Excellent location. Close by shopping, dining and transportations. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. The hostel felt safe. Nice clean room and washroom. I enjoyed my stay. Wifi is excellent. The only "negative" no stove. Overall great place to stay in Vancouver. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good value accommodation in Vancouver. Thank you all of staff.

Nice and comfy hostel to stay over night. It's located in Downtown, which is great and makes it easy to visit all kind of places in the city. I will definitely come back and stay here next time when I am in Vancouver again.

I recently took a large group of students to Vancouver and stayed here during the trip. The manager and staff members were easy to work with and everything went smoothly. It is a hostel so the noise level is a little loud at times but no major issues otherwise. Over all a really affordable and centralized place to stay. I will be recommending for future trips.

Good clean place. This is a hostel so keep your expectations accordingly. Location is good, though it seems a bit unsafe at night. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. When on a budget, this is your place. The top floor does get a bit warm in the summer. I would definitely stay here again. The only downside I think is that they have no parking space but otherwise this is a good place to stay.

I did not like this hostel at all. The rooms had inadequate airflow, causing it to be extremely humid to the point of nose bleeds and an extremely sore throat (meanwhile it's only 20C outside, if not cooler). The layout was lacking as well. The 3 bed female dorm gave you about a foot and a half at the entrance, so you're extremely likely to knock your feet/legs/arms off the bunks. The bunkbeds were extremely creaky on both the bottom and the top, so if you're a light sleeper prepare to be woken up multiple times throughout the night. The single bed is also extremely firm. Almost like laying on pavement.
Also about 100m away there's a popular bar that does karoake most nights, or maybe live music.. Anyway it's loud.
There's also no breakfast. Just complimentary tea/coffee in the mornings.
I will say the employees are very friendly, nice and they try to be as helpful as they can. Otherwise this place would be 1 star.response / report this review -

Great location for seeing downtown. Room was clean and tidy, and the historic building is very interesting. But the bed was very firm, the doors thin, and the floor creaky. It would probably be better if I was more interested in local night life, as opposed to sleeping usual hours. The kicker was the live music in the next building over. Loud until quite late. I'd stay here again, but not before I explored other options.

My wife and I visited for the weekend -- Friday and Saturday night. We got in early Friday and the staff was willing to hold our bags while we went out for lunch before the room was ready for checked in. It might be customary, but it was nice to not have to deal with all of that. Our room was in the third floor overlooking Richards street, so it was a bit noisy all day and throughout the night. The bed was firm, pillows weren't great, not a deal breaker for me though. We were out most of the day and exhausted by the time we guy back so the noise and pillows weren't actually a big deal for us. Coffee and tea is provided in the morning. They have showers and WC on all floors, plus microwave, tea kettle, and refrigerator as well. Our room had it's own sink, which was nice. There are several "take a book, leave a book" shelves in case you are in need of some books to read. They also produced a packet with suggested meals at nearby restaurants which was helpful when we needed some lunch. My favorite part was walking around admiring the paintings and old ads for ships, as well as the stained glass transoms. The building has history as a hotel built by a captain in the early days of Vancouver, from what I remember from the placard out front. All in all a decent night's rest with interesting history, amenities, and good location; especially for the price.

This was a nice cheap option for staying in downtown Vancouver. I stayed in a 4-person dorm with three friends. I don't think I would have liked it if I wasn't with friends or in a private room, as there is nowhere to secure belongings in the room. The staff were kind and helpful. I came in after hours but they accommodated that and gave me instructions on how to get in. FYI, this is not like a hostel such as one in Europe; it serves the same function as a hotel. All the material on their website was straightforward so I knew what to expect and not expect. There is a fridge to store things, some dishes, and a microwave on each floor. The beds were reasonably comfortable although they creak a lot every time I changed positions. The bathrooms were fine; they clean them once or twice a day. I appreciated the shower setup, as there were places to hang your things inside the shower and a curtain to keep your stuff from getting wet while you shower. The water didn't drain very well though-- bring shower shoes to protect your feet! The WiFi worked well. Overall, it was a pleasant stay in a great location.

The St Clair traveling hostel is a very clean, friendly place to stay and meet people from all over the world. The staff are totally helpful and friendly. I've done a lot of traveling in my life, and the St Clair is definitely a laid back casual place to kick back for a night or two!😁

Stayed in a 1 bed room. Sink in room is nice. Lack of outlets a real problem.we only had 2 and one ran the fan. They should have power strips installed because two people in a room will have at least two phones plus any cameras and back up batteries they'd like to recharge. No breakfast, but that's not a problem as there are options nearby. Great location!

Bike share depot just outside front door, clean and well managed rooms, walking distance to everything. Attracts a young hip crowd my 96 year old aunt found quaint (not the quietest; bring earplugs, light sleepers). Rooms on 2 floors, solid handrails. This is not a European hostel. Vancouver chic. Towels provided, bring your own facecloths & extras. Good food options steps away. Very happy with the services and staff are excellent.
