Nice hotel for Cuban standards,
Staff are really nice and people in general in Cuba are really friendly.
Nice, big swimming pools with pool bars. The entertainment for the kids and grown-ups are good. There is always something to do in the resort.
The food is a bit of a hit and miss, as some selections are not whilst some others are bland. All in all, I would come back here and recommend it to others.
The buffet good was not very good, the best food was in the restaurants where you had to reserve in advance. Lots of alcohol and it was freely distributed. Rooms were ok as long as they were regularly cleaned.
Double check what kind of weather and season you are going in before you book. Our winter is their winter, gets rainy and cloudy there, meaning no beach access. Jellyfish become a problem in that weather.
Nice enough resort. Ring stolen by staff from locked hotel room. Wife and I treated very poorly and unprofessionally by staff whilst reporting it. Huge cockroach, but that's Cuba. Food okay. Most staff nice. Resort is old but well kept. Beach was 15 min walk from our room because the resort is huge. Wouldn't go back due to theft issue.
A nice resort with plenty of activities. Great beach and pools. The resort is immaculately clean although the rooms need a little updating. The food typical of Cuba (somewhat bland) with the usual shortages. The staff all extremely friendly and helpful. Given the lack of resources in Cuba they do well with what they have.
I am not a person to be picky. But when I say this is no where near a 5 star resort it’s not! I paid over $330 a night at this resort for 3 adult. The buffet food was HORRIBLE! There was no activities and the rooms horrible! There are way better resort and better price.
Great place!! My family and I have been to Grand Memories for 3 years In a row, 2 of those times it being RIU before it got changed to Grand Memories. Now the food. The food has changed a lot since 2014, it is actually pretty good. Omelettes are delicious!! Nice staff, Always happy! Been to Cuba 4 times, favourite resort!! Definitely recommend!
My family and I just visited Grand Memories in January 2018. I will never go back to this resort. They chamber maids stole my jacket and my husband's brand new Air Max running Shoes. We made a report and nothing was done about. The rooms are very outdated and dusty. The washroom has those big cockroaches. My daughter and I were afraid to use the washroom my husband had to make sure the washroom was free of insects. There are a lot of mosquitoes also. The beach is great, the water is clear and very beautiful the entertainment staff are good at what they do, very friendly also. (I would actually give the entertainment staff 4 stars) Finding something to eat is a struggle most nights. The restaurants on the site are way better than the buffet especially the international.
Incredible resort! Always something going on. The entertainment group led by Daniel and Chris was phenomenal. Top notch shows that I would pay good money for to see. Resort was very large which meant a lot of walking. There were many different options for dinner and nightly entertainment. Beach was very clean and absolutely beautiful. Wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. Front desk staff, especially David, we're helpful and informative. Buffet was good. Considering what the Cubans have to work with for ingredients, the buffet was amazing! I could always find something that I liked to eat. Upgrading to Diamond club is a definite must, but I don't think the sanctuary is all it's cracked up to be. Depends what you want for your vacation I guess. I will be recommending this resort to any and all and will be returning myself at some point. This is a very very good choice if you are going for your first time and are hesitant about Cuba.
What can I say, it's Cuba. Very friendly staff, average accommodations, but the food was better than I expected. No hot water for the last two days, even after I reported it twice. I visited the spa and had a facial and a massage which was very enjoyable.
Well deserved 4 1/2 star resort
Great stay! Staff super friendly! 👌🏼
Service was good. People there are very very nice. Food was okay I guess wish there was more flavor. Our rooms water kept shutting off, barely any warm water. The best place to eat is the 24/7 snack bar. Very good burgers. ALSO TRUST ME AND GET THE DIAMOND CLUB, it's worth it. The pool bar is nice, and lobby bar is the best. In the morning try their cold coffee. Overall good experience. Love how they clean your room everyday.
Just came back from there. I had an awesome time, met some fellow Canadians, people from abroad, and great staff and locals. Food was good, bar is good, Cafe bar is good. It does get busy there at times, but overall a great experience! Adult only section available and also has a kids fun zone there. Will definitely go back to the same resort again.
Had a fantastic time. One of the best beaches I've seen in my life. Food and room cleanliness require improvement though.
If you're wanting a kick back relax vacation it's a great option. Nothing much locally to do and a minimal amount of sight seeing
The food is so bad! The pool is very good but they should work on the buffet. When we first came we saw insects in our dining room. There is only one buffet and there is a big line you have to wait. So I dont recommend to that resort.
Waited almost 2 hours in a hot steamy lobby for our room. Service want the best. Undercooked meats in the buffet room at the grill station, specially chicken. My daughter had some poorly grilled chicken, only noticed after when I tried some of her food. Not sure how none of us got sick as they don't handle cooked/uncooked meats safely.
Space on the beach is sparse. You literally have to get up at 5 am and walk to the beach with your towels to secure a place for yourself/family.
Late July is definitely not the best time to visit! Too hot and humid. Busy and although we were told that the place wasn't even at 80% capacity they only had half of the buffet room open which made it very crowded and messy.
Totally disliked the experience. Ruined Varadero for me!
The most beautiful hotel I Ever visited
Very kind people
The view is awesome
And the beach just perfect
Beach was the only thing that was great. Staff was not helpful. Guests were not informed when lunch was moved to a different location. Kids show did not happen because there was not enough kids to perform in the show(the info is not provided). Food quality was horrible. Bring your own ketchup, mustard, milk and juices (especially when you have kids with you). Main pool bar water was VERY dirty and smelly.
I like the disposition of the hotel, the beach was great. Staff are friendly and good was ok (I did not have any problem with it) Best seafood I ate.
Although described as a 5-star resort; it must be taken into the context of the location/infrastructure available in Cuba.
Overall the staff were warm and friendly, the facility itself was OK, a little dated and, should you need it, you would need to investigate the accessibility in the rooms. The bathtub we had was a couple of feet from the floor that you would have to jump out and there are no grab bars to assist you or to ensure that you land safely.
The pools are clean, though not heated (it was January when we had gone, so the water was a tad bit chilly).
The beach was fantastic! The white sand and aqua/blue sea is just what you need when you're running away from the Canadian winters.
They had activities and shows every night for all ages! You must do some of the excursions available!
We really enjoyed this resort. Had a great time. Looking to go back in November. We had a nice room, food is good. The staff at the main buffet were great.
Great place. Great entertainment and activities, and the staff is friendly. Food could be better Often served too cold (even a la carte). Showers could be better (also cold).
Stick the the food that's made in front of you: eggs, pasta, grilled meat. When ordering drinks, ask for seven year old rum - otherwise you'll get the bar rail. If you want a little more excitement at the pool, go to the 'party' pool; the pool bar is a great place to meet new people. Tip the bartenders, and they'll take care of you.
