Second time as this hotel. Best location , room was nice, food isn't the best but there is a lot of restaurants around. Beautiful beach 5 min walk from the hotel, really not an issue! Would go again :)
We stayed at this place 2 Years ago and are going back in October this year. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful. We needed to change our room and the new one had an issue with the mattress. By the time I got back from the front desk the maid was changing it. We found all the staff great! Yes, the place is a little shabby but it is clean, the food is good and plentiful, just not a huge variety. We were in building 4 and I hope we get it again. Every building has a main floor bar, nightly entertainment was fantastic and the location is perfect. Where else can 2 people have 2 weeks, all-inclusive, airfare and transfers for $2500.00? I am looking forward to it.
Best part of our two week booking at this resort was the time waiting for the taxi to take us to our new resort. We upgraded our resort rather than destroy our full holiday. The location is awesome. BUTAfter complaining everyday for a week that my room had no air conditioning or shower curtain (with the shower head suffering from epilepsy) which meant I was sweating again minutes after a shower due to wiping down the water mess as I will not make others clean up unnecessary messes caused by myself. and having to wake up to go for a walk outside to dry the sweat every hour. Nothing was ever done. The food was very repetitive. The same things for all meals day after day. Main pool W/ Bar was closed due to Irma which I do not fault the hotel but I never once saw the only other pool being cleaned. However the grounds are nicely kept The main lobby bar is about the only attraction but be prepared for the other hotel patrons that are there due to the price. A lot of them have no money and are constantly preying on you for smokes or a couple of bucks for tips due to them not getting served because they have not been tipping the bartenders or wait staff for past drinks. My block had an elevator. My friends in block 4 were not so lucky. They were told the elevator had broke during the hurricane. (Found out later it had been broken for almost two years) I have been to Varadaro on previous vacations and I am not about to expect the world but from my previous stays elsewhere I know they can do better. As for the staff/services. I never did befriend staff (What's up with that ?) other than the night time security that felt bad for me that I had to take a walk every hour of the night due to sweating. They kept the drinks coming and I did not encounter any problems (probably because I am a generous tipper) but were never that personable. Keep in mind that I know of no other people complaining of not having air conditioning ! And yes my key card was in the proper spot ! (Confirmed with housekeeping) Our second week at a different resort was awesome and too full of great times with lots of new staff and patrons as friends. Now every day I can hardly wait to get back there. If your expectations are extremely low are are on a tight budget this place may work for you. But my opinion for what it's worth isSpend the extra $150.00-$200.00 bucks for somewhere else. You won't regret it.
We have to thank the front desk Diamarys for her excellent customer service that made our trip from start to end awesome. Very professional and friendly. The room service was amazing and clean . Food was fresh and had lots to choose from. Lobby is big and clean. Would definitely see u soon!!!
Love the location of this resort, right in the heart of downtown Varadero. I've stayed twice in last 3 months. Rooms clean and smell of bleach is noted and welcomed. Comfy bed, excellent air conditioning, water pressure and hot water in building 4000. Food seemed to improve end January 2018 visit and lots of change with quality control. Allegro has taken over resort and upgrading throughout are very visible. I suspect this resort will be earning another star within a year if this positive change keeps up!
Beach and sun was nice but hotel was dirty and food got everybody sick. Recommend to not go to this hotel unless all u want to do is drink and dont care about anything else. Made complaints on man peeing in hallway and did nothing about it. Still feeing sick.
We have just got back Jan 27th after a week at Palma Real the reviews we read scared us to what we were getting into. Other than having to wait from 10am to 4pm for our rooms I have to say the reviews we read were absalute wrong . There was a line up for meals but only maybe a 5 minute wait. Getting a drink was never a problem . Always had fresh towels. Toilet paper was always supplied even in the bars and restaurants. Toilet seats were on every toilet. The food was better than we expected. Seriously people never believe the reviews. I must admit though if we were 21 again it would have been amazing and not just a great holiday .
I stayed at the hotel with my family for 10 days.
Indeed this all inclusive hotel is cheap, we paid 400 € per person for the stay.
For this price there, do not expect something exceptional.
Good points :
- Near the beach
- Cheap
- All inclusive
Negative points :
- the buffet lunch and dinner are similar
- a lot of noise in the corridors at night
- room feel a bit damp
Personally traveling a lot I knew that a star 5 stars in Cuba was worth more than one of them stars in Europe.
Great time food was ok keep your luggage locked up things went missing
DO NOT STAY HERE.THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL IN VARADERO AND ALL CUBA. POOR SERVICE, THE POOL AND BEDROOM ARE DAMAGE ALL BROKEN. THE BATHROOM IS A MESS, THE ONLY GOOD THING HERE IS THE BEACH AND IS BECAUSE IS VARADERODO NOT STAY HERE, YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I STAY FOR 1 NIGHT AND NEXT DAY RUN AWAY TO ANOTHER HOTEL IN FRONT CALLED BARCELO SOLIMARTHIS IS A GREAT HOTEL, I WILL LEAVE A REVIEW AND PICTURE FOR THIS ONE.PLEASEDO NOT STAY HERE
Good hotel if you are okay with loud party people. Room was quiet. This hotel is close to all amenities. Money exchange is just across the street, you don't have to go to the bank. CADECA does money exchange and has the same rate as the bank, we didn't know that at first and took taxi to go to the downtown for bank.
Worst experience ever. Please do not go to this hotel. I was staying one night and is the worst place in the world. Not customer service. Rude people. They put us in a forth floor and elevator wasn't working. Stay in another hotel like Barcelona solimar right in from this one . I do have to many bad things about this hotel but I will resume like do not go here
My boyfriend and I traveled to Palma Real recently and we enjoyed most parts of the resort. The landscape is beautiful- palm trees, perfectly manicured trees and flowers and lots of paths to walk around. The pools were extremely large all of different-ish depths which was nice. However, they were quite dirty. I can imagine how hard it could be to clean them, but it needs to be prioritized more in my opinion.
The staff, except for the swim-up bar bartender, the towel girl and a few of the landscape workers and maids, were not friendly. I chose to tip the friendly people more rather than the rude bartenders and front desk staff. My boyfriend and I had an intruder in our room, hiding in the closet which sent us into an orbit of fear. We asked for a new room but the friend desk staff literally told us we were "wrong" about someone being in there and that they had no extra rooms except for on the first floor. In my opinion, the first floor isn't any safer, but oh well, we stuck with our room
The food, in my opinion, was terrible. They had options and the cooking staff was friendly, but it tasted bad. If you want to eat food that is good stick to the bread, the pasta and the roast chicken.
We were given an ocean-view room which was lovely! The rooms were clean, except for us finding a dirty fake nail behind the curtains. The bathroom and the entire room was large and nice! The air conditioning was a blessing.
The beach was a very short walk from Palma Real and was BEAUTIFUL. There is a bar (free to those staying at Palma Real) and a hut where you can pay a girl a small amount to get massages and beads in your hair.
Just some advice when travelling to Cuba: tip staff that are respectful and give you good service. Don't feel obligated to tip everyone.
All-in-all a good trip, but was unfortunately cut short due to the hurricane.
Just returned after a week at Palma Real. Awesome place with one of the best beach you can wish. Sure, the hotel is a little dated and need some TLC but don't believe all the bad reviews you see online. People are complaining way too much about everything. Try too see the good things when you go on vacation and have an open mind. People there are really trying to make you feel good and they are very friendly. Please stop complaining every 5 minutes and enjoy a nice vacation at this place. Special thanks to Lazaro (the breakfast chef) - he is always smiling and make you feel good and to our room cleaning lady Amarilys - she was very creative decorating our room every day. The food is decent at lunch and dinner (I'm kind of picky) , breakfast is excellent. The cakes are very good.
My first trip to Cuba, arrive late evening, elevator not working so carried our luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Room opened and the strong smell of mold knocked you over. Mold visible on ceiling , air conditioner , curtains. Front desk told us you are stuck with it until tomorrow at 2pm, I am allergic to mold. New room a bit better but beds were like boards and warped. Towels stained and holes . No shower curtain or rod! Hotel is falling apart in hallways, ceilingslots of money coming in this place and no money being put back in it! Loved the staff, food was okay. I will stay elsewhere when I go back to Cuba🌴
First time in Cuba.. The entertaiment crew was amazing loved the pool bar party they interacted awesome with all the guest. I felt very safe the security was always around, the servers in the buffet was so friendly but the food was always cold :( the cooks were awesome breakfast was my favorite! The room cleaners for building 1 weren't the greatest no clean sheets for a week?? Didn't get clean towels 2 different times wasn't overly nice and not friendly. Overall the resort itself was fun lots of friendly people, bars down the road Havana club was epic. I'll be back Cuba and definitely stay there again just need sheets and towels of my own! ❤
Don't have high expectations. Air conditioning only worked for the first day of our stay and then stopped working for the next six.
Food in the buffet is not great, same with the service. Usually the food's cold before someone approaches your table with cutlery. You can reserve a place in one of three restaurants on resort, but the food portions there are rather small.
Our friends toilet didn't flush for the whole stay. Housekeeping does a good job of keeping rooms clean though. For the most part the staff is great, there are a few exceptions.
During the busiest times at the bar you can wait for a long time before getting one or two very small cups to drink. A lot of visitors use thermoses and glasses and get those filled up.
Internet available only in the lobby for a couple pesos per hour, and it doesn't seem to work all the time.
Pools are quite dirty, with empty cups, leaves, and broken off tiles all over the place. That didn't bother me too much though, the water was still clear.
The ocean water was incredibly clean and I enjoyed swimming there very much. If you want a chair on the beach you'll have to wake up very early, there's some visitors reserving seats by 3am.
I started off with paying $700 for 7 days all inclusive and ended up with almost $1000 since I left the resort for better food and entertainment.
I recommend a different place.
No major complaints at all. You get what you pay for. The beds were clean and made daily. The beer was cold and the sun was out. Staff was mostly friendly. Food was decent but nothing crazy. Beach is a quick walk away. Its beautiful and there is a bar down there that serves you. Night life was great in town and again just a quick walk away. If you're not a picky person, you'll have a great week.
Hotel was still a bit run down but not bad. Most staff were nice, others only if you tipped them. Seems to be the "Party" Place of Varadero with fights in the lobby, Police called. Fights on our floor, people banging on doors during the night. You have to pay for your safe in your room, 2 pesos per day, non refundable at the end of your stay. Pay a deposit for beach towels 20 pesos per towel. That is refundable when you turn your towels in at the end of your stay. Internet is sometimes available in the lobby, depending on the weather. You pay 2 pesos per hour for it. You get only ONE bottle of water in your room fridge during the week. NOTHING ELSE! If you want beer, Pop, juice or water you have to buy it and this would be for your fridge. All drinks are free at the bar. Canned/Bottled drinks are available to buy on the resort. No beer at our building's bar and that closed at 10PM. For an "All Inclusive" I found very little was "Included". Beach is across the street. Not a long walk but the beach area is very small for this resort and beach chairs go very fast. Music is SO LOUD on the beach it can get irritating if you just want to relax. Overall, not the experience I expected for my first trip to Cuba!
Absolutely worst place to go in Varadero. The air conditioner didn't work, the fridge didn't work, you had to pay 2 pesos a day to use the safe in your room (which on every other resort is free). Every other resort provides a 1.5 L bottle of water, a can of Cola and a can of Crystal beer in your room daily for free. You do not get that here, AND they charge 2 pesos for a 500 ml bottle of water. Every time we went to supper, the food was cold and tasteless (even when we were one of the first ones in after the kitchened opened). As well, the staff working there did not seem to know how to properly mix a drink. We had only a handful of drinks the whole week because they were not enjoyable. Most of the other resorts also have entertainment at nights (Magic shows, circus shows, international dancing, etc.), this resort didn't have any shows at all! The only good aspect of this resort is that is at the very edge of town so you can see the town and clubs at night. (Highly recommend the Beatles Bar!)
