This is a great place to visit. I recommend you ride the horses to the falls. You van get a tour the feeds you coming and going. And the guides are very good with small children. We had a 5yr old on her own horse and the guides stayed close and taught her well. We were there in the dry season, and were told the wet season you often cant swim in the falls due to high water flow.

Favorite hike in Costa Rica. Found a sloth trying to get back into a tree on the side of the path and it was amazing standing right next to him (or her). Beautiful jungle, few people, the swim at the falls was perfect. Not hard to climb up to jump off the rocks (rope? who needs a rope?). Wish we had had more time to spend there.

Make sure you get there around 10-11 if you want to jump off the rock! We got there a little later to see the guide taking the rope away, and the climb up is very treacherous without it. It looked like so much fun! We had a great time anyway; after that hike, the cool water was very refreshing.

Best day trip. Super easy to find, just follow the GPS directions and it will end at the little house by the side of the road where you buy tickets to get in. Super easy. We hiked the whole way to the falls, was super hot and beautiful. Took us about an hour and even faster on the way back. The waterfall was super gorgeous. Water was cooler but refreshing, you could see a lot of fish so snorkeling mask may be a good idea. Super happy we went there. Go for it!

The waterfalls were AMAZING. Not giving this five stars for a couple of reasons. The office didn't clarify that we were to park at the bottom of a long dirt road, so we parked at the top and ended up walking over a mile further than we needed to. Also, if you're looking for more of a hiking experience, the trail to the falls is mostly a dirt road and a lot of open area rather than the dense rain forest hiking we were seeking. Seems to be meant more for horseback tours which we did see along the way.

This is a must if you are in the area. It's still not too crowded with tourists. The private ownership seems to keep the traffic down quite a bit. You will sweat if you do the hike. The waterfalls will be a rewarding treat when you reach them. Jump in! You can also jump off of the waterfall in two spots. Highly recommend the horseback riding tour but you will need to book early since they sell out fast.

Quite a walk from the office where you buy your admission (which you have to do), you could either walk from there or go to a parking lot down the road which saves you about 1km but a hell of a hill. It says 12km in total but it’s more like 9,5km. Bring sturdy shoes and not your white sneakers because they will get muddy. The fall is awesome and worth the walk.

This is a beautiful 2 tiered waterfalls and worth seeing! That hike out there is tough muddy and very challenging hot and humid and is not for everyone! I recommend going by horse 2 way $70 or 4x4 pick up truck $10 each way.

If you're with your SO or a few kids that are well behaved do the horseback riding. The tour was well priced and provides breakfast and lunch.

Typically I'd do the hike but the guides were knowledgeable the horses were hoot.

The guides set up a rope to jump off a part of the falls. Don't hesitate it wasn't scary and a ton of fun.

Loved the horses and the trip altogether. Great local food that feels made at home because it is! We saw monkeys, agoutis and my favorite, Macaws! Make sure to see the kitchen, using lumber to cook gives the best taste! Tour actually includes two waterfalls

STUNNING. A must-see. You can get to the falls via hike, horseback, or pickup truck. The pickup truck is easiest and costs an extra $30 a person. Hike is ONLY FOR EXPERTS and is longer than you think. Lots of sites say it's only 2 kilometers but when we got there we found out it's actually 6. When you arrive at the front desk you sign in and pay, then from there you have to actually GET to the waterfall. So these are the 3 ways that is possible. If you go on horseback it might take a lot longer, and you'll probably be with a larger group. Also if you get a guide you can jump off the falls. It's too dangerous to do without ropes and experienced help, but the guides climb up and tie on ropes and scrape algae from the rocks and assist guests with climbing to strategic jump off spots. Depending on how fearless you are you can pick how far you'd like to climb. Water is cold! There are two falls, an upper and a lower, and the upper one is too large and dangerous for swimming but absolutely gorgeous. From below the lower one you can get a glimpse of both in one vista, and it's breathtaking. Also there's a way you can swim underneath the falls and get to a little cove where the water falls in front of you and you're sitting behind it.

All around, one of the very best things to do in Costa Rica.

Take the horse ride tour! Ask at Danyasa for the horse tour. Well worth your money. They feed you two meals. Like grandma is cooking the meals. Family owned. The horses are well taken care of and know exactly where to go. The terrain is rough. You will enjoy the waterfalls more avoiding some exhaustion.

The waterfalls are absolutely beautiful. Due to the amount of rain swimming could only be done in a small portion of the waterfalls.

Entry for a tourist is 4600 CRC.
It's a 6km walk one way to the waterfall. The walk is very tough and in the heat/humidity you need a lot of water and some food for when you arrive.

We walked to the waterfalls, and it tooked us one hour and one hour back. It is a tough hike. Especially the way back. At the end it is steep. But it is worth it. The two waterfalls are really pretty and you can swim there. My advice is to go early (7:00/7:30) because it is not that crowded and not that warm. You avoid the horseback tours too when you're going early.

Absolutely amazing waterfall! It costs 3,000 colones to enter the reserve. It's a bit of a hike, about 3 km each way to the waterfall -- but definitely worth it. Bring sunscreen, walking shoes, water and snacks.

Once you arrive, there are two paths to the upper and lower portion of the waterfalls respectively! Pro tip: Swim into the lower river section of the lower waterfall to check out the entire waterfall view!

It's very easy to get here by the bus to/from San Isidro El General and it is much cheaper than a taxi.

I'd you have a 4x4 definitely drive down to the parking lot. We made the mistake of not doing that and it was unpleasant, to say they least. A bathing suit and snacks are a must.

+nice 4km(2km with car) or 6km hike (one way)
+wonderfull waterfall
+you can jump, pretty high!! :)
+pretty good price for costa rica (around 8,9USD march 2017)
-full of people but not anoying
DONT TAKE tour, you can do it by yourself pretty easy!

It's true, you need water if you're going to traverse the trail on foot. Recommend a hearty meal before you set out to waterfall. Waterfall will cool you down after a long hike. And as noted by others, make sure to hit up the lower waterfall where you can swim and jump off the rocks.

Five mile round trip hike from the lower parking lot up and down steep hills on rough terrain. Very challenging hike in, but worth it for the view of the falls and the ability to cool down, relax, and swim in the water. Opportunities to climb the lower waterfall face and jump off the rocks at the top into the deeper water. The hike out was mostly downhill and didn't seem nearly as bad. Make sure to bring more water than you think you'll need!

We send many of our clients here (we are a 10minute drive away), some come especially for these waterfalls! Beautiful falls with several swimming areas. The hike up is fine for the average person. The trail is more like a road, it does have some steep spots but in general, easy walking. You do need closed shoes (no flip flops!). If you forget to pay at the roadside reception, you can pay the man waiting at the actual entrance. There is a price for locals and foreigners($8). The water can be cold, so best on a hot day ;)
