Great happy hour deals and fantastic vibe. FYI we didn't stay here we stayed down the road. Really chill spot, nice drinks too!!
Wonderfully relaxing laid back vibe close to the beach. Two pools, excellent restaurant (albeit slightly pricy). We'll be coming back.
Went there for dinner two nights in a row just because the food was so great. Staff are wonderful and the food is to die for, definetely recommend it to anyone in the area!
The rooms are clean and the owners and tico staff are easy to deal with, but I did not feel safe in this hotel. The owners, for their part, are trying (e.g., security guards, lighting). Our room, the deluxe pool room, was at the end of the property and borders two ugly empty lots; These lots can be used to access the property via the chairs on the other side of the fence. The lock on our sliding door was loose and appeared to have been pried open by a screwdriver before (given the bent track around the lock). The staff tightened the screws on the lock and told us to use the safe, which we did. I feel lucky nothing happened.
The food in the restaurant is really good, but expensive. We preferred to eat nearby for equal quality and more affordability.
Our friend's room was overcharged by $200, which was fixed after an hour of back and forth. I am thankful the issue was resolved, but it was stressful to deal with as we prepared to leave for the airport. Our room was overcharged $40, which we felt was too little to argue over and probably due to conversion fees; the hotel bills in dollars and colones, which makes the receipt confusing.
The main office is shared with a real estate company, which is distracting when interacting with office staff and makes things feel a little cheap. We found the American staff working at the restaurant and the real estate company condescending when asked simple questions.
Most of our group liked the hotel and the stay was pretty straightforward for Costa Rica standards. I can see why people like this area, but I would caution against staying in Playa Grande. To me, the town feels like a retirement home for SoCal burnt out surfer types and lacks an authentic tico feel. I was disturbed by how many Americans seem to work in town as yoga instructors, turtle monitors, hotel and restaurant managers, etc., in addition to the weird subdivision at the end of town.
Very noisy rooms, our room was right under the bar which we could hear constantly the chairs above being moved around. There was an outside light that we could not switch off ourselves and had to ask reception to switch it off. Curtains were very thin and with the light, we had to wear eye masks to sleep.
One oddity was the were only three pillows on our bed, not four, found that strange. Although I'm sure we could have asked for an extra one. They do offer free beach towels which is a plus.
A decent hotel for Costa Rica. In room A/C was nice but a street facing room with non-opaque curtains left us feeling on edge. No in room refrigerator and poor English relative to other places we stayed in Costa Rica. The shower and restroom were nice and included soap, conditioner and body wash.
The restaurant (also above our room and loud) was good but rather high priced. Access to the nearly private beach was just a minute walk down a trail.
We were introduced to Costa Rica and this restaurant by a long time family friend Marco Sanchez (Amigo realty). We vacationed in Playa Grande for a week and enjoyed a breakfast, lunch and dinner at the RipJack restaurant. It is an open air establishment, but with fans that move the air and keep it comfortable. The menus for all meals are written on chalk boards that you pass on the way to your seats. We found many things to enjoy though are favorites were the fish tacos. The cocktails were also very tasty and the service was attentive. We highly recommend RipJack.
Great place to stop by and get a quick lunch. The staff was great and so was the food.
Lovely bar/restaurant. We stopped at RipJack Inn's tree top restaurant for dinner and lunch. I had the Cajun tuna and loved it so much I had to go back a second night for it. The smashed plantains were AMAZING!
Other things to note:
They have a great currency rate if you don't have colones. They also have wifi for guests. Yoga classes are offered in the morning which I might check out later.
I love the intimacy of this place. We got to know several of the people staying here and had fun chatting. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the staff was so friendly. The office staff were GREAT. They were so helpful and nice. They gladly helped book anything and everything and gave great advice on things to do. This place also can't be any closer to the beach! My husband and I had a great time and will definitely be staying here again sometime.
Andy is a cool dude. The ahi salad was very nice with the sesame ginger vinegarette. Very close to the beach.
Just came for dinner and I was very happy to hear the owner has a nut allergy so I was totally at ease knowing I can order anything on the menu with not a worry!
Ordered the Mahi - well worth it and very nice visual display
