus subsidising the vacation of the locals in the same resort, are the ones being treated as second-class guests
. the beach was nice and clean; the weather was excellent, and the ocean was warm and welcoming;
. the entertainment program was of good quality, but it was not sufficient; the open air theatre was never used, not once, during our entire stay;
. the New Year banquet was fine; no huge fiesta, but there was plenty of food; also more of the bars were opened, and the drinks were less watery, for that one night
despite all the afore-stated comments, we really had a good time; it's just that, we thought that we will be in a 5-star resort, and that was not the case;
if this is a generalized situation, it would be a mistake for Cuba to take its flow of tourists for granted
Not what I was expecting at all! Im usually the one who doubts reviews but for this hotel, it was on point.
We were there between December 25 and January 1. Awful experience except for the excursions (which we paid a whole bunch of money).
1)People working do not understand English - you will ask them something and they will not there heads but they don't understand anything except for Spanish.
2) We had a renovated suite and it still looked like we were from 1950. We had Hot water at least.
3)The hotel was fine but all of there furniture had damages - I have 2 kids - was not safe at all!
4) The bar was okay - but my husband drinks and the second day he stopped drinking because it was awful!
5) Toddler pool was nice - the water was freezing cold but we managed
6) The boat playground was wrecked - They have this piece of paper stating that it is closed. - Our travel booking company should have informed us that there is nothing else to do with a 2.5 year old.
7) Baby pools should be warm! NOT FREEZING COLD . My 7 month old went into the water once.
8) Adult pool was nice (still cold!) - it was right beside a snack area, washroom and bar!
9) The weather wasn't oh so nice but we went to the beach 3 times.
10) Havana Tour , Cayo Blanco Tour, and Jeep Safari were awesome. But we spent an extra $500 (Canadian) for each excursion.
11) Night Entertainment was nice - That was the only entertainment for my kids . FYI NO ENGLISH
12) FOOD IS HORRIBLE
13) SERVICE IS HORRIBLE - They are so nice and sweet but are SO SLOW. Just do your own thing.
14) My New Years was RUINED! I can't even believe that we didnt even count down! I was shocked. I turned to my husband and said ohh are we in 2018? ??!#@%#!%??
15) Bring Diarrhea Pills - everyone had diarrhea
The rooms were aweful! There were so much cockroaches. I will upload some pictures later..! We could inly sleep, if the lights was on (cockroachs were afraid of the lights). We did our complaint at the reception, but their english was so poor or they did not want to talk with us, so we could only stay is those rooms (until the checkout).
It's a 'canadian' hotel! 'National language' is french, so the entertainment stuff did not talk to us (we only speek english) too much, because they couldn't!
BTW, the cubanian stuffs are great, but not so qualified! They earn 10 times less money for they job, than the french entertainment stuff. Disgusting!
At the lobby there were no music, or entertainmentso sadeveryone was boring at night!
The coast is slim, but the water is just like on the pictures;)
If you've already choosed this 1star hotel, you'd better go on havana (or other) tripsdon't stay here too much!
I just want to say thank you to all the people that work in this hotel for all the good momentsthank you
There a week ago.. was the worst travel experience of my 29 yes of marriage. agent said she wasn't aware of construction around the pool, that went around the clock the entire weeks we were therea/c didn't work in the buffet area or in some of the restaurants, the room was in horrible condition.. water/ rot in most of the room, sad part is that its rated a 5 star we're pretty simple travellers and weren't expecting much, but I wouldn't send my worst enemy to a place like this.also beware of suitcase theft at Cuban airport cohibas and cologne stolen from suitcase after it was checked in. What a stressful "vacation "!!
The grounds were picturesque, especially the pool and the beach access. However the dining situation was less than ideal; we ended up eating at the buffet for all of our meals and the food was hit or miss for lunch & dinner. Service in the cafeteria was poor (it took 10+ minutes to get a drink). Get dinner reservation at the restaurants ASAP when you arrive and eat at the cafe near the beach for lunch.
The people in the lobby shop were helpful; they chilled a large water bottle for us for later use.
Don't expect Internet access. It's only available in the lobby and only works about half the time.
Before we left we returned our towels and we're slapped with a $15 fee for not returning a towel we were never given. They said we couldn't leave until we paid up.
The place if falling apart, I don't think they are putting any money into it. They just try to do the bare minimum. The pond beside the main restaurant is a swamp, they put chlorine pucks in it tho try and keep it clean. As well to stop it being a mosquitoe breading ground. They have bridges in the resort which are either broken and unable to use or almost in that condition. Most staff walk around with no smiles and look miserable. They don't have enough supplies eg. Towels, clean sheets, plates, cutlery, glasses. There is a construction site beside it with shipping containers and workers hammering from 9am till 9pm. The beach and wether were fantastic. Read other reviews about this place. There are very few good reviews, I went with a wedding party of 36 people, we were spread out all over the resort. We arrived at 11 and were told our rooms would be ready for 3-4. It was after 7 before they were able to get us all rooms. Other buses came in and they had rooms right away. The reception had know idea what they were doing. They sent different families to the same room. The people at the reception desk would leave and hide in the back because they didn't know what to do. In the end the truth came out and we were told that they didn't have enough clean sheets to clean the bedrooms with. This place claims they are a 5 star resort, it's 2 maybe 2.5. Find a different resort that was built within a couple of years.
Quite nice but food is not like ours
I would rate this hotel 50/50, I say this because there are wonderful experiences and ones that are very meh. Some great staff and some that are pests, trying to get you to buy or book through them. Food is great for Cuba. The wedding I was a part of was terrible organized through the resort staff. This beach has a lot of potential so please take control and demand some privacy for the wedding, and make sure the staff is working for you. Other wise they do the minimum.
The resort is very safe, the beach is wonderful and clean so all round it is a good resort. Just ask for a renovated room.
No Wifi, this hotel is far away from being 5 star.
I expected more from a 5 star hotel and was a little bit disappointed.
HOTEL: Many colional buildings located in a geen area. The green area was well looked but now and than there was a reparation necessary.
ROOM: My room was terribe and need a renovation urgent.The furniture were old and without a nice decoration. Disappointed.
MEALS: They had a huge, varied bufet. Unfortunately the waiting time infort the barbecue station was a little bit too long.
BEACH: Beautiful and clean beach close to the hotel. Enough lounger for every guest.
STAFF: Mostly friendly and helpful
